The conspiracist in me wonders if this is intentional as the result of a deal with other publishers. Maybe its just that ‘the devs didnt get around to it’ but honestly with how simple it should be to release things on GOG i more wonder if it isnt suppression.
Yeah that’s fair, and im not defending the practice, it just made me think of some games that Ive seen that have multiple executables, usually with an inbuilt launcher that i have to bypass. Or when games used to come with a dx11 and dx12 executable. Personally i find that in itself super sloppy and annoying as well, but it makes a kind of lazy sense to just apply it to all the game files, in that its just one less thing to have to change if you make an alteration to the name of the executable file or add a new executable for whatever reason. Just one less possible failure point. But yeah I can see how its definitely not best practice.
No im saying theres no such thing as a “GOG” version afaik. Its just the game files. What features differentiate a ‘GOG’ version from the same game acquired anywhere else? Their whole business model is offering games without any DRM or storefront added features, you dont even need to use their launcher, you can just download the game files directly. Whereas ‘Steam’ versions have all sorts of code added to be compatible with Steam.
I mean i assume thats just easier to deal with updates where a game has multiple exe files that may or may not change names. Assuming everything in the directory is assumed to be safe, is there any downside to applying it to everything, aside from opening up the possibility of a user accidentally trying to execute like a texture file or something which I assume just wouldnt work? Lmao the subway complaint is the dumbest thing ive ever read. The subway was added to the game and it was the most boring shit ever, why would you want to have to walk into a train system and watch a non skippable cutscene just to be able to travel somewhere. Talk about a stupid feature that somehow got latched onto by thousands of bitter basement dwellers who will never be satisfied.
I mean i dont think its the best game ever or anything, but compared to say breath of the wild which is celebrated for its open world for some reason but which is just 99% empty space with a thousand rocks you have to turn over, cyberpunks world is so much more dynamic and alive. There are tons of little hidden quests that you have to stumble upon or be in the right place at the right time. There are tons of little hidden easter eggs, like a dead sniper on one roof with a log entry, and on the roof opposite that a bunch of dead gang members with a corresponding log entry. You really have to search and read everything in cyberpunk to find the little gems, and by the end theres a lot of unnecessary loot and repeated data files, but when you stumble across the reallt interesting hidden bits it makes it all worth it i think. Regardless if you play for more than an hour or two and take the time to explore then its obvious a lot of care went into crafting the world, more than just creating a dumb little puzzle and then copy pasting it 50 times all over the map.
Somebody else also said it but the steam deck is amazing. Mid level pc performance that can handle almost all new games, and you can use a dock and have it set up just like a console. I use mine all yhe time with bluetooth ps4 controllers. Much bigger games library+being able to emulate so many older consoles makes it a no brainer i think.
I just started playing ghost of tsushima on my steam deck and it’s fucking gorgeous even on low settings, so I assume that would be pretty beautiful maxed out too.
No. My girlfriend and I are 140 hours in and still not finished, and I’m amazed at how smooth the coop works with the story. You can each be different places doing different things, or you can travel together, you can each have your own relationships with npcs. A lot of conversations with npcs will repeat depending on who’s talking, but important story ones won’t. As long as you mostly stick together and make choices together, you’ll have every option a single player game does.
It’s that fucking readyplayerone movie. They all saw that and thought “what if everyone was obsessed with a virtual world, and there was only one virtual world that was basically a monopoly, and what if we controlled it all” without realizing how dumb that is and that competing, and likely better software will definitely end up being created organically by people who care about the end result more than they do about money.
