Curious to hear what your thoughts are of the “punishing death penalty”. For Demon’s Souls, sure, if you’re not great at the game it can be rather intimidating. Dark Souls has an equivalent system to Elden Ring where you can become human to enable multi-player, where dying just means you can’t co-op (or even be invaded). For all the others, it’s just a bit of health that you lose if at all(you can avoid it with items for tough spots).
But if it’s souls being on the ground that’s the issue, that’s also in Elden Ring so I’m confused.
I consider losing all the money and XP you’ve accumulated since the last save to be extremely punishing. Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t begin to express how much I hate losing progress. Everything I just did for the last X minutes since the last save was completely undone. Nothing to show for it, no XP, no money, no progress toward my next goal. Just a complete fucking waste of time and X minutes of stress I’ll have to repeat. It’s like I lost power and corrupted my save file. It’s the worst feeling in gaming for me.
Yes, I realize you can get that XP/money back but it adds a level of stress that makes my stomach roil even thinking about it right now. No amount of suggestions on how to think of it differently has changed my perception of it significantly. I dealt with it in Elden Ring for a while but it’s probably the main reason I stopped playing that game.
Playing a game with similar mechanics but without the death penalty makes me realize how much more fun Elden Ring would have been without it. IMHO of course. YMMV
Your mistake is thinking dying is failure in those games when it’s literally just learning. It’s why Dark Souls is called “Prepare to Die”, it’sjust part of the game and it’s why there are checkpoints every 15m. When you die to some enemy hiding in a corner, you then know exactly where that enemy is next time.
It’s hard for me to grasp how new players approach the game at this point because it’s just ingrained, but it seems like you had the wrong idea about the mechanics and kinda entrenched yourself in that belief. Hope you come around.
Onepace is a fan project that recuts the One Piece anime in an endeavor to bring it more in line with the pacing of the original manga by Eiichiro Oda. The team accomplishes this by removing filler scenes not present in the source material.
They have torrents for all their episodes. I can really recommend, because Onepace is not as stupidly drawn out as Onepiece can sometimes be.
Ever since the pandemic, I wanted a multiplayer skateboarding game where the social aspects of it are just as important as the mechanics so you can hang out with your friends and skate in a way that feels authentic to doing it in real life. Instead of having a plain multiplayer lobby, you could have an apartment you could decorate that you guys could hang out in before you pick the map. You'd be able to sit on your skateboard or chairs and benches to get out of the way-or also to be an obstacle if you wanted. It would also be pretty cool to edit a map in real-time by having some items be movable by the players, like kickers. The maps would vary between skateparks, street skate spots, and DIY spots that have been modified to be more skateable. There could be a couple NPCs you could skate with if you don't have any friends online, but they would be more predictable in how they behave. There could also be NPCs that are purely obstacles, as well.
I’m using the Quest 2 and loving it. I recently moved my router (a Netgear Orbi) into my office and I’ve been using AirLink instead of the tether and it’s actually working super well. Probably gonna shell out the cash for the Quest 3 when it comes out because I think the fresnel lenses are the biggest drawback of the Quest 2.
For games I’ve been playing Into the Radius, a heavily moded version of Skyrim VR, and Demeo. If you like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Into the Radius is almost like an unofficial sequel and is soooooo immersive. Skyrim VR is worth the trouble of modding. Feels like a new game. Demeo is just a lot of fun to play with friends, but the amount of time it takes to play a full game usually kills my headset battery.
I mean, I've never really liked consoles, but it doesn't sound like the console itself is the issue here. Most of the indies I play on PC also have a PS port, so you should be able to find a lot of non-AAA and non-overhyped titles on the PS platform.
I suppose there's also the matter of weighing the prices too; for me I always need a pretty beefy PC to begin with so having a console is just additional expense for a worse experience, but that's for me. You might have to pay quite a bit more and get a lot more games for PC's cheaper games to break even on the decision to move.

I’ve been a Nintendo gamer most of my life and recently got a Steam Deck.
I’ve never really played or seen much of an appeal with most US studio games.
With how much many companies are trying to take power away from us, it does feel very satisfying when you find a game that’s available under a free, redistribution-permissive, license that you find very fun. Sadly, those are very few.
I only got into VR a couple of months ago, I have a Quest 2.
I want to play FPS games with it, but haven’t been really motivated to stick to it - I’m really just waiting for my friends to get their own unit too, so we can play together…
But for now, I play games like Pistol Whip and Thrill of The Fight for exercising, and I also play Cards and Tankards.
I have the original Rift and a PSVR2. The VR2 is so far ahead technologically that the Rift feels like a dinosaur. But I miss being able to mod Fallout 4 and Skyrim so much. Really hoping mods are able to get it useable on PC, being stuck into Sony’s environment feels bad.
