The ones who were there 47 years ago remember it clearly: Han shot first. But in nearly every version of 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope that you can find today, Harrison Ford’s charming smuggler was a little slow to the trigger in his face-off against Greedo — one of the many changes that director George Lucas made to the...
I didn’t realize web browsing in Chrome required fully textured 3D objects. Not to mention playing 720p video with PCM audio in a separate app doesn’t grind everything to a halt.
They’ve made a lot of good peripherals like keyboards, mice, joysticks. Xbox one used to support Kinect and TV tuners which was nice.
The surface line has been interesting, and I’d be tempted to buy one if they didn’t come with Windows 11 (I need to look up if you can install Win 10 on the newer ones).
They came out with some wild stuff during the Sidekick phone days like Microsoft Kin and Zune. But honestly current management doesn’t seem to be interested in anything but boring but profitable software services (like Xbox game pass) that they can charge a subscription for.
Edit: I wish Zelicam hadn’t deleted his comments. They were good questions/conversation.
“Star Bird” — A space ship that made noises when you changed its pitch. It could be put together into a couple of different configurations. It wasn’t tied to any tv show, movie, or comic book.
Micronauts — a time traveling group of futuristic translucent android action figures that had cool vehicles and accessories you could reconfigure like Lego. Some of these floated on water, others had shootable rubber-tipped missiles, and some could be put together to make giant robots. The best set to me was the one I couldn’t afford, but that a friend had. A Logan’s Run style tube train set propelled using a vacuum pump. There later was a comic book series that tried to explain their backstory.
ROM — a silver robot doll with red led eyes that made different noises depending on which of his accessories you attached. Also later had a comic book series that tried to explain it all.
Just finished this A24 feature about a home android and its “memories”. The world building here was really well done and the story was a bit like an old science fiction novel. The background to how this world and its “technosapiens” came to be would probably make a good TV series.
Oh, I dunno. Everyone seems to bitch about Apple not wanting to give any leeway to Epic on the App Store. Personally I find Epic ridiculously hypocritical, so I say let them eat dirt.
