Lots of Skyrim!
Also this game for Playdate called Spilled Mushrooms, I’d been waiting for it to come out a while. It’s a nice blend of simple card game and puzzle, each round only takes a few minutes. The goal is to pick animals to help collect your mushrooms from different areas, animals have different abilities and each biome can have modifiers. It’s pretty much endlessly replayable and very satisfying once you get into a groove! I’m glad it’s not on more platforms because I’d lose so much more time to it

I need to get UFO 50! It looks like so much fun

GammaGames,

I should replay Titanfall 2, that story is so much fun

GammaGames, (edited )

I decided I wanted to replay Skyrim so I went and downloaded a few mod packs from Wabbajack and played through the intro to Bleakfalls Barrow on each.

Nordic Souls is a 200GB pack that makes the game feel modern and look great! My poor 1060 struggled in some places but the world is gorgeous and the interface is much better. It has the quick loot feature from Fallout 4 and overall feels like a great pack if you want to replay Skyrim but want something that feels new. Also it comes with like 1000 hair styles.
I did have a frustrating bug that made my crosshair disappear while trying to be a stealth archer, and the map was a 2D paper map which didn’t have enough detail for my liking. The list is like 1300 mods so didn’t where to look to fix those things.

Then I tried out Legends of the Frost, which is closer to 40GB total and is a more tame pack that mostly fixes bugs and enhances the vanilla world. I added the quick loot mod and this is what I’ll be playing on, the performance is much smoother on my graphics card and I don’t really feel the need for all the extra content. The world is still a lot prettier!

Nordic Souls is absolutely worth it if you’ve got the space though. There were more enemies wandering around Bleakfalls Barrow which made it a little harder, the refreshed map made it feel fresh to explore (I was surprised at some of the differences in world props!), and it has a ton of new content in the form of quests, companions, locations, spells, weapons, armor, etc. And I definitely recommend wabbajack, it makes these crazy mod lists a 1-click install (as long as you have the prerequisites)

GammaGames,

That’s what I was trying to avoid! Nordic Souls adds so much littered around that it was a nice surprise and mostly something I’d play.

Does ESO have controller support? I’ve heard good things about it forever, just never played further than the (quite good) beta.

I immediately wanted a Playdate when I saw it. It’s a little yellow handheld with a crank designed by Teenage Engineering and made by Panic, who’s also published Firewatch, Untitled Goose Game, and a bunch more games recently.

I’ve had it for a year and still use it daily, the screen works great most places I’m waiting in line and I have a book light for the evenings.

One thing I really like about it is that it’s not an emulation device. It comes with 24 games +2 free on the Catalog and the community has made a ton (over 1000 on itch!). They’re mostly bespoke little titles that aren’t available anywhere else. The Lua and C SDKs are easy to use and encourage homebrew, I’ve got a pomodoro timer launching in the on-device storefront next week and am currently working on a little suika-like. Definitely recommend if you’ve got the spare cash!

Plus it’s got a pizza case! I love it so

GammaGames,

I can see why, unfortunately it’s a little over $100 just to make the device so I can’t see it going down much. We can’t really get economies of scale for such a niche product

Sometimes you can get a good deal used!

GammaGames,

I haven’t thought about my leapfrog in years! Was a fun little thing.

The Piboy looks great! I’ll have to put it on a list of gift ideas for my partner

GammaGames,

Dang, maybe I’ll go for the Analogue Pocket instead. Thanks for the tip!

GammaGames,

I do recommend it! The season (delivered over 12 weeks) is sometimes hit or miss, but that’s mostly because there’s something for everyone. And being so dev friendly is a huge bonus if you’re into that

GammaGames,

Someday! 🙏

GammaGames,

Now those are fancy! I really like the joystick support.

Related, do you have any recs for an SP-style emulation handheld? I love the clamshell for tossing in my backpack
Edit: 👀 anbernic.com/products/rg35xxsp

GammaGames,

I didn’t know about this game until today when an interview with the dev popped up on my podcast subscription feed, it looks good! I might have to go in blind

GammaGames,

LOL for context, it was the fastest way to grind xp: x.com/realradec/status/1831041419756388429

GammaGames,

The specific mode yeah, you’d get some xp for kills but as far as anyone knew ending the round ASAP was the most xp/min you could earn. They wanted to get the platinum trophy before the servers shut down

GammaGames,

Golden Sun is still one of my favorite RPGs!

did you hear that Dr Disrespect tried to make a comeback the other day with a Deadlock stream? (beehaw.org) angielski

[alt text: several screenshots of posts on twitter. The bottom post is a tweet from @DrDisrespect on twitter, which says, “LIVE in 30 minutes. I just installed Deadlock… what the hell is this game? If it’s from Valve, I must know. I must… understand the future of multiplayer gaming.” This Dr Disrespect tweet is a...

GammaGames,

Crazy behavior, the guy could play anonymously but he’s clearly not in it for the fun of the game.

GammaGames,

What games have ya been playing?

