CaptainBasculin, do gaming w Splitgate 2 Director Refuses to Apologize for ‘Make FPS Great Again Hat’, Then Apologizes Anyway - IGN

Nah fuck the political implications, the message is %100 correct. The current FPS games don’t give the same enjoyment as I used to get from the old MW3/CS:Source era, and I really enjoyed Splitgate 2 and truly think it can change up a lot of things in the FPS space.

bogpunk,

There are a million other ways to express that sentiment.

chloyster,

I mean yeah but really no. The political implications are too big to ignore here. Especially given the event being in LA with all the shit going on. Also like as a particularly targeted person in this fascist administration, it really doesn’t feel great for people to use fascist iconography to make a stupid joke!

Also like splitgate 2? Really? The game that during this announcement announced a battle royale mode? The most tired shooter mode since hero shooters? And the one that had $145 microtransactions on launch? This is the savior of fps gaming?

Nah

Lumbardo,

Are you able to leave your house? People are going to wear shit and make jokes. There is no use getting hung up on things that are well out of your control.

Vodulas,

Shit take. There is a difference between seeing something out on the street and choosing not to support a developer because of their shitty behavior

chloyster,

And I am also free to think the joke is in bad taste and to refuse support for a game that makes jokes that make light of the shit situation I’m in :)

FlihpFlorp,

So this is a little off topic but is SG2 any good?

I was in love with splitgate 1 at launch then stopped kinda played off and on during the last season and put down the game after they announced they’d stopped. I played some of the closed betas and stuff just felt off, 1 felt like maps were designed with portals in mind offering sight lines and some risky areas if you were gonna shoot thru portals, but 2 felt like they made a pretty cross between a hero/ability plus arena shooter then slapped portals on it, and it just didn’t feel like splitgate to me.

Luffy879,

Its not very good

I mean, abilities? OK, why not.

Different classes? Well, ok I guess?

But like, I can’t get into a match where anyone is using portals. In the only arena from SG 1 you can actually See some intent in being Portal oriented, but in all New areas they just dont make sense to usw. The Objectives are placed completely Outside of any Portal areas, and even where they are placed its just like „If you run to the other side of the Map and back, you can flank some random angle no one will ever use

And why make every classes weapon different?

Also, power weapons are just not worth picking up, every 2. Player is a bot, and the game itself feels pretty soulless with this corporate arena vibe that the finals have done better already.

FlihpFlorp,

Yeah you’ve just summed up what I’ve been struggling to put into words it just feels off

Ngl if it wasn’t splitgate and remove the portals I think it could have been a good f2p shooter that’s a little bit of arena.

I was never good at portaling in 1 but it was fun, during the closed betas it felt like a way to shave off a couple seconds running instead of using it to flank or get wierd angles

Also yeah it felt very… sterile idk… like it was made for esports both in lore (which isn’t bad) and irl

Luffy879,

If you didn’t have the portals, you could just play halo, which I’m doing now

About 1, it was always really fun having 2 ends of the maps as bases and just trying to hold it while trying to portal to the other. At least that’s what I remember. The weapons were also fun (which I can’t say about every weapon except from the fortitude class, since 1 aero’s feels like a paint gun damage wise and the energy gun is an SMG, if someone took it and just completely ruined it for CQC by making the projectiles have the travel time of a sniper firing at 1km.), and the gameplay itself was way less ability centred.

Also, making the lore of a game „Its esports” is just so generic. Sure, turn it into a Gulag people are thrown into by the rich. Turn one company into the bad guy if you want. But not this shit

FlihpFlorp,

Oh yeah the base felt really true on that one arena trying to hold your vertical area.

In Atlantis or the underwater map it felt like a “base” slowly rotated around the map for a really fun dynamic as well as that one industrial and lava maps

But yeah my original point was it feels like serveral good ideas (minus the lack of portals) mashed together in one hodge podge

Kolanaki,

Isn’t Splitgate 2 going to be a BR? Or is that just an optional mode? Because I don’t see diving straight into the dumpster that is Battle Royale as making FPS great again, even without the political undertones.

