Kind of wild they just shadow dropped this, but glad to see.

taiyang, do games w Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster now available for PC

Oh fuck, I forgot about this. I never got a chance to play those because my brother, and then my father, both monopolized the games. Ironic the same was true of Kingdom Hearts, and it sounds like both are released a week of one another on steam. (Yay, reliving a childhood I didn’t have!)

BorgDrone, do games w PS VR2 to add PC support in 2024

It’ll probably require additional hardware though. At least some kind of adapter.

  • BorgDrone,

    The whole point of PC support is to use this without having a PS5. You can’t connect it to a PC without some additional hardware.

    Kolanaki,
    !deleted6508 avatar

    Er… Yeah I totally misunderstood. I wasn’t thinking about using the PSVR2 on a PC, but using PCVR HMDs on the PS5. 🤦‍♂️

    ObsidianZed,

    I don’t see why it would. It’s just a usb-c type connector. I would think it just boils down to driver/software.

    BorgDrone,

    No, it’s not just an USB-C USB3.0 connector. It uses an USB-C Alt-mode called VirtualLink. This was intended as a standard for connecting VR headsets and was briefly supported on PC, on 2000 series Nvidia cards, but no modern day cards support it.

    It combines USB3, DisplayPort and some other stuff, and has some specific power output requirements. The pinout is completely different from the common DisplayPort + USB2 alt mode.

    It will probably need an external box + power supply to work. Something like that already exists but hope/suspect the Sony version will be cheaper that his.

    Katana314, do games w Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered details enhancements, new features

    Feels kind of weird to have a remaster coming long after a total remake. Granted, I don’t think they remade 2-3, just the first one - and it was for the sake of their small trilogy referencing events from the first game. (I think it went, Legend, then Anniversary (Remake), then Underworld, right?)

    lloram239,

    The original games are so old that it is quite messy to get them to run on PC these days and the remake changed the gameplay quite substantially. So this remaster is quite welcome and probably a lot cheaper to produce than a full 2 and 3 remake.

    As for Anniversary, the story there is a bit weird, as Anniversary and Legend are basically completely independent games that have nothing much to do with each other other than the engine. Legend is a reboot and Anniversary is a remake. It’s only with Underworld that the the story of those two get wrangled together into a trilogy. Only the first game is taken into account there, all the other sequels of the original game are ignored.

    BlinkerFluid, do gaming w Netflix announces Devil May Cry anime series - Gematsu
    @BlinkerFluid@lemmy.one avatar

    Ehhh I don’t think this works. Dante is too powerful to be a main character in a series unless they straight up Alucard him into saving and protecting others.

    Think about it. What is a threat to Dante? Sure, other demons might hurt him or knock him around, but you’ll never feel like he’s in danger unless Vergil is on screen.

    cradac,

    It worked fairly well in the old anime. It had heaps of potential and was very fun to watch.

    mcgravier,

    You know, fighting isn't everything. OP character can work if writer puts an actual effort into it. Look at One Punch Man or Overlord. Completely overpowered characters can be written well. It's just that you can't focus story on fights alone.

    jlsalvador, do gaming w Ratatan Kickstarter campaign launched

    A full price release for the first milestone, and because it is a Kickstarter, without any guarantee. I’m sure that the Patapon fans will be happy, at least.

    chloyster,

    Yeah I mean I’d definitely prefer not a Kickstarter but as a Patapon fan I’ll take what I can get lol. First milestone already reached which is promising, though I am aware of the many Kickstarters that never delivered after being funded

    Poopfeast420,

    With how little money they are asking for, this Kickstarter only seems like an interest check to me, and everything is already funded. So, unless the studio just implodes, the game will probably come out in one form or another. Of course, how good the game is going to be, is another question.

    Kaldo, (edited ) do gaming w Tencent to acquire Techland
    @Kaldo@kbin.social avatar

    Just saw the article about this on IGN as well. I know they've been mostly hands-off with studios they acquire but this is still pretty sad news, I hate that even AA game devs are getting under the umbrella of few megacorps now...

    ICastFist, do games w Palworld x ULTRAKILL collaboration announced
    @ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

    Damn, if that gives Palworld a dungeon where the poor pals can get blasted into bloody gibs, I’m so fucking down - probably won’t get that violent, I suppose we might get some 2 or 3 weapons and 2 sets of armor + 1 raid boss

    Magical_Spark, do games w Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter adds Switch 2 version; ‘Prologue’ demo now available for PS5, Switch, and PC
    @Magical_Spark@jlai.lu avatar

    I started the Trails series because of the remake announcement a few months ago. Currently at Trails to Azure, I may revisit this remake once I reach the end of this long journey.

    Very excited to see how they animate the end of this game, and I really look forward to the 2nd chapter. I also really look forward to the soundtrack for one track in particular towards the end.

    I am also tempted to just revisit this remake at release, but hngh, will be better once the story is a bit less fresh in my mind.

    Katana314,

    How well they reproduce some of those key drama stings is definitely key to the game’s rating imo.

    A lot of game directors don’t quite appreciate just how short scenes like FF7’s death of Aeris are; or what made them compelling even with poor visuals on a struggling console. I’m a little bit worried some of these scenes will get over-acted, and leave players kind of “done with the scene” before they’ve wrapped up. Trails has way too much dialogue overall, but it ends up working well when it gives you a series of huge “WHAM” moments, and the credits are rolling before you’ve fully parsed it.

    spoilerBut now that I think about it, they could likely wind down some of Weissman’s speech during his reveal.

    prole,

    Are you playing them in chronological order? Or did you start with the Crossbell duology?

    Magical_Spark,
    @Magical_Spark@jlai.lu avatar

    Playing in release order. Sky trilogy and then Crossbell duology currently, and then Cold Steel it shall be.

    prole,

    Ahhh… I was playing them in chronological, but starting with Cold Steel. The events in Crossbell happen during the first couple Cold Steel game, and it’s interesting to read about it in the newspaper, and hear people mention rumors about it.

    Haven’t finished Cold Steel 3 yet, and I’ll probably play the Trails in the Sky remakes

    Rai, do games w Shenmue III Enhanced announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo, and PC

    I started it recently and I love it very much so far. I’d rather hear of a Shenmue 4 than a 3 enhanced…

    PonyOfWar, do games w Shenmue III Enhanced announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo, and PC

    Are there any people who even liked shenmue 3?

    I haven’t played it yet, but I’ve noticed way more positive opinions online about the game the further we got from its release date. It’s currently 75% positive-rated on Steam and even 92% from recent reviews.

    I think the game was way overhyped, but now that people don’t expect it to be some monumental achievement, some actually do like it.

    yermaw,

    Im scared of playing it. 1 and 2 were incredible and then 3 just had way too much time before it came out. Nothing it could realistically be would match the hopes and expectations I’ll have attached to it.

    I might give this a try if it appears on gamepass or supercheap

    PonyOfWar,

    It was free on EGS back in 2021. Has been sitting in my backlog since then.

    EarlGrey, (edited )

    The biggest issue among the Shenmue community was that it left us in another fucking cliffhanger. Seriously. Yu. I love how dedicated you are to your vision…but this is getting annoying.

    Most of the other criticisms were about how slow and plodding some things were…which is something a lot of us liked about Shenmue.
