im ok with niche/janky as long as it doesn’t fry my laptop it’s fine, so hit me with your best.
heaven’s vault was great. i really liked it especially the new game+ and the story. the translation mechanic didn’t really impress me but it’ll sometimes produce some head scratchers.
the case of golden idol was a brilliant detective game no notes. one mistake i made was disabling automatic highlight of keywords, it doesn’t add anything to the puzzles you just spam click until you hit a keyword.
i didn’t like chants of sennaar that much. its art is good but it was too easy and it just didn’t click with me as much as it should have.
west of loathing is awesome, i’ve played the original kingdom of loathing and was glad to see it was as much silly and funny as its predecessor. i would also recommend shadows over loathing alongside west of loathing to anyone that hasn’t played these games. kingdom of loathing is a really old browser game and is more of a daily type of game so i wouldn’t exactly recommend it. all of them are set in the same universe but in different time periods so you don’t need to play all of them or play them in order in order to just play one of them.
haven’t played the rest so i’ll definitely check them out. thanks for the list!
unfortunately have access to neither, nor switch emulation capable hardware. im not really a fan of anime artstyles so it doesn’t look like much of a loss to me. thanks for your recommendation anyway.
tried playing it with my friend but our networks were so bad we gave up and i never tried out the game again. from the 5 minute i played it didn’t look like it has much of a story but maybe it’s time for me to actually play it.
played almost all ace attorney games. i got nothing bad against them but honestly the plot is really frustrating i don’t know how i played through all of them.
Disco Elysium was an awesome game it is one of my top 10 games for sure. it’s funny, emotional, bizarre or thought provoking when it needs to be, delivered in such a style it’s hard to match.
haven’t heard of Pentiment will definitely check it out.
super mario bros on one of those NES bootlegs that have “16000” games while in reality it’s more like 50 60 pirated games repeated across the whole list. remember i couldn’t finish the second level really couldn’t time the moving platform jump over the hole. it was fun.
games made with agile teams and with passions are probably good, regardless of when they were made. i’m young but growing up i only had access to really old computers and saw that most of the stuff that was made back in the day was just garbage shovelware. it was hard not to get buried in them.
most triple A developers today are far more skilled in both writing and optimizing the code however when the management is forcing you to work long hours you’re gonna make more mistakes and with tight deadlines, if you’re doing testing and bug fixing after developing the entire game then it’s going to be the first thing that’s getting cut.
that being said i wish they really did something about the massive size games take on disk. my screen is 1080p, my hardware can barely handle your game on low in 1080p so everything is gonna get downscaled regardless and despite how hard you wanna ignore it data caps are still here, why am i forced to get all assets and textures in 4k 8k? make it optional goddamit.
got some free time so i made my mission to beat all zachtronics games. right now i’m playing EXAPUNKS. finishing the levels are doable although requires a bit of trial and error, but getting good scores let alone perfect ones is a nightmare. highly recommend it to anyone that wants a great challenging puzzle game.
i was saying hypothetically, runelite isn’t banned. jagex nuked hd clients and plugins 2 years ago for their own hd but reversed it due to backlash. they took their time on hd for sure.
nothing that jagex does can entice me to use their client aside from banning runelite. don’t know why the went through all the trouble of just recreating runelite but worse and without all the plugin support
i’m gonna blatantly disregard your “but where the consequences actually matter” and recommend most of telltale’s games (The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us are the better ones).
besides them and the suggestion of others i would also recommend Tyranny. great CRPG made by Obsidian.
if there’s one rule to modding valve games, it’s “don’t touch GabeN’s hat and skin sales”. TF2 despite being a real mess and valve’s server being practically unplayable, still brings in millions of dollars of gambling money, and now that CS2 keys are not tradable TF2 keys are in demand for laundering money. of course they are gonna take down a direct remake of their live service game minus all the bots and shitty cosmetics.
