I was going to immediately mention Hollow Knight but I see someone already did. Second thought: Tunic. It’s been a long time since a game hit me as hard as those two.
For pure fun addictive gaming: Factorio is absolutely nuts. 2D survival craft platforming action: Terraria is still king.
For space empire building check out X4: Foundations, after almost 10 years under development it’s absolutely amazing (but a huge timesink haha)
Oh and if you’re into semi-hard-scifi basebuilding you could give Stationeers a look. Sunk quite some hours into that one.
Action-RPG colossus Elden Ring is reportedly getting a free-to-play mobile adaptation with in-app purchases, which takes inspiration from miHoYo’s Genshin Impact. It’s being published by Tencent, who apparently acquired the licensing rights to Elden Ring back in 2022 and put a few dozen people to work on a prototype, even as...
The most elaborate space sim ever made is getting another expansion/update, most likely early in the new year. Full announcement on Youtube tomorrow Dec 20th at 16:00 CET.
After the Starfield debacle I can’t say I’m super interested to play the game anyway. 10+ years and they only slightly improved the basic engine. It feels like a game made in 2010 with slightly more decent graphics. So yeah no high hopes for ES6 when it comes out.
This should be illegal, companies should be forced to open-source games (or at least provide the code to people who bought it) if they decide to discontinue it, so people can preserve it on their own....
Considering how much stuff people dump on there that probably doesn’t even deserve to be released it’s not super surprising right? I’m more surprised that 8.9% of games, that’s almost 1 in 10, made over $200k.
Also clearly visual novels are not the way to go if you want to make a lot of money
This is it. Forget all the tracked on nonsense. The base building, the character management, production chains all that nonsense…
If you focus on the combat/looter aspect of the game, that part is actually pretty good. A world apart from the janky combat of Fallout, it actually feels pretty visceral.

I kind of enjoyed fallout but it did feel very shallow for an RPG. I’m hoping this one does a bit better in that regard but I’m trying to temper my expectations.
Not super excited by the skills. A lot of “you get x% more bla” or “you can carry X more weight” Was hoping to see a lot more tech/engineering/etc skills. But will wait for the thing to come out before judging too harshly.
