I really struggle to stay alive, I find I am always having to heal and spend resources on staying alive instead of attacking. Are you guys that are making successful runs constantly defending???

prd,

It helps to shift your mentality to “how can I do the most damage as fast as possible to minimize the number of turns a fight will take”

Real success, especially at higher ascension levels, comes from maximizing draw and energy so you can play more cards to do more damage more faster

AceFuzzLord,

I also seem to end up with the same problem. I either defend too much or die attacking and it’s annoying. I can’t seem to ever find a middle ground that works. I swear all my runs I’ve run are just flukes.

first skyrim run in like a decade, really makes it obvious how technically shitty the game is. so many immersion-ruining moments all the time, like people talking over each other. also the world map screen might be the most ugly and least useful of its kind. if i was on pc i’d install the mod that displays roads on the map.

but the atmosphere is nice :)

AceFuzzLord, do gaming w Let's discuss: Slay the Spire

I suck at the game, so winning isn’t an option for me. But I really like either going poison or daggers for the skull wearing guy. I haven’t even bothered with ascension as I’m still trying to do the keys thing while beating a run with a single character.

I’d say the closest I’ve played to Slay the Spire’s “pick a path” style deck builder would be Peglin and One More Gate. Peglin is definitely a lot closer to Slay the Spire as you start off a blank slate every run (minus custom mode), whereas One More Gate is, so far, you do a run, come back to the hub area, buy/sell cards/upgrades, do another run to get slightly further.

Pretty much the only other deck builders I have are ones where you don’t get to choose where you go next and go from battle to battle without any path choices or chance based event areas (Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate and Ardor).

i will never not simp for shiv silent. easily my favorite way to play. wonderful game.

i like to play what I call A20EZ cuz I’m not the best at the game: play A20 on custom, with sealed draft, vintage and the ending modifiers. it’s very fun to just start with a strong deck and get tons of relics!

it also feels like it teaches me what is actually strong in terms of raw card synergy, which has been very nice for learning how to get better at the game without suffering through being bad at the game as much.

littletoolshed,

Sinistar wasn’t vector, though.

lordfrito,

yeah wasn’t Sinistar

Rhynoplaz,

That’s what I thought of first.

lordfrito,

Star Castle?

lordfrito,

I really feel like Disco Elysium treads the line between RPG and old school Adventure Game.
If you want story, its got it in spades.

If you have access to a PS4 or Nintendo Switch: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

A crazy and interesting sci-fi game, mixes point-and-click adventure with tower defense action stages. Story is amazing and I absolutely love Vanillaware’s 2D art.

daniyeg,

unfortunately have access to neither, nor switch emulation capable hardware. im not really a fan of anime artstyles so it doesn’t look like much of a loss to me. thanks for your recommendation anyway.

The Longest Journey. It’s my favorite point and click of all time. Epic, beautiful, and fun. A couple of Babel fish-level puzzles, but otherwise a steady and engaging story with a very likable lead. The much-delayed sequel, Dreamfall, tried some things and mostly failed, but was still a pretty interesting story extension. I haven’t played the last episodic entry, Dreamfall chapters, because I’m slowly working my way through the first two again first.

daniyeg,

sounds interesting i will check it out. thanks for the recommendation.

For a moment, reading your post, I thought this was going to be a big moment for my username.

But alas. I’m a vector games fan, but your description isn’t ringing to any bells for me.

lordfrito,

yeah but no… this game was def 3d … plus major havoc doesn’t have a creepy talking head

You’d probably find Pentiment interesting.

Also, maybe the Ace Attorney games.

And also seconding Disco Elysium; it has some of the best writing I’ve seen in a game.

daniyeg,

played almost all ace attorney games. i got nothing bad against them but honestly the plot is really frustrating i don’t know how i played through all of them.

Disco Elysium was an awesome game it is one of my top 10 games for sure. it’s funny, emotional, bizarre or thought provoking when it needs to be, delivered in such a style it’s hard to match.

haven’t heard of Pentiment will definitely check it out.

Another vote for Disco Elysium. For an old-school classic dripping in atmosphere, check out the 1997 Blade Runner PC game.
