Issues with the current free to play model (The Bazaar)

I’ve recently seen a lot of videos from Hearthstone creators about the game The Bazaar created by an ex-hearthstone creator. They are selling closed beta access for around $30 for the basic pack, which gives you and a friend access to the game, as well as enough premium currency to unlock the three currently available heroes....

Didros,

Sorry, you can also earn Gems in ranked which you use to unlock heroes which are something like $25 each currently. Which is so much money. I miss when you bought a game for a flat fee and played it as much as you wanted to.

Didros,

“We need to simplify” indie games are doing just fine. It’s almost like super massive studios take much more money to make games with less replay value.

And who expects cinematic masterpieces? Most gamers skip the cutscenes and all dialog lol

Studios make the games pretty for pre sale hype. Getting people interested without game play.

Didros,

Yeah, “most” seems strong now, but there is enough discourse online to say it isn’t uncommon.

Didros,

Your ability to be scared has more to do with your ability to be immersed in the game. Some people need outlast and some people only need minecraft. But also if you play amnesia as it was intended it is very scary. You can also run around a table repeatedly and get a good look at tge monster if you are not in the “horror mood” nothing is scary.

Video Game Developers Are Leaving The Industry And Doing Something, Anything Else - Aftermath (aftermath.site)

Remember, every time you read about 10, or 100, or 1000 layoffs in the video game industry, they’re not cold statistics. Every one of those figures is a person. A life that has been upended, with enormous consequences for not just the individuals directly involved but their family and friends. Every single person affected by...

Didros,

And there are millions of people lining up for jobs that suck that LITTLE to work at. That is how our world functions. It chews people up and spits them out.

Funny how much we hear about it in the video game industry, but every school closure loses teachers. Every hospital lay off looses nurses. Every time capitalism grinds people into dust, those people are dust now.

Didros,

You’ll need to watch YouTube videos and transcribe it yourself I imagine.

Didros,

Gonna add another vote for osrs. Very good mobile game for when you wanna mine the coal rocks and make number go up. :)

Didros,

If you like unintended ways to play games then check out all of the great OSRS youtubers like Settled who made an account in runescape where he locked himself to one region of the map and didn’t allow himself to use a bank. A lot of fun is had in self imposed challenges around those parts.

PlayStation 5 Pro ‘Project Trinity’ Details And Release Date (keytogaming.com) angielski

PS5 Pro is expected late 2024, with the PS6 expected 2028. If Microsoft is to try to keep pace, as someone who doesn't have either console, it will be interesting to see if they also brand this as a mid-generation refresh or if they stick to their guns they've been touting for a while of being "beyond generations".

Didros,

Am I the only one still with a ps3? I bought enough games and Blu rays and pretty much have not bought much since then. If they are still re-releasing things that came out on ps1 when I was a kid then if I just keep my old stuff I’ll have half of the ps6 releases on ps3 lol

What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...

Didros,

Welp, I tried to find the video for like an hour with no luck. But I think it was made by the Rocket Jump guys at some point. It was a live action video of a video game like fps where there are two teams. One person spawns on each team and goes on to the map, trade gun fire until one dies then time resets and another person spawns on each side, BUT the other player still does what they did last round, runs out and trades gun fire. But the newly spawned guy kills the enemy that shot tge first spawn guy before that happens. Breaking the first spawn guy out of his preset loop, and they are now coordinating.

Very cool concept. If anyone knows the video please help me find it. Told a friend about it yesterday. Must have been filmed at least 8 years ago now.

Didros,

I have a real knack for finding amazing games that will die soon or just died. I’ll add this to the pile of hellgate London, runescape chronicles, and that 3v3 moba that you could play on any web browser.

Thanks for the link though!

Didros,

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Didros,

It is not a normal suggestion because the base game is probably the most pay to win mmo that has lasted more than a year or two. But both versions of Runescape (both old school and Runescape 3) have a game mode called ironman mode.

Ironman mode is an official account type that you can create where you can not trade other players items or money. Everything is earned and gathered yourself. If you want to make a bow you need to gather the flax to spin a bow string and chop logs to fletch an unstrung bow and then string it.

It is a slower mmo with most skills in the game having methods to train where you don’t need to pay much attention and you can mostly watch youtube.

Both games also have very mechanically different and difficult combat encounters you can work your way up to.

Maxing out every skill in the game takes year(s) to do and there are hundreds of incredibly unique quests that in my own opinion set the bar for mmo questing. There are no kill 30 boar quests or fetch quests (really) they are mostly very in depth stories with character archs and so much lore if you are into that.
