mindbleach, w Earth bids farewell to its temporary 'mini moon' that is possibly a chunk of our actual moon

Nobody tell Alan Davies.

Mac, w Check Out the Highest-Resolution Images Ever Captured of the Sun's Entire Surface

Watch on X

I’d rather swim over the Mariana Trench wearing cinder blocks for shoes.

667, w Hubble captures a new view of galaxy M90
@667@lemmy.radio avatar

Somewhen in there are creatures we’d really get along with were it not for the 58.71M light years between our galaxies, and the unlikelihood we both exist as simultaneous civilizations.

o_d, w Event horizon: After photographing black holes, scientists are now making a movie
@o_d@lemmygrad.ml avatar

It begins. The Universe Cinematic Universe.

abcdqfr, w Tiny Black Holes Could Lurk Inside Asteroids, Moons, or Even Planets Like Ours

How tiny? Inside earth tiny?

zout,

As small as event horizon of 1 micron tiny to 1/10 the earth's diameter tiny for this paper.

1stTime4MeInMCU, w ESO VLT discovers new exoplanet around the nearby Barnard star, only 6 light years away.

Aww that’s cute. Barnard’s star has kind of an interesting history of exoplanet claims that were sadly ruled out after further examination. Great to hear we finally have good evidence.

MonkderVierte, w Size Comparison: Pluto and Australia

TIL australia has hydrostatic equilibrium.

niktemadur, w Size Comparison: Pluto and Australia

I’m digging the way the map shows Tasmania as part of the continental plate.

Piemanding,

Is it on purpose or is it because of ocean depth?

niktemadur,

The light blue part is shallow and when it’s underwater, they call it “continental shelf”.
Tasmania and mainland Australia are connected by the same, shared continental shelf.

breadsmasher, w Big bang doesn't exist.
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

What does this post even mean? Did you confuse astronomy with astrology?

wargreymon,

Big bang theory shows up in astronomy, it belongs to astrology instead.

dumbass, w Big bang doesn't exist.
@dumbass@leminal.space avatar

Obviously you’re talking about the big flwop.

Window_Error_Noises, w From a Million Miles Away, NASA Camera Shows Moon Crossing Face of Earth - NASA
@Window_Error_Noises@lemmy.world avatar

Everytime I see this, I can’t help but giggle a little at that magnificent lump, just florpin’ on by, awkward as hell. I love our moon, so much.

Olap, w Planet Nine: Is the search for this elusive world nearly over?

Surely the absence of nine indicates our model of gravity is off. Combined with lack of Dark Matter, is Einstein wrong?

tsonfeir, (edited ) w A New Deep Learning Algorithm Can Find Earth 2.0
@tsonfeir@lemmy.world avatar

I hope the human race is destroyed before we have a chance to infect other planets.

slazer2au,

Don’t worry we all will be long dead before that happens.

pennomi, w The unexpected connection between the northern lights and Hubble’s death

Maybe this will convince NASA to let the Polaris missions reboost Hubble.

Rentlar, w This Is the sound of Mars from 140 million miles

Dry like the Mojave but windy like Chicago.
