It’s hard not to get excited remembering how we found out about Half-Life 2. It was announced in a magazine that some random guy accidentally got sent a copy of early, then he scanned the pages and leaked it online. I think I was browsing some dodgy Russian website when I found out about it.
Is everyone posting about Oblivion simply new to it? Seems weird to me that everyone’s so excited about it but it’s probably just because I played it to death the last time it came round.
I’m not as against this as everyone else. If you want a AAA game without microtransactions, in-game advertising, and all the other bullshit you get nowadays, you’re gonna have to expect the company will want to make that money up in other places. Games have been like £50/$60 since the N64 days and we’ve been lucky that the prices haven’t risen with inflation.
Imagine if you could go on the Nintendo store and buy a game you couldn’t even run, or had to check a third party website to see if it ran acceptably and let you use all the buttons.
I actually think this is somewhere that AI could help out, just cranking out loads of mundane little features to give a place depth. I’m looking forward to the possibility of games where you can walk around a whole building because it’s all being generated on the fly by AI.
Not op but I’m using Fedora. I installed NVIDIA drivers from the “app store” then downloaded protonqtup, Steam, and Heroic. I’ve only had one game not work, and that’s Deathloop. Everything else is fine.
I’m enjoying the game but it suffers from that problem where the world feels so hollow, like a museum piece and all you can do is observe. It all looks great from a distance and I always want to go places I see far away but when you get there it’s just dead. Buildings you can’t go in, shops you can’t buy from, vendors you can’t talk to. You walk down these bustling side streets with loads of activity and all you can do I buy a taco from a vending machine.
I’m avoiding reading this thread as I don’t want spoilers but I didn’t really enjoy the first one that much and dropped out before finishing. I hear a lot about 2 though, is it worth playing the first one in order to play 2?
