That time I caught a flat on a rail trail after dark with 5km to go so decided to just pump up loads to get me through but I was running these garbage continental tubes with a threaded valve core for some reason and when removing my pump the valve core unthreaded and the pressure blasted it into the darkness so I inflated again and zip tied my pump inside the spokes and it fucking worked. Urge to go tubeless intensifies. @bikes

@christ @bikes This is a hilarious and novel solution. I will say: I really appreciate replaceable valvecores for both tubeless applications and any pumps other than lezyne-style ones. For tubeless, they make it 1000 times easier to refill sealant and get the tube seated with an air compressor.

@smellsofbikes @christ @bikes I understand the benefit of removable cores for tubeless. So why put removable cores on tubes?

Is it really that common to put sealant inside of a tube?

Most tubes that I buy online don't specify if there's a removable core.

@footsteps @christ @bikes I like them because I've had cores stop sealing right and it's nice to be able to pull them apart and clean them.
I also get Conti tubes (which always have them) because I've had so many problems with other tubes splitting along mold lines after 5000 miles and you can't patch those sorts of splits. I've never lost a conti tube to anything but legit punctures.

@christ @bikes That's awesome :-)

I keep a little o-ring sealed presta -> schrader adapter and an o-ring schrader cap in the toolkit, so if the presta valve core starts leaking I can seal it all up with that. Only had to use it once but it's a handy thing to have.

@christ One advice, I guess. It that's not your only bike, you better ride it often. Tubeless doesn't like just sitting around.

I went tubeless once. Lasted for about 3 months and when it was time for a service, the mess it created discouraged me completely from keeping the setup.

Washed the rims, replaced the tires and went back to good old tubes...

@christ @bikes oh yes, I know the pains of unscrewing the valve when trying to unscrew the pump with my Lezyne pump. Hate when that happens.
