bouh, do games w What's up with Epic Games?

Epic is the worst of the 3 platforms for a user. It is a drm like steam, but with less games on it, and even less optimized (so even more wasted resources and time loading useless advertising).

Steam has it that is makes game run on Linux smoothly, and the biggest library of games. Gog is drm free. Epic has absolutely nothing a user may want, except for free games so that you are now captive of their shitty platform.

On steam you can try for a few hour and get a refund if you don’t like it. Maybe on gog too.

Forgotten realms is basically the IP for standard fantasy. This is an enormous strength for an IP. Divinity doesn’t have this strength, it doesn’t speak naturally to everyone like this.

Yes it is. Pathfinder made for builders who want to create a character with hundreds of options to choose from. It is rule heavy in the tradition of dnd 3rd edition. Pathfinder 2e is much more refined, but I doubt they went away from this philosophy. It’s still very rule heavy.

bouh, do games w Just an observation on game engines

That’s quite true. A friend told me that the red engine from cdpr is one of the most efficient and we’ll made engine today. It didn’t surprised me because cdpr has been working on it for 2 years after cyberpunk failed to meet the technical requirements they sold it for.

That’s what it takes now for an optimized engine: 2 years on a decade old engine.

bouh, do games w CD Projekt Spent Roughly $125 Million Turning Cyberpunk 2077 Around Post-Launch

The game was far from the disaster media made it look like. Ratings on steam are not so bad even at launch for example.

The game had problems on outdated hardware, which was many consoles that I now think these players to be the audience for most video game media.

Most people had no or few problems to play the game, and the game was great right from the start.

bouh, do games w The games industry sucks

Union is actually mandatory in France if the company is more than 50 people iirc. But depending on the place, and especially in computer related work, very, very few people participate in the union.

Unions often suffer very bad reputation, and people are very often afraid either that they will act against their company interest or antagonise their bosses. I think about 15% of workers are unionised in France.

bouh, do games w The games industry sucks

Video game workers are starting to unionise in France, finally.

The liberal culture of the people working there didn’t help.

bouh, do games w Game prices are too low, says Capcom exec

They sell vastly more games than before. And there isn’t a media anymore. And they should have increased their productivity in all these years.

Video games are not a good. They’re a digital product, a service. The cost is completely decorrelated from the amount you sell. Which is why it is so profitable.

bouh, do games w Game prices are too low, says Capcom exec

It’s funny how it’s “the game’s are not expensive enough” and not “we don’t know how to manage our or money” or “our profit are too high”. Fuck those capitalists.

Oh the stupid shit head “games are 100 times more expensive to make now” but you sell thousands times more and there no physical media anymore is irrelevant I guess… Assholes…

bouh, do games w Dusk: Unpopular opinion: I'd rather pay Valve 30% and put up with their de facto monopoly than help Epic work towards their own (very obviously desired) monopoly

Hahaha like people will fill a bug report everytime a software crash… I wonder whether you’re delusional or blinded by your faith into this piece if shit of a software.

Steam has been working on the steam deck for how long now? 5? 10 years? Gog has that much time to catch up.

And as I said, I don’t deny the role steam played and is still playing for Linux gaming. But it’s still a drm. And that’s something I simply cannot ignore.

I do use steam mind you. But I’ll use and support gog everytime I can. If steam did the most for Linux, gog did and still do the most for players.

“you use it wrong”… Of course… It cannot possibly be the fault of a shitty software and it must be me…

I’m not on low end hardware.

It does crash regularly, or it stops working and you need to restart it, and it always did this kind of thing. The obnoxious “I need to update before you’re allowed to play” is hardly a selling feature. The videos and the adds are both obnoxious and intensive on resources.

Galaxy has its ups and downs, but overall I feel its lighter and much more responsive. The interface is much less cluttered, much more logical and clear. And it’s not a fucking drm.

I thank vavle for what did for Linux gaming. Proton is brilliant and incredibly useful and valuable. But I also despise them for steam being litteraly a DRM. So I will forgive cdpr if they need time to develop galaxy on Linux and I’ll use lutris and heroic game launcher in the meantime.
