Shows how timeless the games you listed are, I played most of them in the mid-late 2000s as a kid and never thought of them as “old” like I do with the SNES, lol.
Yeah, it does, but what are you missing exactly? Can you not get to the final boss without the DLC? No, you can get to the boss no problem, and in fact going to DLC biomes sometimes means you can’t get to the final biome/boss. Is your playtime reduced to less chambers/run? Nope, the number of chambers and biome-bosses remain the same. Is the gameplay altered? Nope, all runes and weapons that you need to finish the game is there in the base game and unlockable.
I know, because I played the base game only until the Dead Cells Castlevania PS5 collection came out.
You’re being disingenuous in making it seem like they purposefully cut content and then added it back for $$$, when Evil Empire has been adding a lot of free updates to the base game since 2019.
I get what you mean, but Dead Cells was already a completed roguelike on launch. The DLC’s add variety and additional story, but you can still get the full gameplay experience with just the base game.
It’s like saying you won’t support the Elden Ring because it has DLC.
Also, the Castlevania DLC is just fucking cool. The soundtrack for those levels alone are just -chef’s kiss-, and probably the closest we’ll get to a new 2D Castlevania 🥲
Ok but again, are they ports or did new content go into it? Did a whole new soundtrack and full orchestral recording go into your 60 Capcom games? There IS a labour difference between adding new/upscaling the content vs porting it to new hardware and calling it a day.
Saying “call it what you want” is pretty disrespectful to the people actually working on modernizing these games (I’m one of those people).
They aren’t though? They’re not ports, they’re partial rebuilds of the games in Unity with native resolution support, new pixel art, full arrangement of most of the music, and huge QoL and gameplay improvements/modernization.
I’m not a huge fan of SqEnix’s money grabbing (see: literally any of their FF gatcha content), but the Pixel remasters are one of the few that are actually worth it…at $50 for the whole bundle. Not $25/ remastered game.
Am I hallucinating, because there was definitely a bundle that had all 6 remasters that I got… for $50 in 2022 I wanna say? All 6 are in my library and there is no way I spent $25x6 (or whatever the price is, I know FF I and II are lower in price).
Lmao I love Hades but this is such a sick burn, I’m stealing it for next time someone tries to convince me some shlocky k-drama is peak kino.
I do hope Hades 2 ups the variability of the encounters more, you’re absolutely right about endgame being a bit weak for a roguelike, even with the different weapons.
If it was money thing, couldn’t he just say “I needed as much coin as I could scrape up to get Sora from Disney” like he basically said with the last wave of DLC characters?
Maybe it’s my nostalgia glasses, but this is something I actually believe coming from Sakurai. The man almost hates useless ads as much as Lemmy users.
Nintendo first party IP alone can carry them through, not to mention the national pride Japan has towards their success. Western Sales are nice, but I don’t think they put as much attention into them.
