Tischkante, do games w Epic Games to update Unreal Engine pricing for devs not making games

Altering the deal eh, at least they take smaller steps.

SMITHandWESSON, (edited ) do games w Microsoft's next-generation Xbox pitched as a "cloud hybrid" console
@SMITHandWESSON@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not buying another Xbox seeing that Samsung is putting Gamepass on thier TV’s with no extra hardware required except for a controller…

news.xbox.com/…/xbox-cloud-gaming-coming-to-more-…

Nevermind the fact that everyone is doing cross-platform multi-player games. One of the main advantages of console gaming is everyone is running the same hardware. If that’s the future, then I’ll just play on PC.

phillaholic,

Samsung TV UIs are laggy as shit, I don’t have high hopes that it’ll work reliably long term.

The new Samsung TV’s have free sync like PC monitors…

phillaholic,

That may be, I have a model newer than the was written and I can tell you the menu and apps are laggy in comparison to my 1st gen 4K AppleTV. Does PC GamePass work on TVs? I can try it.

IWantToFuckSpez, do games w Microsoft's next-generation Xbox pitched as a "cloud hybrid" console

This sounds familiar. Haven’t they been promising this hybrid cloud computing since Crackdown 3?

BeardedGingerWonder, do gaming w The 'deprofessionalization of video games' was on full display at PAX East

Has this not been the state of the games industry for the most of time? Small bedroom coders get a break, build a studio, fire out some games, get bought out of grow huge. The founders move on and start a new studio, rinse, repeat. The games industry has always appeared pretty democratic in that specific regard, barrier to entry is pretty low compared to most other industries.

As for the over performance of older games, have they noticed they get cheaper and less shit than on launch?

DragonTypeWyvern, do games w Obituary: Legacy of Kain writer Jim Curry has died

I remember Gex even though I never played it and no one else did either so I don’t know if that makes him good at marketing or not.

falidorn, do games w Iron Galaxy lays off 66 developers in 'last resort' lifesaving effort

What does this have to do with live service?

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Rumbleverse did not go well for them.

falidorn,

I must be super behind the times. All I knew about Iron Galaxy was ports, Killer Instinct, and Divekick.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

They do a lot of support work, but now and then they get out a project of their own. Rumbleverse was well regarded by its audience, but it was also like the 90th battle royale to come out, and it never stood a chance.

zipzoopaboop,

Borderlands handsome collection was fantastic. Hope they pull though

NuXCOM_90Percent,

Iron Galaxy was semi-unique in that they basically existed as the company you go to when you need to contract out some support work. Think Bluepoint but the idea is that the end customer never realizes that this wasn’t made by a time traveling Rare from the 00s or whatever. Whereas they basically just stay afloat from a constant stream of low-medium price deals.

The leadership are dipshits and have made it a point to show it many times over the years (and Giant Bomb/Jeff Gerstmann have always done a great job of covering for them…) but it was a solid company that was pretty loved in the area and the industry (leadership aside).

So for IG to be going under is a REALLY bad sign for the health of the industry as a whole. Because this wasn’t “Hey, we have an excellent track record of new IPs and always release our games on time and under budget”. It is “Hey, we have an excellent track record of letting you sell more copies of a sure thing”.

Telorand, do gaming w SAG-AFTRA returns to negotiating table with major studios, with over 120 games already signed to interim contract

Veticia, do gaming w Analyst: Windows on Arm is not ready for the complexities of the PC gaming landscape
@Veticia@lemmy.ml avatar

Microsoft convinced hardware manufacturers to support UEFI and TPM overnight. If they just said next Windows is going to be ARM only software manufacturers would have to follow.

Hello Games.

Katana314, do games w Thunderful says SteamWorld Build underperformed, reveals it's looking to sell Headup

I enjoyed what I played of it, but…ran into a game-breaking bug. Not sure what else to say. They’re probably right that if city builders are best on mouse, you can’t easily enjoy that on Switch.

jballs, do games w Starbreeze admits Payday 3 is massively underperforming
@jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

I played it a lot at launch. Frankly it’s just boring after a while. There’s only something like 6 or 7 missions. You get no rewards for completing missions except for random achievements and cash, which is pretty useless overall.

Phegan, do games w Embracer says it's looking out for shareholders after cutting almost 1,400 jobs
