xantoxis,

The abstract does a poor job of explaining one of the primary motivations of this research: if Alcubierre drives can exist, and can be built, then it seems likely a sufficiently advanced alien species would have built them. We could therefore find them by detecting the drive failures associated with the hypothetical tech, something which is likely easier than actually building the drives ourselves.

xantoxis,

This is an actual proposed solution to the Fermi Paradox. We’re still relatively early on a universal scale. It’s possible we’re just… first. Or so early that hardly anybody else is out there yet. Could be that a billion years later, advanced life is all over the place.

In your formulation, we would also be the explanation for another species’ dark forest hypothesis…

xantoxis,

Oh, that’s cool, I respect that.

Anyone know offhand their stance on jackbooted thugs kicking in the doors of people who write emulation software and sending them to prison? Just trying to get a pulse on that

xantoxis,

This headline is almost incoherent, I wish they’d stop teaching journalists about newspaper shorthand headlines. We’re not limited to broadleaf sized headlines any more, just put some fucking words in there so it makes sense.

xantoxis,

I just find it weird that you felt compelled to post an explanation for something that is “intuitively and entirely understandable”. It’s almost as if you knew that lots of people couldn’t understand it.

xantoxis,

~ Mysterious ~

I guess it’s true that we don’t know exactly what kind of rock hit the planet and created 2 billion craters from ejecta.

On the other hand, that makes every impact on every planet ~ mysterious ~

clickbaity.

xantoxis,

It doesn’t get balance updates because the sides are virtually identical, it’s not hard when your game design doesn’t take risks

xantoxis,

I’m not saying you’re wrong but… you’re actively wishing for this game to fail on launch so you can feel smug about things you said on the Internet?

Priorities man

xantoxis,

Oh bet, the normal-looking human woman is the most popular? Wild

xantoxis,

I don’t know whether valve has violated anti-trust law or not, and I certainly don’t think gaben deserves any more protection from covid than the general public but;

this is a stupid ruling. Why on earth can’t he appear remotely, as he requested? They can’t “adequately assess his credibility”? Are they gonna have an FBI body language expert on hand? Check his forehead for sweat droplets? There’s nothing they can ask him in person that they can’t ask him over a camera.

Feels like the plaintiffs are doing some kind of lowkey spite thing here, and I’m surprised the judge played along.

xantoxis, (edited )

It has a demo, worth checking out.

Edit: never mind, I guess it doesn’t any more

xantoxis,

I just finished it, then went back for the bonus side quests so I could get the true ending.

I wished the writing was less childish, but like you, I really enjoyed the texture of the characters. They really do Garl right. The original final bossfight is laughably easy if you’ve learned how to use Serai, but the “true ending” final boss is more fun. Overall I’m 4/5 on it.

xantoxis,

OK? We’re bored though. The astronauts had other shit to do.

xantoxis,

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy fewer planets.
