Action-packed PVP FPS

Yuck. Pass.

earth,

Git gud.

Jk, kinda

BlameTheAntifa,

I find PVP games inherently toxic and have better things to do with my life.

mrfriki, (edited ) do games w Finally, the FPS I keep asking for: Deep combat, classic modes, and an honest-to-god server browser

Oh, but this game is also single player, right? I remember playing the demo and wishlisting it because is was so satisfying the movement and the shooting. Is still single player o has it evolved to mainly multiplayer?

cerebralhawks, do gaming w No more Jackie

I’m a big fan of the “the mentor dies to push the student forward” trope, so it makes sense to me that Jackie dies and that pushes us into Johnny’s camp, for better or worse. And Johnny is a worse Jackie in every way (except that he’s modeled after and voiced by Keanu Reeves), until he’s not, which takes a while.

Still, I felt it would have fit to have more time bonding with Jackie. They imply it in the opening movie after the prologue, but it would be nice to actually go through with all of it. I feel like it makes more sense if you’re playing a guy, but since they let you play a woman and they got such a damn good voice actor to voice her, not using her makes about as much sense as replacing Keanu Reeves with some rando for whatever reason. As a nerd, pairing Asuna (SAO) with Neo (The Matrix) is just too freakin’ cool to pass up. So anyway, girls tend to have it rough in Night City, so it would stand to reason it would take longer for V(alerie) to trust Jackie, not just one mission and then a montage of hanging out. Mass Effect, I think 2 or maybe 3, did this so much better, especially if you were romancing Liara (the blue chick), you had all this extra time to build a solid friendship with Garrus (the tall greyish, blueish alien with the ridged forehead). You could altneratively romance him, but if you weren’t going for that, the game made a hell of a friendship between him and FemShep that was believable, you could fully expect Garrus to follow you to Hell and back at the end of the trilogy. (Granted, that is a whole trilogy and not just a first act. Still, Mass Effect laid the foundation a decade prior.)

foodvacuum, do games w Star Citizen is on course to reach $1 billion in player funding in 2026, and we still might not get to play its singleplayer campaign next year

Me having spent zero dollars on this. Only interaction ever was installing that hangar thing back when it was the only thing. Maybe there was some demo when the space station first became available and some fps gameplay test.

Still looking forward to it. If the story is good, works on Linux, I’ll buy it. I remember a decade ago being worried the Haswell and Maxwell PC I was putting together wouldn’t be good enough when Star Citizen would drop. Not very concerned anymore

BlameTheAntifa,

Star Citizen works well on Linux via a community-maintained tool called LUG. Getting other fancy peripherals like head tracking requires some creative use of a Windows VM, because those peripheral makers don’t support Linux. If Squadron 42 ever actually materializes, then the community will have it covered.

Omega_Jimes, do games w Star Citizen is on course to reach $1 billion in player funding in 2026, and we still might not get to play its singleplayer campaign next year

Man I was so stoked during the kickstarter. No suits controlling Chris Roberts, crowd funded, open development of an epic space game.

Now, I’m pretty sure I won’t even have time to play it by the time it’s released. They got my $45 a long time ago, and I’ve spent more time on SC than a lot of $45 games, but…yeah, I’m not excited about it anymore.

realitista, do gaming w Linux has had a great year, but there are two reasons I can't tear myself away from Windows

For me it’s my work’s dependence on MS office/outlook.

chahk,

Work makes you use your own computer?

realitista,

I actually use Macs as desktop/laptop at home, Linux for servers at home, and Windows at work. And each of those is the best choice for that particular task IMO. I do have the option of a Mac at work but Office is so much better on Windows that I stick to Windows and just install it with Rufus and StartAllBack to make it good. I did buy a little Surface Go to use on planes and in meetings for note taking with my own money, though.

I plan on using Windows at home and Mac for college and stuff when I go. Linux, maybe to store photos I think

realitista,

Yeah it all depends on your use case. For me at home, I manage my music and photos on mac, and managing my smarthome servers on linux. Mac is good for that. Office at work, Windows is good for that. Linux is the only good choice for servers IMO.

Lfrith, (edited )

I think what device work makes you use isn’t too important since they provide the hardware and nothing on it is private anyways regardless of the OS that is being used on it.

Work and private devices are different, since one of them is for you and not some company.

Flatfire, do gaming w Gaming PC with Chinese-made x86 CPU and Nvidia graphics goes on sale, but you probably wouldn't want to buy it even if you could

These Zen-esque chips have come up before, though it sounds like this might be the first time they’ve been used in a marketed product. A couple other companies born out of the remnants of Centaur also seemed to have borrowed architectural notes from the early Zen CPUs, potentially as a result of their competitors like Hygon making that deal with AMD almost 10 years ago. It’s the first time one seems to be almost a boilerplate 1700x though.

Delaying the game another six months cost the company a full 3% on their market cap and god knows how much in long term costs.

Employers seem ready to slit their wrists if it’ll get blood on a union organizer.

mhague, do games w 'I think we're in the fight of our lives': Fired Rockstar employees and IWGB are confident the GTA 6 developer will be held accountable for its alleged union busting

I just want to play missions where I drive slowly behind a car. Or missions where I fail for breathing too hard. I’m tired of playing games with open ended objectives. I hate games where I have a bunch of guns, cars, and helicopters and then I’m able to use that stuff in the story.

Rockstar are the best at making cinematic experiences play out like Dance Dance Revolution. I just want to be told what buttons to push, where to stand, what tools to use, so I can see the funny people do funny things.

Fuck these delays I need my gigaslop polished and squeezed out now!
