ImplyingImplications,

Yeah, that’s why he says it’s stupid. It seems like he’s fine with the idea of removing DRM that makes single player games unplayable but forcing devs to make online multiplayer games playable forever is ridiculous.

ImplyingImplications,

My position is it’s ridiculous. I agree with Thor. Saying all games must exist forever is too vague because I don’t think all games should be forced to exist forever.

ImplyingImplications,

What? I write some code and then delete it and I’m in trouble because I didn’t preserve it?? I really don’t understand this concept at all

ImplyingImplications,

That’s a different statement than you made before. I am also against disabling something someone paid for. But what did you mean by

The code can be stored without needing servers to be kept open

I have to store code? Can’t I delete my own code?

ImplyingImplications,

Some MMOs seem to focus more or story and environment than being challenging. I got into Final Fantasy XIV and it’s also ridiculously easy. People are into it because of the story and characters (ERP).

ImplyingImplications,

Potion seller, I’m going to hug my wife and need your strongest fire resistance potions.

Steam Summer Sale - Top Deals angielski

Initial scrolling of the Steam Summer Sale seems pretty lackluster, but digging through the comments sections in other threads, a few gems have stood out, and it doesn’t appear we have a thread dedicated to this yet, so post what you think are the best deals here!...

ImplyingImplications,

hackmud $19.99 $14.99 (25% off)

If you’re into scripting or hacking you should check this game out. It’s an interesting twist on the Multi-User Dungeon genre. The game presents mostly as a command-line interface where your goal is to seek out targets to pwn for money/points. NPC targets will have vulnerabilities you need to find and exploit in order to expose a hackable part. Once found you engage hackermode where you’ll have a timelimit to break the target’s security (mostly through bruteforce cracking). The game allows you to write short scripts in JavaScript to automate searching for vulnerabilities and cracking security.

Being Multi-User, there are other users online doing what you’re doing and you’re free to chat with them and exchange scripts. You’re also free to write malicious scripts that will steal money/points from others who don’t check scripts before running them!

The part I found cool was that the game mirrors IRL hacking much closer than other hacking games. You’ll often need to submit incorrect data to NPC targets to get an error message that will contain hints about where to go next. Ex. A webpage has “News” and “About Us” sections. You can request a section that doesn’t exist to get an error message that shows all acceptable sections: “News”, “About Us”, or “Employees”. You’ve found a hidden section! Using scripts to send a bunch of mal-formed data at a target and then analyzing which ones generate an exploitable error is part of real-life security testing.

ImplyingImplications,

Only the theme really.

In hacknet, when you try to hack a target you’ll see it has SSH and FTP services running. You run fake programs like SSHcrack.exe and FTPbounce.exe to exploit those services and the you’re in.

In hackmud, when you try to hack a target you’ll see it has an “ez_35” lock and a “c001” lock. The ez_35 lock requires an unlock word, something like “open”, “unlock”, “release” and a digit between 0 and 9. The c001 lock requires a color like “red” “purple” “lime”. You need to enter the right inputs within the time limit to hack the target. You can do it manually, but most targets have too many locks with too many options to manually guess all of them in time. You’ll need to write your own real life script in JavaScript that can detect locks and automatically guess every option for those locks. If you’ve ever done programming challenges then you shouldn’t have too much difficulty writing these scripts. If you’re new to programming it’s not the easiest tutorial. The game provides very little direct help.

Embracer rolls out new AI policy to 'massively enhance game development' | Game Developer (www.gamedeveloper.com) angielski

Article textNewly-restructured Swedish conglomerate, Embracer Group, will leverage AI models to bolster game production. As noted in Embracer’s annual report, the company has adopted a new AI policy package it claims has the capability to “massively enhance” its production process by “increasing resource efficiency,...

ImplyingImplications,

Fun game! Swap “AI” with “blockchain” and put it into a search engine. You win if you can find the same headline from an article a few years ago!

Square Enix says Embracer sales will help it invest in blockchain (2022)

Dev of cancelled Life By You game shares some information, including just two weeks notice of cancellation after being given the thumbs-up a few weeks prior (www.linkedin.com) angielski

I cannot share specific numbers, but I can say that we had an internal metric we were aiming for that had been approved, and that we exceeded that number by a significant portion. We also got a thumbs up a few weeks before launch.

ImplyingImplications,

I got a friend in game dev. They’ve worked for 3 companies over 6 years. None of the titles they have worked on were ever released.

The title they’re currently working on has had its funding cut (by Embracer Group) and the CEO of the studio is desperately trying to find another source of funding. Everyday they go into work expecting to be told the studio is shutting down.

Game dev certainly seems to suck the souls out of creative people who just want to make something fun.