CaptainBasculin,

It’s an optional mode for those who like it, I found their team fight modes more fun.

drspod,

It’s an optional mode for those who like it

They probably said that when they added BR to Fortnite too.

PrinzKasper,
@PrinzKasper@feddit.org avatar

The main mode is a 4v4 arena shooter, the BR mode is new

FeelzGoodMan420,

Cs source was an abomination though. The hitboxes were insanely large. Cs 1.5 and 1.6 were the best ones. Cago/cs2 are good too.

CaptainBasculin,

idk but for me none of the CS games feel as smooth to play as CS:Source.

FeelzGoodMan420,

Even csgo/cs2? Because they’re way smoother than source. Animations are way less jerky and more fluid.

Vodulas,

The political implications were the point though. Or do you think he had no idea what he was doing? The “We didn’t know it would be taken as a political statement” BS is just damage control

I wonder how it will differ from just being Hitman in a tuxedo? Will it follow the games of years gone by and feature driving sections? 😁

Squizzy,

Gadgets man, I am picturing zipwire scene, paragliding, hopefully non quick time event action. The gadgets in Hitman were great for their role but there is a fantastical element to be pushed for 007

I had Nightfire, I think it was called, for my GameCube. My favourite level was driving the Aston Martin Vanquish through the small towns in the Alps.

sp3ctr4l, (edited )

Nightfire was ludicrous.

As a kid, my neighbors and I would give everyone the Q claw, which is functionally a near infinite range, attaches to almost any surface, grapple hook.

If you hold the button, you can remain suspended/attached… basically where ever.

So, we would go with … i forget the name, but some twiglight setting, older european town style map…

… and we would just all be zipping around like goddamn spiderman, because you can move so much faster with the q claw than by running…

… that, or camping in some absurd nook of the map, sniping people from a location that takes 45 seconds of insane platforming to get to.

Nightfire had a goofy as fuck main story mode, but the multiplayer was underrated, may even count as ‘hidden gem’ status, imo.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Close! That was Agent Under Fire, not Nightfire. It’s one of my favorite multiplayer shooters, specifically with nonsense like the Q Claw, Q Jet, and moon gravity turned on. Nightfire really pared back on the stuff that made Agent Under Fire ridiculous, and it was good for different reasons.

sp3ctr4l,

Ah crap, got my GC 007’s mixed up!

I am glad Im not the only one that enjoyed the absolute lunacy enabled by some of AoF’s gamemodes, lol.

acosmichippo,

i would like to see social spy craft stuff too. Dynamic dialog, interrogation, casino games, seducing NPcs etc

gwheel,

I’m expecting the biggest difference to be a removal or de emphasizing of the disguise system. Disguises are a core hitman mechanic but Bond very rarely uses them. (unless I’m forgetting stuff, and I haven’t seen all of the movies) I’m not sure what would fill the gameplay void left by them, vehicles could do it if handled well.

Squizzy,

Expand out the detective element, eavesdropping, tailing, building evidence. There are seeds to some of this in Hitmam but it would make sense in 007.

ampersandrew, do games w James Bond Game From Hitman Dev Has a New Title, 007 First Light, Official Reveal This Week

And hopefully they do away with those unlocks being tied to a server of theirs.

Squizzy,

100% I will pirate this game if it has any of that always connected shit.

Its a full price purchase otherwise, the three hitman games I was happy to support given their studio position at the time but they are not getting any leeway this time.

I find lack of multiplayer to be an improvement.

JakenVeina, do games w Elden Ring Nightreign’s Massive Steam Launch Tarnished by 'Mixed' User Reviews Over Lack of Duos Co-Op, Voice Chat

I don’t see the game getting either of those things.

Duos, you can already do, you just have to take on a rando as a third. They could scale the difficulty down for 2 players, sure, but Elden Ring’s mutiplayer scaling is notoriously terrible, in part because no amount of scaling can account for the lost potential for splitting aggro, in a game where splitting aggro is king.

