Is it really that bad? I finished the series recently and I was kind of hoping that maybe it would be a reasonable interpretation

Muscar,

What?

exscape,
@exscape@kbin.social avatar

Not sure if this is remotely on topic, but I think it's a good interpretation. There are big changes, but the overall plot follows the books well IMO.
There are issues in the books that wouldn't work on TV, at least not outside of China. Not to mention that maybe 90% of the book characters are Chinese. And perhaps over 90% are men. So I'm not at all bothered that there are major character changes.

The court additionally found that four other individuals fell ill as a result of Xu poisoning drinks in the Yoozoo offices between September and December of that same year, citing disputes with two other coworkers. They all survived.

AFKBRBChocolate, w The Best 80s Sci-Fi Movies With Weird Superheroes

I didn’t think The Fly belongs on that list. Just because a movie has someone with special abilities doesn’t make them superheroes. In The Fly, there’s no stopping crime at all in it, in fact he’s closer to a villain, but is more about him going insane. Dead Zone also doesn’t feel like a super hero movie, but he does at least get involved with saving people, so I guess it fits.

AFKBRBChocolate, w Some Hugo Finalist Afterthoughts

Thanks for posting that, it was great. I agree with him, after last year’s shit show, it’s good to see them making good faith efforts to fix things.

I enjoyed Starter Villain, it was fun.

@inkican

It got (quite unfairly imho) generally negative-to-horrible reviews and it did astoundingly bad box office in the US, but I really liked the film when I saw it during its original, brief theatrical run and in fact have been thinking of rewatching it again after all these years. Heck, it’s got Bill Murray!

I don’t understand this blog piece. There’s nothing in the actual article which explains why time is running out to see this film. (Feels like clickbait.)

superfes, w Megalopolis is a sci-fi thriller about an architect who wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating incident

I’ll watch it, why not?

adam_y,
@adam_y@lemmy.world avatar

That’s the spirit. Give it a whirl, see if it does anything for you, and even it iflt doesn’t, it was worth it to learn it didn’t.

Vastly better than making a low effort post somewhere saying, “should I watch this film?”.

superfes,

I’m okay with trying something out, I like some things other people don’t, and vice-versa.

It’s about time they made a sequel. I saw the highway fight scene from the first time a sequel was in the works and honestly its a shame that there hasn’t been a Matrix 2 yet.

aleph, w Denis Villeneuve is doing Dune 3
@aleph@lemm.ee avatar

This is going to be very interesting, as Dune Messiah is a radically different book to Dune. It eschews lot of the action and heroics in favor of discussions of politics and statecraft. Very much a slow-burn compared to book I.

DestroyerOfWorlds, w Denis Villeneuve is doing Dune 3

Hope it is a musical

runswithjedi, w In praise of Super 8

I really enjoyed it when I saw it in the theater. I’ll put it in the list to rewatch. Thanks for reminding me about this one.
