Catoblepas,

I read an article about a leather artist who recycled secondhand Gucci (I think? It was a big name fashion brand is all I recall) bags into wallets and things like that, and despite everything being clearly labeled to make sure nobody could mistake it for an official product, they had a similar experience. I wish I could find the article again, because I don’t remember what came of it and my search skills are failing me.

Catoblepas,

Plenty of times someone’s sexuality is held above someone’s head, quite literally in the case of this casual fishing game where I feel it doesn’t even slightly belong

As a gay dude with a rainbow hat IRL this made me lol. I’m not wearing it to pick people up, I’m wearing it because I’m not ashamed of who I am. It’s not any different from wearing a wedding ring, couples shirts, or any of the million other displays of heterosexuality that you see and don’t think anything about.

PS: even if you are gay, internalized homophobia is a thing. Feeling that it’s super inappropriate to mention that you’re gay unless you want to fuck someone falls under that.

Catoblepas,

It’s okay to take context into account and not just look at it as a math problem. Targeting a minority isn’t the same as doing it to people who make up 90% of society but are whiny.

Catoblepas, (edited )

I mean, are straight people who are normal about it clamoring for the title to begin with? This seems like a problem invented basically entirely by the whiners. You could just as easily say it affects gay people who want an ironic title, or straight trans people, but for obvious reasons the whiners don’t really care about that.

All that said I have no idea what the price tag means in terms of gameplay time to acquire it. If it’s unachievable without 10 hours of grinding or something that’s a little mean, but not enough that I really care.

(Edit: accidentally a word)

Catoblepas,

Friend, I am trans, I could reproduce if I wanted to with a dude (I absolutely do not want to). I’m also already married to a gay man, so my rainbow hat is not to pick people up, it’s to cover up my balding head. :p

Catoblepas,

I think the decades of family and social pressure telling me that my appearance defined my self worth which I experienced when I was raised as a girl is the reason I wear a hat to cover my balding head, thanks for asking!

Catoblepas,

The names make a little more sense in Japanese as a pun; warui means bad, and Luigi is spelled Ruigi in katakana. So Waruigi is bad Luigi.

Catoblepas,

Wow what a blast from the past, I remember having to help my sister play this game when she was little.

Catoblepas,

If the game is dog shit the people crying about it being woke will still be the idiots. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Catoblepas,

Not sure I’d consider things like the ability to make your character trans a symptom of anything other than the game being made in the 21st century.

Long Dark dev criticises Manor Lords for lack of updates, Hooded Horse CEO replies that not every game needs to be "some live-service boom or bust" (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Interesting thoughts about how to define success for video games in today’s market, particularly for those using early access. Lots of respect for Hooded Horse’s CEO, Tim Bender, he says all the right things and seems genuine....

Catoblepas,

Yeah, Rimworld was in early access for 5 years and was worth the price the entire time IMO. Project Zomboid has been in early access for over a decade! If you just blanket ignore early access games you’re cutting yourself off from some excellent games.

Catoblepas,

The news coverage it’s subsidizing is… not always good. Article is a year old, but little has improved.

Catoblepas,

I wonder if this had something to do with it as well? Thank you guys for cleaning it up either way 🙏

Catoblepas,

At least the police haven’t gotten involved yet unlike the case of the police in the UK actually spending money and resources investigating a rape that took place in a VR game

🚩🚩🚩

Police in the UK are investigating the simulated sexual assault of a real child that happened through VR. The child had no reason to expect this was going to happen. You don’t have to be touched to be sexually harassed, which is a crime.

Maybe you would like to explain why it’s important to be able to simulate sexually assaulting a real child in VR and why the police shouldn’t investigate that.

Catoblepas,

Because in VR unlike real life you can turn it off and that’s exactly what she should have done.

Is that your final answer for why it’s important to keep it legal to simulate raping an actual child in VR without warning?

You can hang up a phone, should it be legal for someone to simulate raping you over the phone?

You are spreading misinformation. Current rape laws do not cover this.

And why are you blaming the parents for something strangers on VR did without warning and in violation of the TOS?

Catoblepas,

Why are you explaining what the law about rape is to me when you are the one and only person in this thread claiming it is being investigated as a rape? It isn’t. Repeating it over and over without citation isn’t going to make it true.

It also doesn’t change that sexual harassment is a crime. They don’t get a free pass to say whatever creepy shit they want to a child just because they stopped short of rape.

It’s bullying at the very most.

Could you confirm for me right quick that you’re saying simulating the rape of a child in VR isn’t sexual harassment? Because that’s what it sounds like you’re saying.

Catoblepas,

Almost none of the profit made off AAA games goes to the people actually creating the game. They don’t get a bonus if the new Madden makes $10 mil more than the old one. You’re tossing hundreds at the CEOs and saying it’s worth it if the devs get a few pennies.

Many of them probably aren’t even at the same studio anymore by the time you’re buying the game.

Catoblepas,

I got into Voices of the Void recently and am enjoying it. I love sims and the idea of a sim about looking for signals from alien life grabbed me.

Catoblepas,

I’ve been watching a few streamers play this game, and the pixel art animations are honestly amazing. Every time a new cut scene is triggered it’s just delightful to watch.

Catoblepas,

Have you heard of Hardspace: Shipbreaker? If anything it’s the opposite of a crafting-building game, it’s a disassembly game! It’s set in space and has a nice plot about corporate greed. And you have to manage your oxygen in space, so arguably it’s like diving, haha.

Another game I liked that’s made by a small studio is Carrion. You play as a The Thing-esque monster that has to kill, grow, and solve different puzzles to escape the lab it was created in. Very gory but fun.
