GunnarRunnar,

And funnily enough Starfield being Xbox/PC exclusive is an example why their hoarding is bad for gaming, and why the Activision deal shouldn't pass.

GunnarRunnar,

So I don't remember where but I'd heard about Microsoft wanting to buy Nintendo long time ago. The suits are always spitballing.

GunnarRunnar, (edited )

Why do people behave as if Starfield was the first game not released on PlayStation?

Who is doing that? It's just blatantly obvious that it would've been released on PlayStation without Microsoft meddling and their games sell a shitload, I mean Skyrim has been chugging along over a decade now. So I'm not really sure how Starfield is irrelevant to Ms buying shit conversation.

It's not what being an exclusive means (let not get into linguistics here, I mean strictly the gaming industry term). I agree this specific case was anticompetitive but framing it as an exclusive just weakens this point in my opinion and allows to shift the debate away from it.

Away from what? Everyone knows what it means -- or maybe I don't, please enlighten me in that case.

GunnarRunnar, (edited )

It's more like a default platform seeing as even former PlayStation exclusives are slowly getting a PC release as well. And I did call Starfield Xbox/PC exclusive, not just Xbox.

It's probably not the word to describe what's getting released where and stems from marketing but it's commonly used in gaming so most understand its meaning.

GunnarRunnar,

Microsoft is a good underdog because they have infinite money. And a really bad market leader, I bet worse than Sony. It would've been way better for the industry to not let them acquire the big boys they have.

GunnarRunnar,

They hired the right dude for that job.

GunnarRunnar,

It was kinda ambiguous how deep they were going to stick it up the devs' ass.

GunnarRunnar,

More likely is that Cyberpunk was that big of game that neither platform wasn't willing to risk losing sales for not being out day 1.

GunnarRunnar,

Whose money is it laundering?

GunnarRunnar,

What's there to play and what's still coming?

GunnarRunnar,

Not really an advocate for piracy but I wouldn't have any qualms about recommending that route to you.

GunnarRunnar,

That game seems pretty loved, I wouldn't be that surprised about a remaster. Though it would have to be a pretty barebones if it can't compete with a ten year old release.

GunnarRunnar,

That's the story of almost all EA studios. Respawn afaik has kept their senior staff but also have expanded too much for me to believe there's a "Respawn identity" anymore.

What's funny that happened with Bioware and Criterion, too.

GunnarRunnar, (edited )

I'm not s fan but if you really think it's the worst game on Steam woof...

GunnarRunnar,

People are voicing their opinions, what's the big deal? We should all agree with these gamer tantrums?

GunnarRunnar,

Yeah these review bombings are ridiculous, so what? Am I not free to express my opinion? And I'm not quite sure how anyone's not allowed to have their opinion, if it's dumb then you can call it dumb.

GunnarRunnar,

For sure, agreed. Major downgrade and when I tried it at launch it still had the same queue problems OW1 had so not like they even fixed anything for a casual player.

But I'm pretty sure we both know Overwatch 2 isn't the worst game available. (I'm not going to go out of my way defend OW2 to anyone, it's not worth it.)

GunnarRunnar,

Because they took OW1, changed very little, made it a lot more microtransactiony, didn't release a promised co-op mode that basically was the reasoning to release OW2. I'm sure there's more but that's about it.

GunnarRunnar,

Did I say that somewhere?

And calling review bombers reviewers, like they offer legitimate unique criticism is kinda funny too.

GunnarRunnar,

It makes more sense to think about it like that.

GunnarRunnar,

I don't personally mind 300 hour games but the way AC and most other games present them is exhausting. I don't want my map full of shit to do. I want to get the core experience, which should be the main story and after that sprinkle of stuff to do here and there which is all optional and there if enjoyed the world enough to keep going.

Why Ubi and others haven't figured this out, I have no idea. It's the best of both worlds.

GunnarRunnar,

I guess a chill IP owner that would like some good will pr would strike a deal with the developer... Unfortunate that it's Disney.

GunnarRunnar,

If we've seen anything, it's that companies always need more money. But this probably doesn't move the needle enough to make it at all worth it. Or it fucks with their marketing plan simply, they seem to be pretty keen on following the plan charts set for them.

Someone with more gung-ho attitude might jump at the chance though. even if it wouldn't really make a measurable impact for them either.
