Ganbat, (edited ) do games w The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion

My friends finally got me to play Fortnite a few weeks ago.

I’m in too deep.

I’m level 157…

Ganbat, do games w Nvidia's cross-game modding tools RTX Remix now in open beta

Yeah, that’s it. Unfortunately, AMD isn’t being well developed for. It’s just that, Nvidia doesn’t have to be the only viable option for RT, but because they have the funding and initiative, it’s been allowed to become so. RTGL1 is just an example for how it can work for AMD as well, assuming the renderer supports AMD-equivalent functions.

Worse, the release of an Nvidia-only toolkit like this is gonna cause a lot of pain with this in the future.

“AMD’s cards have faster and better ray tracing than Nvidia now? Man, that’s cool, but I’ve got, like, ten games running on RTX Remix, and they don’t support things like FSR.”

Reminder that even if AMD’s ray tracing isn’t as advanced, alternative, cross-platform solutions such as RTGL1 do could work very well on both Nvidia and AMD cards.

Edit: Clarified, these things do work well, but only where they work. Point meant to be, if anyone but NVidia was doing this, it wouldn’t have to fracture PC gaming so badly.

Ganbat, do games w What's up with Epic Games?

Well, I have four big ones:

  • System scanning: EGS is known to automatically scan your system and send your data back to them. While this seems to be the same type of analytics Steam does occasionally, in Steam’s case, it’s opt-in, and done with full, informed consent.
  • Paid exclusives: Epic has been known to pay publishers to make their games artificially exclusive to their own store. They regularly claim this money is to support the development of the games in question, but this is easily disproven, as they’ve been seen buying games known to be complete more than once. Additionally, this has resulted in bait-and-switch-like situations, where users would prepurchase Steam copies of games, only to be informed that they wouldn’t be getting them.
  • Publisher-centric behavior: Another user here claimed that EGS is pro-developer and anti-consumer, but this is only half true. This only rings true in the case of self-published games. There have been cases of developers getting unwarranted backlash after aforementioned bait-and-switches, when they were just as surprised to learn about all the “development support” they received as anyone.
  • Tim Sweeney: Tim Weeney, the CEO of Epic, is an asshole. A giant, narcissistic, hateful shitbag. Just look at his Twitter, the dudes a giant POS.
Ganbat, do gaming w I don't miss PS2-era level design.

Damn, I don’t remember that part at all.

Ganbat, (edited ) do games w Recreation of online functionality of GTA V for PS3 and Xbox 360

They’ve really picked up with that shit lately, so I give this a month.

Ganbat, do games w Sergiy Galyonkin (Steam spy) announces departure from Epic Games

Damn, I forgot Steam Spy existed.

Ganbat, (edited ) do games w Ion Fury Aftershock - Release Date Trailer

Apparently I’m out of the loop, what happened?

Edit: Got to a point that I could look it up. My favorite part is where the devs felt so strongly about their god given right to call people f**s that they said people should just pirate the game instead. Awesome. Not completely disgusting at all.

Ganbat, do games w Mirror's Edge - Rainy Mod Project

This game is moddable?

Ganbat, do games w Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2: This. Is. Epic. Drop in to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 on Steam, October 3

Publishers have been known to add that info one or two days before release in the past.

Ganbat, do games w VR still makes 40-70% of players want to throw up, and that's a huge problem for the companies behind it

I’ve used VR a few times, and I can confirm that the only part that makes me throw up is the price tag.

Ganbat, do games w Seeking Constructive Dialogue on Mod Removals: Stereotyping Doesn't Help

“Why should it be removed?”
Because it hurts real people.

“But shouldn’t people be able to modify the game as they want?”
Sure, they can do it themselves, but no one has to host content that causes real-world harm.

“But why draw the line at this mod?”
See answer 1.

Ya know, I love it when people like you use “civil discussion” as a mask, because it’s always the most transparent thing ever. Your real goals are always on your sleeve, but you just keep pushing the same things over and over again so that, in the end, you can say “Look, I was civil, they weren’t!”

Do you know what gives you away? It’s the way no answer you ever receive is satisfactory. It’s never enough. And it’s usually cyclical, too, which is exactly the behavior you’ve displayed here.

Ganbat, do games w Seeking Constructive Dialogue on Mod Removals: Stereotyping Doesn't Help

It should be pretty simple here.

“Does it serve any purpose other than excluding people? No? Remove it.”

Ganbat, do piracy w Youtube - like apps like piped.video, but as Android app?

NewPipe, NewPipe + Sponsorblock, PipePipe and LibreTube are pretty much all of them.

Ganbat, do games w Nexus Mods Fine With Bigots Leaving Over Removed Starfield ‘Pronoun’ Mod

Well, if you’re paying for premium, you’re still part of the site’s profit, part of which goes to the mods you use, so either way shouldn’t matter.
