RightHandOfIkaros, do games w I'm so annoyed that they're calling the new hobbit game 'A The Lord of the Rings Game'

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Helldivers 2 community manager says internal discussions are ongoing regarding mandatory PSN account link

I know my $40.00 is pretty important to them, so I thought I would mention it here.

Not gonna lie chief, I don’t think anyone from SIE is on Lemmy. Like, I agree, but also I think nobody who needs to hear you is listening, not because they’re not listening, but because they aren’t here to hear you.

Any true 2D game, because the console was designed for 2D games. The SuperFX chip used for Star Fox was also used for Yoshi’s Island, which did maintain 60Hz.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Helldivers 2 Players Express Frustration On Steam As It Will Soon Require A PSN Account

Needing to run a programm just to launch a different program is stupid. I don’t need a middleman, just let me launch the second program directly.

The best way to stop cheaters is to program the game to be Server Authoritative with Client-side Prediction. If the server does all the math for checking damage, whether someone hit something, speed and position, etc, then the client cannot cheat those values no matter how hard they try. The server will tell everyone else the correct values and the cheater will keep getting reset to what the server says is true. The only kind of cheats you can use on a game like that would be aimbot or wallhacks. But both of those can often be detected using anti-cheat software which acts like a rootkit. So a combination is most often used.

Like I said, I don’t think open source is necessary. If the server binaries are released, then people can run their own private or join someone else’s by IP, just like online games used to work in the 90’s. That is plenty good enough for consumers to keep using what they paid for and takes zero effort on the part of the developer. Its just the reason they don’t is a combination of what I said before and the publisher wanting you to stop playing the old stuff and only buy the new stuff. Nintendo is notorious for this, and one of the reasons my strong dislike for them has been growing.

That was a lot of RAM for the time though.

The Super Nintendo’s interlaced video mode was basically never ever used. It could output 60Hz and more than often did.

Only some games had limited framerate for various reasons, such as Another World being limited by cartridge ram or Star Fox being limited by the power of the SuperFX. Yoshis Island also used the SuperFX and wasn’t limited like Star Fox was. Occasionally there was slowdown if a developer put too much on screen at once, but these were momentary and similar to today when a game hitches while trying to load a new area during gameplay.

I don’t think they need to release the source code. They could pay some developers to edit the functions of code that contact the server to work offline, or more preferrably, just release compiled binaries for the server so that consumers can run their own private servers after the game officially hits EoS.

Some companies reuse code from previous games in their new games, in fact I’d say it would be stupid for them not to. Obviously if they released source code then they are making it that much easier for cheaters in their newer games.

Atari is Infogrames. Theyre the same company just skinwalking as Atari.

Nah, companies have been doing similar practices for ages. Its just they’re being more public about it now.

So basically they shut down their games actively being developed or games like NieR Reincarnation (I am legitimately upset they did not patch it to work offline, that was a great game that died yesterday) just so they could claim a loss. This is likely for tax reasons, if I had to guess.

RightHandOfIkaros, do gaming w Gacha gamers: which is your favourite disappointment simulator and why?

I enjoy Super Mecha Champions. It is a gacha game, but its gameplay is actually pretty good. Its a battle royale where you can summon mecha mid-battle. Not a whole lot of players these days, but TDM is bussin around 2pm PST and every week has two pinnacle games where players compete for a special title that expires each week.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection used modder's work without credit

The original was not EA. It was Pandemic Studios, who released Battlefront 1 and 2 both before they were acquired by Electronic Arts between 2007- 2009.

RightHandOfIkaros, do gaming w Nvidia’s AI-powered NPCs are getting better, but still sound uncanny

It will be interesting for sure, but let’s not fool ourselves into believing that NPCs with AI behaviours will be better in all cases like modern game players seem to with open world game design.

Not every game needs an open world, and in some cases open world game design can end up doing more harm than good. This will be something that developers should look at on a game by game basis, and not a default plugin that everyone uses for every NPC in their game.

RightHandOfIkaros, do gaming w Activision Blizzard workers speak out after Bobby Kotick’s CEO exit

Bobby going to Bungie is only an uncomfirmed rumor.

However, I will never forgive Bungie.

  • They did Marty and Joe dirty, Marty by trying to rescind his company shares and Joe for the way Jason Jones treated him in Destiny 1s developement
  • They absolutely ruined Destiny 1 and 2, though 2 far more than 1
  • They deleted content that I paid for without my permission, removing my ability to choose to access it (this is when I stopped playing Destiny altogether)
  • They’re tarnishing Marathon’s good name by making it a PvEvP extraction looter shooter
  • “We want you to throw money at the screen” famous quote (they really thought it was a good idea to say that)

If Bobby does become CEO there, I would not be surprised. But I actually dont think its possible for Bungie to get any lower.