GammaGames,

Correct, most of the similar communities linked in this thread are defederated

GammaGames,

So it turns out Sea of Thieves is super fun when you join lobbies? I got bullied in solo for like 5 hours before trying it out 😆 Yesterday I adventured with a mute that only used preset text messages for two hours, I can finally buy a hat!

GammaGames,

So is this an expansion of the tech demo or a new thing? I don’t follow ps news but those reviews have me looking! Curious how this will sell

GammaGames,

Thanks, and no worries! Looks pretty good

GammaGames,

It fully released August 23rd. Beta started in July

While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be issued back to your original payment method.

Customers who purchased from other digital storefronts will also be refunded.

GammaGames,

I heard the project had been in production for 10 years and in development for 8

GammaGames,

It missed several boats and came out with a sticker price when most of the other games in the same market are free to play

It also released 2 weeks ago, so I can see why they’d be disappointed! It’s apparently a decently fun game and getting support pulled so quickly would be sad

GammaGames, (edited )

I was trying to describe it to my partner and went with “the game purple monkey, the girl with the gun, and a rainbow”

I’d accidentally combined two characters from the cover art

GammaGames,

I also request lightsaber pictures!

GammaGames,

Pretty much. They said they were done with RoR (the sequel was already ambitious, they don’t want to be stuck with the series forever) and the payout for the IP was probably worth it to keep the studio financially flexible. Joining Valve is a no-brainer imo

GammaGames,

It’s definitely unusual, at least for a studio with this kind of success. Typically devs like to keep their IP! With how poorly the new dlc is going it does seem like they came out on top

Need tips, when is a non-campaign game considered 'completed'? angielski

I like to keep track of my games that I have completed, with most of the games it is pretty easy. When the credits roll, I consider them beat, there are a few exceptions of course like Nier, Resident Evil 2 etc. What I struggle with are fighting, racing games and 4x games. I enjoy these genres, but I don’t know what is...

GammaGames,

Whenever you’ve had your fill. Whether it’s 5 minutes for 500 hours, there’s no sense wasting your time playing something you don’t enjoy. I’ve played Pavlov for over 300 hours and am still going back every week. There’s no longterm goals and that’s perfectly fine, if I ever get bored with it I’ll uninstall and move on.

GammaGames,

Got it! One thing you could do is see if the game has any time trial/challenge mode, or if there are any community challenges (like nuzlocke for Pokemon).

GammaGames,

I need to play this, but I’m afraid how my free time will fare

GammaGames, (edited )

I played this on the wii, was fun and I liked the creativity with building furniture! I was also a child so temper your expectations

SteamOS could see a general distribution release, work with other handheld gaming PCs soon (www.techspot.com) angielski

One of the Steam Deck’s primary advantages over more powerful handheld gaming PCs is its operating system, which is designed to mimic a game console interface within a Linux PC environment. Valve has long planned to bring the OS to other devices, but a recent Steam Deck software update includes the first mention of a rival...

GammaGames,

Loved that thing, I could play party games from downstairs with our 5ghz network. Made college weekends so much fun!

GammaGames,

Current gen released in 2020

Plus it was hard to get a ps5 for a few years

GammaGames,

Wasn’t it the most played game on the steam deck for a while?

GammaGames,

Towerfall was one of our favorites in college, so much fun if you can get a full game! Fuck brambles 😤

GammaGames,

I played a bit of a closed beta I’m not really allowed to discuss in detail, but I had a blast! Looking forward to the full release.

Also got part way through episode 2 of Walking Dead, I forgot so much of this story. Handing out 4 pieces of food to 10 people (well, 2 to 8 since the kids were guaranteed) isn’t easy 🥲

And story time: My partner and I were down 146 to 149 in Destiny 2 crucible. We were separated and each crouching with glaives so they wouldn’t see us on radar.
I waited around a corner and filled someone with stab holes while she simultaneously killed some guardian with a sword (which kill in one swipe), since we were holding 2 zones it gave us the 4 points to steal the win! Glaives are so much fun in pvp

Camping sounds fun, I’m jealous!

GammaGames,

I didn’t know they redid Ethan Carter! The original release used photogrammetry and was GORGEOUS, was one of my favorite walking sims

GammaGames,

I’ll have to check it out, thanks!

GammaGames, (edited )

Let’s compare circulation numbers:

I’d say they led by a few copies (edit: for the mid-2000s!)

GammaGames,

I read the digital edition in high school, the covers were a lot more fun in print!

GammaGames,

Fair point! Looks like Nintendo Power had well over a million throughout the 90s and Game Pro sat around half a million. GI didn’t start until 1991 so it would’ve been significantly lower, but it started getting pushed harder by 2000.

We’ve probably done more research in this thread than the person writing the article lol

GammaGames,

People are losing their jobs

GammaGames,

(According to my hastily-done internet digging)

It was mostly distributed by FuncoLand, and only really started to pick up when they included it in their Fan Club subscription. B&N bought them in 2000 and pushed it hard while expanding stores, eventually they got big enough that they could get exclusive reveals.

So it’s a case of pretty much always being bundled in with another service!
