Eh, never hated Wesley back when the show was airing. When the episodes where he’s badly written (and there are many) are spread out over weeks or months, he’s not annoying enough to hate, and he does get some okay writing here and there.
If anything, having a younger crew member helped teenagers and kids find a more relatable character to have an in to the show if they weren’t already fans of TOS and the movies. So in that , even though he was poorly written most of the time, he’s still a valuable character.
Honestly, even back then my impression was that the writers were just crap at writing a believable “gifted” kid. That Wesley was supposed to be even more than gifted didn’t help because getting the kind of personalities that form around kids that really are that much smarter than those around them isn’t exactly a common experience even among gifted kids. The kind of genius that Wesley was described to be is just too rare for even the mensa set to have a lot of experience talking to.
That’s what I think the problem was. You had adults that weren’t used to the kind of intelligence Wesley was supposed to have, and didn’t really remember being Wesley’s age trying to write him. They just used tropes and guesswork to turn him into what amounts to a DMPC, a free check to make bad writing choices via “super genius saves the day” vs “teenager fucks up” mismatches.
Well, as a guy, I’ve been asked multiple times why I systematically play games female characters in video games, to the point of skipping a game if I’m forced to pay a male one, with a few exceptions (I really liked Albus from Troubleshooters for example). Whenever there’s romance in a game, I’ll also take the F/F route....
I dunno, I’ve always made whatever struck me as cool in the moment. No real pattern to it other than wanting the character to look cool on screen while I’m making it. If it turns out later that something in game makes it not look cool, I might not make the same choice on a new character, but it’s still about having something neat to run around on the screen with.
Like, playing Neverwinter back a few years ago, I had one of every class, and between three accounts, some duplicates of a class in different races. I spent a ton of time on that game while I was recovering from a chain of health issues lol.
Anyway, the rogue class was always fun to play, but male dragonborn looked goofy as fuck in higher level armor for that class, so my main rogue was a female dragonborn. My paladin was male human because cheese. But when I was setting the character up, I would just flip back and forth until I was happy with what it looked like.
But, that even applied in table top games in a way. I’d pick sex based on the cool factor rather than playing what I am.
Title. Been using “conventional mouses” since a while, and I’m in the mood to try something new. Even so considering its a ergonomic mouse that won’t screw my wrists even more while gaming(I’m over 40 y/o)....
There is zero point to that beyond the looks. You can get mice with better ergonomics. maybe if it had some ability to be used like a gun in fps games, it would make sense. But as just another mouse? It isn’t even a good gimmick.
These laws will ban rewards for spending money within a game for the first time, ban rewards for buying consecutive microtransactions, and ban rewards for daily log-ins.
This is exactly how things should be done. If anything, him doing it this way succeeds at making me overrated interested in the game, which isn’t one I’d usually go for. Just because he’s doing it the right way.
These could be games that left a lasting impression on you, games that had stellar gameplay mechanics, characters that captivated you, games that you played tons of hours on, etc.
I had the high score at the gas station nearest my house on the pacman machine until the place closed. Nobody could even get close in the local area. I would usually be in the top three at the arcade on both games, depending on whether or not I had access to time and money. None of my scores were high enough to be some kind of record, but I was the king of those two games in two counties. I’m not saying I could never get out-scored, I could. But I never had bad games, only less good, where the other players around would have way more bad than great games.
But I fucking loved pacman. The entire sensory assault of it was so damn satisfying. I was good at centipede (largely because of the trackball being very intuitive for me), but I liked it more because I was good at it than for the game itself.
Pacman though? Fuck, I’d spend hours playing it. I even had one of those old coleco mini versions that I got for Christmas one year. Which, I was not as good at, what with the difference in controls, but I still loved playing it until it died maybe ten years ago (seriously, that fucking thing lasted decades).
I was so fucking bummed when I couldn’t find any place to play the real version. Later console versions didn’t have the same joy for me. I’ve managed to luck into some time on restored machines here and there, though.
Past that, mario cart was big in our house when it came out. My sister was better at it on average, but we’d have some killer weekends playing it with our mom and friends. I never liked consoles much. The controls just didn’t work for me.
So it wasn’t until this century that I got back into harmony gaming at all. Mmorpgs are my thing, when I can do it (disability makes pc gaming sporadic). The first game I found that sucked me in was shaiya. It wasn’t that great of a game overall. Heavily pay to win. But the story was good, and I had a great guild.
Then it was on to war and battle of the immortals. Mid tier games, but I liked the world setting.
Then, I found neverwinter and that was my game. I haven’t been happy with anything else since. I don’t really play any more, but that was the perfect mmo for me. The d&d world, with an intuitive and fun control setup. The classes and races were fairly well balanced. The graphics were fucking bonkers for the era too. It just made me happy. It still kinda does, but I don’t have the time or stamina these days.
