callouscomic,

2nd post of this in another community I’ve seen. Idiotic name. Probably just marketing their bullshit.

Suggestions? Games that won't make me feel alone? angielski

I need some suggestions on what to play. Single Player games only. Most of the games make me feel lonely and alone. In most of the games, the protagonist has to deal with the problems on their own, like Control, Crysis, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War (I liked the original 6 more than the new ones, even though the new ones had...

callouscomic,

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. You will work together with an increasing team of friends and allies to survive ridiculous circumstances.

The story is incredible, but the character building is excellent. Great fast paces action RPG with party switching, so you’ll always have 2 playing with you. The story really shows deep friendship development, especially if you ensure to do all side quests and talk to characters at various story points.

I’ll stick with my Steam cloud saves and game notes and community forums and community guides and custom controller configurations and community controller configurations and overlay and workshop and screenshots and steam deck and steam link and …

Also, the very first game I ever bought on Steam was almost 15 years ago, and it was delisted and has not been available on Steam for over 10 years. Yet I can still re-download and play it right now.

Steam is not the evil corporation people pretend it is. Take your rage to Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

callouscomic,

I do agree the community discussions have gone to shit. But that’s true of the entire fucking internet. People are assholes when veiled behind anonymity. That’s not a Steam issue. It’s a human issue.

In your opinion, what video games have terrible names?

Day -11 of posting a screenshot from a game I've been playing until I also forget to post screenshots angielski

Today is Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty from the Master Collection, Volume 1 on Steam. This is really just the HD edition from a decade ago though. But they did seem to enhance the visuals a bit, and like the other collection games, it comes with some background material like a Screenplay. This was probably my 20th time...

What happened to the turn based RPG and RTS genres? angielski

I remember fondly the days of playing Heroes of Might and Magic II, never played HOMM3 or anything after, but as I looked at the latest and most “recent” heroes games… they’re all rated/reviewed SO harshly. Apparently, they never gained steam like the earlier titles. RTS seems to have the same issue, tapering off....

callouscomic,

Isn’t Steam literally having a turn-based sale right now?

Anyways, I think turn-based games are less fun and more tedious. Except Field Commander on PSP. That was a lot of fun.

Day -10 of posting a screenshot from a game I've been playing until I also forget to post screenshots angielski

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for PS Vita. Fishing edition. Some random fishing pics I grabbed. I liked the fishing part of the game. It even slightly contributes to the story and progress if you catch them all....

callouscomic,

This game actually has an incredibly good story.

callouscomic,

It’s an excellent story and great action gameplay. It’s long, but persist and the story pays off incredibly.

callouscomic,

Jesus hung out with fishermen.

Day -9 of posting a screenshot from a game I've been playing until I also forget to post screenshots angielski

Metal Gear Solid from their recent Master Collection, Volume 1. Played mostly via Steam Link and a little bit on Steam Deck. This was playing through the Japanese version (it has pretty much every version included). At this moment I think Snake’s saying “that takes care of the cremation.”...

Day -8 of posting a screenshot from a game I've been playing until I also forget to post screenshots angielski

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection, Volume 1. Mostly played streaming to my TV via Steam Link, but also played a bit on Steam Deck. I think this is an English dub of the MSX version. This isn’t the NES version. It was an excellent game for its time....

callouscomic,

I used a guide to be sure I saw everything and could just focus on the story, which is mainly why I played them. I spent about 15 hours plating both thoroughly. So they’re fairly short. I really liked them. Especially considering when they were originally released.

callouscomic,

Looks neat, but ewww, turn based. I don’t get the appeal of turn based games. They feel so tedious.

callouscomic,

It’s okay Ubisoft. YOU fell behind our expectations a looooooooong time ago.

callouscomic,

It honestly is a large DLC that overstays its welcome. I know a lot of people think this game is kind of meh to begin with, but if someone enjoyed the original game and story, I think they’ll like the DLC because it has some more closure on the story and it does introduce some neat new gameplay mechanics.

The issue is you gotta really stick with it. It starts out fun to explore a new area, and then eventually you reach this point where it becomes a bit frustrating, but as you get through it, some stuff unlocks and it becomes really cool gameplay-wise. Also there’s a middle semi-grindy part where it felt like the difficulty got unfair, but after some unlocks involved in the grindy pary it got fun again and really became something else.

I think it could have been done a bit better, but overall as a fan of the original game, I enjoyed myself. You just unfortunately gotta push through to the end to get past this kind of middle part that drags.