ImplyingImplications,

Gamestop has been a meme stock since covid when it jumped from a few dollars a share to $50 a share. Since 2020 it has fluctuated quite a bit but has overall trended downwards. Now it’s gone from $10 up to $30 each. A fool and his money are soon parted.

ImplyingImplications,

There’s definitely a CEO whose bonus depends on hitting a certain number of PSN accounts. I can only assume account info is being sold because why else would they care? It’s either that or they eventually plan on charging PC players a monthly fee to play all their Sony games.

ImplyingImplications,

They asked the streamers for reviews but gave them an advertising contract by mistake!

ImplyingImplications,

Japanese companies and making your product impossible to purchase. Name a better duo.

ImplyingImplications,

They signed a contract with Sony saying they’d require PSN to play the game. They knew this would be a requirement. It’s not like PSN suddenly isn’t available worldwide. They were fine with the deal until players got upset and now they want out of the deal to save face.

ImplyingImplications,

Lay with dogs, get flees. I don’t pity Arrowhead for signing an anti-consumer contract with an anti-consumer company for money and then realized it hurt their image with consumers. This is the consequences of actions. Maybe their next game will be self published. That was always an option. They didn’t pick that. They picked this.

ImplyingImplications,

Yes, you’re right. Arrowhead aren’t playing good cop. They deeply regret their decision. As they should. They ruined an amazing game by giving control of it over to Sony. I still agree with the OP. Fuck Arrowhead for ruining an awesome game by giving Sony control.

ImplyingImplications,

You know how kids will want anything that has their favourite character on it? Gamers are just like that. Elder Scrolls 6 can have 1 minute ads in between areas and it would still top sales charts because gamers cannot stop themselves.

I really hope the recent pushback Sony got will spark a new norm but I’m very cynical.

ImplyingImplications,

Stop buying games from studios that pull this kind of shit. I get that some industries are run by monopolies and need government regulations since nobody can choose to support the better companies (because there are none), but gaming isn’t one of them. There are hundreds of independent studios that make games as a passion. Stop buying $90 Aways Online, Loot box, Battle Pass, Day 1 DLC, popular IP games with $50 million dollar budgets funded by investors. If people stopped buying these they’d stop being made.

ImplyingImplications, (edited )

Crusader Kings 3? It’s not a shooter, but you can still kill the AI.

Edit: I also read Muslim games

ImplyingImplications,

Whales buy it. For every 1,000 fans upset by this decision there is 1 fan who is rich enough that spending $1,000 on the game is nothing. A lot of these aggressive monetization schemes aren’t meant to make money on the average player.

ImplyingImplications,

There’s been more than enough examples of great IPs being ruined by overly aggressive monetization.

The reason why it still happens, and will continue to happen, is because the games that generate the highest return on investment are the ones with aggressive monetization. Clash of Clans made way more money than Baldur’s Gate 3. Investors and shareholders don’t care about rave reviews and game of the year awards. They want money. I just wish they’d keep it to new IPs instead of ruining a great series.

ImplyingImplications,

Openly mocking the dissatisfaction of fans after a terrible launch was a pretty bold move from the dev team.

ImplyingImplications, (edited )

I got a friend in game dev who was working on one of these games. It was an untitled generic open world survival crafting game.

ImplyingImplications,

A random guy online is upset. This is indeed a shocking revelation.

ImplyingImplications,

Nope. It should look like this:

cross-posted from: iusearchlinux.fyi/post/3806270

Hey guys, so after a long break due to a mix of building a new PC, exams, work, and a bunch of other stuff I am finally going back to try and complete my first ever Dark Souls 1 playthrough. Problem is, I’m a bit lost on what I was doing. I have a checklist in my note app for each boss I’ve killed, so maybe someone could guide me on what I should probably be doing based on that:

  • Asylum demon
  • Bell gargoyles
  • Taurus demon
  • Capra demon
  • Moonlight butterfly

These have all been defeated.

Thanks in advance!

ImplyingImplications,

I mostly watch YouTube streamers. Once in a while they’ll do a Twitch stream and holy shit it’s night and day. 0 ads on YouTube and 30 second and even sometimes 1 minute unskippable ads constantly interrupting the stream on Twitch. I honestly have no idea how people put up with it. I cancelled cable because I didn’t want to watch ads, I’m not going to a site that does the same.

Don’t even try to hide it. I’ve seen /c/unixsocks

ImplyingImplications,

Turns out people wanted a fun game not a real life simulator!

ImplyingImplications,

Most of the planets are dull on purpose because my graphics card catches fire if there’s too much excitement on screen. Thanks for looking out for me, Todd!

ImplyingImplications,

Facebook and TikTok are salivating at a chance to become the next Twitter. Both have rushed out Twitter like updates since Musk has been making terrible changes.

ImplyingImplications,

Pretty much what the publisher’s response was lol
