Even my local supermarket has like ‘258 vendors and affiliates’ as their cookie listing.

Can you imagine shopping in person there, and the entire supermarket packed to the gills with dudes in trenchcoats and magnifying glasses, taking a peak at the exact product that I might consider buying? That’s what they’re doing. Fuck all that bullshit.

God I miss Quake. That was such a great series. Can you imagine what they could do with that on modern tech? I’d love to see a quake reboot a la 2016 Doom. That would be fucking awesome.

I honestly don’t mind some story in games. Heck, I’ve got hundreds of hours in Skyrim and other RPG’s. Doom to me is run & gun. Doom 2016 had the perfect amount of story for a Doom game.

Honestly, I don’t think there’s anything else quite like it. If there is, I don’t know it. Most other shooters are either COD, SciFi, retro FPS or stuff like Borderlands that leans into comedy.

If this was ‘back in the day’, closest recommendation to it would likely be something like the Quake series. That’s id’s own successor to the original Doom. Sadly also long dead.

Honestly, Doom Eternal really soured me on the franchise. I loved the original Doom games, loved 3 and played the absolute shit out of Doom 2016.

Then Eternal turned into a fucking frustration fest with all its platforming. I still haven’t finished it. Now the new one reinvents Doom yet again. And there’s somehow dragons?

Man, I’m fucking done. Give me more of that 2016 Doom or don’t bother.

Well, the fact is that there are also a LOT of dumb customers willing to buy crap. God knows why.

Just look at the trending / best selling lists on Steam. There’s shit on there that I wouldn’t play if you paid me. Yet somehow there’s enough of a customer base for that that they sell it.

Honestly, Steam should look into setting a minimum quality level for things sold on the platform.

It would also be great if devs added things during development that should simply be there at launch. Instead of that, shit gets rushed out the door with promises of future fixes and updates. And then devs get all huffy when people rightfully ask for things to be added that are supposed to be basic launch features…

@FinishingDutch@lemmy.world avatar

They’ll make it back in HOURS, especially if it launches on PC same day. I went to the V night launch way back when. There were 500+ people in line at the store I went to. I didn’t sleep for three days after getting it. The hype train is only getting started and will ramp up to supersonic once we get a firm date. I’ll be buying a copy for every platform that I own. It’s going to be sheer fucking pandemonium.

That guy has NO CLUE whatsoever in terms of GTA hype and popularity.

Companies need to grow a spine. Good games sell regardless of what’s out. If your confidence in your own game is so low that you’d push it to a slow release date, it’s probably not worth playing anyway.

I’m definitely not feeling it.

I loved Doom 2016, and was annoyed as fuck when Eternal had all that silly, aggravating platforming. And this trailer feels like it’s drifting further and further from what I consider to be Doom.

I loved 2016. So did everyone else. Why can’t we just have more of that? It’s not rocket science, you fuckheads.

FinishingDutch, do games w What are your favorite 1000+ hour games?
@FinishingDutch@lemmy.world avatar

Apart from Flight Simulator 2020 and DCS, I absolutely love games like Euro Truk Simulator 2 and Snowrunner. I put ungodly amounts of hours into those. Especially ETS 2 is incredibly relaxing. No pressure, just a lovely drive. It’s definitely not for everyone though.

FinishingDutch, do games w What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from?
@FinishingDutch@lemmy.world avatar

I am aware of that excellent video, yes. And indeed I’ve played literally every game he shows there. I really like some of them, but none have that charm that actual Outrun has.

@FinishingDutch@lemmy.world avatar

Outrun. The last one we had, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, was fucking awesome. I literally bought that for every system they released it on. It’s one of my most played games.

I’d absolutely love a new Outrun in that same vein. There’s been a few half decent clones over the years, but none match both the gameplay, proper branching paths and overall vibes.

SEGA has long since stopped selling it because they no longer have the Ferrari license for the cars. But as a car guy, I’ve easily got dozens of suggestions what to replace them with. Ferrari’s are nice… but I’d also love an Outrun with Lamborghini, Porsche or a whole pack of Japanese cars like NSX, AE86, RX7, Miata…

Borderlands is a straight up dopamine injection for my brain. You shoot someone, damage numbers go up, brain gets all happy. It’s dumb, but I fucking love it. I also love the writing, the characters, the level designs… it’s exactly the type of gaming comfort food that I enjoy.

Moar Borderlands!

When you can pack the peak amount of players into a decent sized ballroom, that’s never a good sign for your game’s future.

At this point they’re probably better off just refunding buyers and shuttering the game entirely. Doesn’t feel like this is a salvageable situation.

FinishingDutch, do games w Helldivers 2 Players Express Frustration On Steam As It Will Soon Require A PSN Account
@FinishingDutch@lemmy.world avatar

Well that’s certainly one way to kill a game. Heck, I HAVE a PS5, and I still would be annoyed as fuck by that.

Sure, you can offer to link an account for things like progress tracking. But it certainly shouldn’t be forced on anyone.