There’s lots of fun and ridiculous characters too. I think they did a great job having it really feel like it fits the goofy theme of the game world even though it wasn’t the original team.

callouscomic,

The original release had 2 DLC’s. This is the re-release called Re-Reckoning, which inherently included the original 2 DLC’s, amd then a bit later they did a new DLC called Faresworn that the original release never had. This is from that most recent DLC story and area.

callouscomic,

I’ve played this game to 100% both on the original release, and this re-release.

It’s one of my favorite action rpg’s out there. It’s not special. It never did anything new, really. It originally released around the same time as Skyrim and got forgotten. I still have always felt this game is better and more fun than people give credit for. It’s huge, has tons to do, has bright colorful biomes, goofy characters, silly stories, cool effects, and is just such a charming thing.

Some of my love for it is that it’s just a simple fun accessible action rpg. Some is I genuinely liked the stories. Some of it I liked how cliche and cheesy it was at times. And back when it first released, some of it was just nice to see some actual color compared to Skyrim back then, which I was also playing.

callouscomic,

Bonus pic outside one of the northern towns at night.

callouscomic,

You could could say their stock went limp. They be soft.

callouscomic,

Bonus pic of a nice view. Good thing there’s a railing for safety. The town you see down there is in the game and near where you begin.

callouscomic,

Yes, this is late game where it’s easy to max out before the end. I will say I liked the progression in game. You certainly have to work a bit to get there, but then it’s satisfying.

callouscomic,

The re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release generation.

callouscomic,

Why bother re-releasing dead games stuck on PS3 when you can do this?

Day -3 of posting a screenshot from a game I've been playing until I also forget to post screenshots angielski

Ys I Chronicles on Steam Deck. A (very important to the lore) woman that the main character rescues is fainting because she had to walk all the way back to town. What a monster he is to not carry her the entire way! Haha.

callouscomic,

Thank the other person for inspiring me. They’re on like day 68 or something and I too enjoy seeing what others are up to and sharing.

callouscomic,

I had always heard how horrible it is to go back to these games, and I regret not playing them sooner. It was very fun. People misled me about the old combat style. It’s just different, but not bad.

callouscomic,

Awesome! It is a wonderful handheld.

callouscomic, (edited )

I personally love the Ys stories. They pack tons of character development and story into single games. The gameplay is primarily why I love it. It’s some of the best action hack n slash for me. I know some of it is trophy and typical but I don’t care. The stories usually have fun twists and memorable moments with all the characters. Every game is pretty different too, making them feel fresh each time.

One thing I like about Ys, is while there’s a little bit in the games of romance or sexy girls, it is actually pretty astonishing how these games never force romance between the main character and all the women. Especially this game Ys VIII, there’s so many moments where you’re sure they’re going that route, and they don’t.

No, the Ys games truly focus on an adventurer and his friends building rapport and saving the world. I’d argue these games have tons of teachable and wholesome moments.

And as the other person said, all the Ys music is brilliant. I have all the music for almost all the games. Love it.

This is a ridiculously good good with insane amounts to do, character development, and story. It’s wild to me how much the original game had and wasn’t DLC or a separate game.

callouscomic,

That’s a neat idea, owning and playing every letter. Most Ys games are on a lot of platforms and great stories, so I wouldn’t think a Vita is necessary unless you really want to. Because they were low production and pricey memory cards.

But the Vita was an amazing piece of hardware for its time, and likely very ahead of its time, and so it holds a special place for me. If only Sony had truly supported it.

callouscomic,

I think you’re right. PSP has 1 & 2 chronicles, Felghana (3), Napishtim (6), and Seven was PSP originally. Though Im unsure how many of those were available digitally so that you could get them on Vita.

Then this game (8) and Celceta (4) were on Vita, as well as a rerelease of Origin on Vita.

Game 5 to date has never been released outside Japan, so 1-8, minus 5 are all theoretically possible on Vita.

It’s all on Steam nowadays too and I also play those on Steam Deck.

callouscomic,

Spoiler about Monstrum Nox and Lacrimosa of Dana.

Tap for spoilerDana technically shows up in Monstrum Nox, and that game kind of continues alluding to themes from Lacrimosa, depending on your interpretation.

callouscomic,

I think most Ys games are slow to start and easy to let go of, but if you hang in there, the stories eventually reach a point at least for me that I can’t stop.
