PlayStation Portal will not work with bluetooth headphones
If you’re planning on buying a PlayStation Portal and are wanting to use wireless headphones then I have bad new for you.
The PlayStation Portal does not have Bluetooth so will not work with any Bluetooth headphones. It won’t even work with the existing PlayStation Pulse headset unless you use the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The ONLY way to have wireless audio is to buy either the PlayStation Pulse Elite headset or the Pulse Explore earbuds as they use the new PlayStation Link technology that Sony says supports lossless and near lag free wireless audio.
The Pulse Elite costs £129.99 and the Pulse Explore are £199.99.
By the time you’ve bought a PS Portal and compatible wireless headphones you’ve spent at least £329.98. At that point you may as well either buy a Steam Deck and use PS Remote Play with Bluetooth headphones or spend £99.99 on a Backbone One and use your phone.
Obviously if you don’t care about wireless audio options then none of this is relevant to you and I’m not sure why you’re still here. But it’s still a questionable move by Sony.
