Square just reported an underwhelming quarter, so I am not gonna be surprised if they announce a remaster/re-release of an old classic to milk their fan base.
Nothing wrong with that of course, but I get the impression it will be a cheap and rushed remaster, with simple upscaling and maybe some built in cheats; $40 please! ($60 with the pre-order bonuses).
That all said, if it does turn into a complete remake I am sure they will turn the story into a convoluted mess with alternate dimensions and time travel.

Additionally Square needs to stop releasing games exclusively to a single platform, no wonder Rebirth sales haven’t been released as many (including myself) are waiting for the PC release.
Mainly waiting for PC release so I can use mods to shut Chadley up, and turn off all the anime grunting.
It’s no different than putting famous people in movie voice acting roles. If they can voice act well it works (Eartha Kitt as Yzma) but often it’s just a sad attempt at generating hype (Chris Pratt as Mario).

he doesn’t like it as when it first started to be used it felt like it was “a discriminatory term.” It’s an understandable point of contention, as while the genre is quite popular now, go back a couple of decades you’d find plenty of people being rude about the games just because they were Japanese.
Didn’t square back in the day make “dumbed down” versions of their games for the west, because they assumed we were all too dumb to play them correctly (Looking at you FF4 easy mode). I get his point but that was discrimination too.
