Mad Max for me. Story and stealth is better in DG, but the driving, vehicle combat and hand-to-hand combat is sooo much better in MM.
The car is basically a second character you upgrade throughout the game.
DG for me was too … Last of us-esque, without the memorable characters. Just an ok cover shooter with lots of stealth plus a vehicle, which was not very fun to drive or care about.
The combat is basically AC/Arkham/Shadow of Mordor, but holy shit do the animations make it satisfying. There's this gritty desperate quality to it I haven't seen anywhere else.
My recommendations are Dodonpachi Resurrection, Mushihimesama, and Deathsmiles. They’re all on sale, they’re all made by CAVE. One more CAVE game, Akai Katana, is also listed but it’s not on sale. They are all extremely difficult if you have never played the style of game before (Japanese arcade bullet hell / scrolling shooter). Heavy emphasis on learning bullet patterns and doing precise dodges. It feels so good when you manage to dodge a pattern, or time a screen cancel/hyper just right.
If you only try one, Mushihimesama is 6 dollars right now, has an awesome soundtrack and a cool fantasy forest and insect theme. It’s relatively beginner friendly but you will definitely notice a sharp difficulty spike going from stage 3-4-5. I got to play it on an actual cabinet at PAX west, definitely my highlight of that weekend.
There’s a lot more to the genre, and the isometric shooters you’re talking about are technically not shmups, rather they’re twin stick shooters. A true Shmup is the bullet hells you mentioned, but bler hell is actually a subgenre, there are many types of shmups that control the same way a bullet hell does, but minus the hell of bullets. Check out Shmup Junkie on YouTube and join his discord to learn more than you ever imagined about this amazing genre!
Synthetik isn’t actually a Shmup, if you’re looking for games like it you want to look into twinstick shooters. A Shmup is an automatically scrolling shooter with where you are traveling in a single primary direction. A true Shmup gives you freedom to move all around the screen but the screen scrolls through the level at a fixed rate. Famous shmups include Gradius, R-Type, Raiden. There are a few different subgenres but the main offshoot you’ll see is Bullet Hell.
A great place to start is the Touhou games, and fan games (My favourite is Blue Devil in the Belveder). My all time favourite Shmup is Teslapunk, but it’s pretty obscure and not exactly popular.
If you want to learn more look up Shmup Junkie on YouTube and join his discord. Lots of great guys and a curated list of beginner games/goals for someone who’s interested in the genre. Trust me there is a Shmup for every taste out there. Try lots to see what clicks for you!
Is there any ethical AI, all they do is take data people posted online and then profit off it. With the original creators not getting a say if their data gets used or any profits derived from it.
Though Getty did introduce their new AI today that was only trained on images they own the copyright to. Arguably, still not ethical, but at least it's things they own the data for.
I didn't dig too much into it, but my guess would be no.
Even if you could verify, it's still an ethical grey area as it's taking works they paid photographers to generate new works potentially without crediting the original photographers? Their own website tells people they have to credit the original photographer, and I'd be surprised if the AI lists all the works it used to create it.
We did this in a previous org. Basically, we had a bunch of user-generated data, users would then classify a sample of that data, and then we’d train our model on those classifications.
I don’t see how it would work in game dev though, unless they’re using AI to customize an NPC’s behavior based on the player’s actions (i.e. teaching an enemy to block player attacks). Generating models and whatnot would just have too small of a data set to work with.
I’m confused at how the Blood of Lathander wouldn’t be found on launch, there are so many triggers for it.
Reading the locked books, talking to the dead Tiefling, reading the plaque on the statue that’s dead center in the building. It’s hard to avoid honestly.
Played female v when I first ran through the game, any reason against playing male v if I’m restarting? I’ve always heard female v was better but idk why. Only difference I know of is you can’t romance Judy.
Apart from who you can romance it’s only down to preference. Many people say Fem V is the better voice actor, but having experienced both I would say they shine in different moments. I probably like Masc V better as Streetkid/Nomad and Fem V better as Corpo. Also, for some of the most charged moments during the ending(s) I liked Masc V’s delivery better.
I’d say to Masc V this time to see the differences.
Same here, corpo Valerie and nomad Vincent seem like the best match. Even in terms of romances, if you can stand going through Panam's lol.
They definitely give off different vibes so I'd say it's worth experiencing both for sure.
I really hope they patch some of the bugs then because otherwise it's gonna be unplayable. I have to use the remove glitch mod since my save got bugged after the glitch effect got stuck permanently on my character after a convo with Johnny.