Voice chat is something that FromSoft has INTENTIONALLY never included in any prior game, despite there being co-op in all of them. Making players coordinate with each other with very limited communication tools is one of FromSoft’s signature design choices. The fast pace of this game compared to prior games makes the lack of communication tools hurt a lot more, for sure, but it’s still very much playable. Anyone who dislikes this design choice is absolutely free to, but it’s not gonna change.

simple,

They said there will be a duos mode in a future update. I’m with you on voice chat, it doesn’t seem like it would ever be added.

I don’t know if Sega or Atlus did something to piss everyone off, if it’s some bizarre marketing stunt, or if the others just decided to pile on after Yuri went scorched earth on this. The whole thing’s pretty weird.

I was one of the ones to test this game back in March I think, I thought it was a lot of fun. And at that point there were only three classes and one final boss. I only played with randoms, as none of my friends got the invite. I’ll be picking this game up at some point for sure, maybe when it first goes on sale.

darthelmet, do games w Elden Ring Nightreign’s Massive Steam Launch Tarnished by 'Mixed' User Reviews Over Lack of Duos Co-Op, Voice Chat

I wasn’t planning to get the game because of the 3 player thing but I already knew that… why are people buying it then getting mad about it? Is the steam store page just not clear enough about it? In which case, fair.

Baggie,

I don’t think it’s obtuse or anything, this stuff isn’t hard to find out before buying. I think it’s probably closer to people being afraid of fromsoft doing something different, but don’t have words to articulate it, so they express it in other ways.

Eggyhead,

I wouldn’t hold it against them. You and I are in a place where we know the value in looking this stuff up, and we know the industry. There are a lot more people out there who don’t, and others who still haven’t made the mistake they need to in order to learn it.

Baggie,

Oh for sure, I don’t think less of people for these kind of situations. More at the state where it’s unfortunate but also interesting. We keep seeing these situations happen with varying amounts of justification from people, it’s interesting to try to understand what’s happening.

chameleon,
@chameleon@fedia.io avatar

The store page is kinda confusing. I don't think the line "Join forces with other players to take on the creeping night and the dangers within featuring 3-player co-op." along with both singleplayer and co-op listed as valid playing styles is something most reasonable people would interpret the way that it really is: be exactly 3 players with external voice chat available because all other ways of playing the game will suck hard.

They've been sorta honest about that in interviews and such but those don't have the same reach as their huge marketing campaign.

I’m not a huge Elden Ring guy, haven’t even played the DLC yet, but watching a streamer play Nightreign, I kinda wanna try it myself, even with these problems.

My friends aren’t into these types of games anyway, so it always would’ve with randoms (solo supposedly isn’t that good).

whostosay,

I have two friends and we’ve all be playing the souls games on and off for about 10 years, this game is hard and pretty different. It may just take getting used to, but without comms, it was rough random queuing. Us 3 in discord made significantly more progress, but it was absolutely a great time.

cccrontab,

Same here. Elden Ring was my first souls game. I would never have beat it without the seamless co-op mod. I just don’t have skill, time and patience for it.

Night Reign seems to me like an arcade version of Elden Ring. It forces you to move faster and make snap decisions (that blue flame closes in fast!). We got to Day 2 last night but I could see us pouring lots of hours into it.

whostosay,

Yeah that death wall needs to slow down a little, either in when it first comes out, or just the speed of it. Once in, you’re not coming out with any heals at all if you even make it.

Poopfeast420,
@Poopfeast420@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Different is good. I’m not a FromSoft-gamer. Elden Ring is the only game of theirs I really ever got into (and it’s not for lack of trying), so I don’t really care it’s not the same game again.

Also, you’re right, what I’ve seen doesn’t look easy, and no real communication at all is a bummer (only set a marker or jump and crouch in front of something), but it still looks like fun.

FooBarrington,

The map pinging has been sufficient communication for me. Other players can “confirm” your pings, which is a great way to show they agree.
