Beyond Shadowgate, the sequel to the console version of Shadowgate, launches on Sept 19th! (www.zojoi.com) angielski

The original design of the never-before seen point and click adventure is being brought to life after 30+ years in the vault – Beyond Shadowgate! The game is being created by the designers of the original 8-bit hit Shadowgate and a leading 8-bit adventure studio! With a story that is over four times larger than Shadowgate,...

ByteOnBikes,

Tbh I’ll be surprised it this gets any upvotes.

But I grew up with this series on the ol’ 8-bit Nintendo. And if you search for it online, there’s NO news story about this. I found it because I have a calendar reminder to visit their Kickstarter every few weeks.

The game looks great!

Hopefully this gets them some Lemmy attention and gets them some marketing.

ByteOnBikes,

I recently played the 2014 version and thought it was fantastic! Apparently it was released with bugs during launch, which gave it a lot of bad reviews.

At the end of the game, it prompted the Kickstarter, which how I learned about it!

ByteOnBikes,

I never played that one! Would you recommend it?

ByteOnBikes,

My wife, kids and I play video games together by sharing the controller.

We were playing classic SNES games together. Like playing Super Mario World or Super Metroid. My youngest isn’t really good at bosses so he hands it off to his older siblings. Where my wife likes to draw various scenes from the game so we can color them later.

It started during the pandemic but we do it once a month now and it’s been a great family bonding experience.

ByteOnBikes,

You don’t watch a military movie and trash talk movie goers, threaten to bang their mom and then do a teabag motion when someone dies?

ByteOnBikes,
ByteOnBikes,

Outside of sports games & racing games, and Death Stranding & Monster energy drinks, what other games have ads?

Not being argumentative. I’m a PC gamer and I’m actually curious if there’s like Pizza Hut ads while playing God Of War on a console or something!

ByteOnBikes,

The movie Everything Everywhere All at Once really brought a tear to my eye. It ignored a lot of “safe” conventions and just went all in on making a really good film.

ByteOnBikes,

Diablo Immortal made a depressing amount of money.

Us sweats mean nothing when there’s a billion dollars on the table for them.

And this isn’t even a edgecase. Even Bethesda/Nintendo saw their mobile games print money more than their regular games. Fortunately they have souls and think about their core audience.

Why Do People Still Play Destiny 2? angielski

With the release of “The Final Shape,” the main storyline has concluded, and it seems like the developers are now just churning out random content and seasonal passes without a clear direction for the game’s future. I’m genuinely curious about what motivates players to stick around. Are there aspects of the game that...

ByteOnBikes,

The gunplay is SO good. There’s just something about the way it feels that makes it so distinct from any other shooter.

I haven’t touched Destiny in two years. And every shooter I played (first person and the gears of war third person), nothing has yet scratched my Destiny 2 itch.

ByteOnBikes,

When I was looking, 8bitdo seemed like a major recommendation online in all the forums. You’re like the first person that recommended it in real time.

ByteOnBikes,

They made me sad with Diablo 3. But they lost me at StarCraft 2.

D3 got better after years of updates. StarCraft 2’s story was hot garbage and they turned a single full game into three smaller games.

Seeing Blizzard fuck over Overwatch fans was not a surprise to me.

ByteOnBikes,

I didn’t know it was that developer. I’ve been excited to get it after reading reviews. To hear it’s from the Gunpoint developer, I’m so on board!

ByteOnBikes, (edited )

I’m probably in the minority here.

After loving GTA 3 and Vice City and San Andreas, I strongly disliked GTA4. Story was fine, but they really went hard on terrible controls and boring missions.

GTA5 apparently “fixed it” by making the driving more arcade-like, but I forced myself to finish it to get to the ending. Flying was a bore. And again, boring missions.

Maybe I just like the more zany wacky open-world chaos that Just Cause, Mercenaries, or Saints Row provides.

ByteOnBikes,

Might I recommend Doom Infinite mod?

I’m blown away by its creativity

ByteOnBikes,

Yep nailed it.

One of the reasons I hate reddit gaming communities is if you recommend games, the top five comments on all of these threads are always the damn same.

ByteOnBikes,

I really can’t handle the RPGMaker look of it.

I’m willing to give it a try though

ByteOnBikes,

I like this stuff and I wanted to get either this or Super Dungeon Maker.

But kinda hard to pick a side since they both look like they have overlapping small communities. And games like this, communities are the only reason to play.

ByteOnBikes,

I’ve bought so many Survivor games and many are so bad.

This one looks like it’s trying something unique. I’ll take it for a spin.

ByteOnBikes,

Absolutely love this game. It has all the energy of SNES games of my youth. It’s one of the few games I’ve replayed after beating.

Downvoted.

ByteOnBikes,

Ah yes, a game that taunts me about my shitty regex-fu.

After a decade, I don’t think I’ll ever remember how to regex without a cheat sheet.

ByteOnBikes,

Link doesn’t seem to work for me because the parentheses breaks the link.

Here’s the steam link for anyone else

ByteOnBikes,

Sold.

ByteOnBikes,

Steam Deck absolutely changed my habits. I played more Elden Ring on it than I have my high end gaming PC. It’s just more convenient to turn on a play. Where lately, my gaming PC distracts me with emails, YouTube, random kinks like it can’t see my controller.

I don’t think Ill ever buy a gaming PC anymore and might fully switch to buying Steam Decks every few years.

ByteOnBikes,

I was disappointed that I spent time crafting my sausage but at no point in the game was I allowed to waggle it around to show dominance.

ByteOnBikes,

I won’t stop until we allow slutty costumes for all body types.

ByteOnBikes,

While you were over there playing your folklore Monkey game, doing your Fortnite dances, and trying to be Elden Lord, I was here studying the blade enjoying Starfield loading screens.

ByteOnBikes,

At my age, I’m kinda amazed how many games come out that are incredible. I still haven’t played half of the best games of 2023. So I have hope that Bethesda will do a Fallout 76 and suddenly Starfield is awesome.

If it doesn’t happen, that’s okay too. by that time, I’ll have to play the best games of 2024, 2025… Etc.

ByteOnBikes,

Totally get it. I forced myself to play the “quests” and ended up loving just playing house. It really lacks a strong overarching story beyond killing mutated dragons and getting buddy buddy with the factions.

ByteOnBikes,

Rock paper Shotgun absolutely sprinkles their British personality into everything. It’s why people like me continue to subscribe.

ByteOnBikes,

Core memory right here.

I love the Wario games because they were so chill. You were a invincible protagonist whose goal was solving puzzles and getting money.

ByteOnBikes,

Those cookies are absolutely disgusting. I can’t help myself but eat like the whole container.

Just sugar cookie frosting crack.

Then I end up convulsing on the floor from sugar overload.

ByteOnBikes,

But If I’m amputated I don’t have to work anymore and I can eat more sugar cookies and N64.

ByteOnBikes,

I thought I was crazy while i was reading.

I write like this on my personal notes. Maybe the author was doing the same and didn’t expect it to get shared.

Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer) angielski

Hi all, I know this question has probably been posted on the internet millions of times, yet I would like to receive some Lemmy-oriented answers. :) What are your favorite places, websites, or creators for discovering new games in your favorite genres?

ByteOnBikes,

I think I’m on the cutting edge of game releases, mostly focused on indie games. I have a huge Steam collection. This is also my nerd hobby.

Im subscribed to a bunch of game sales (like isthereanydeal) and casually browse steam pages every few days. I often play a genre then search for “games like X”. Lately it was metroidvania games. I found a game called Rabi-Ribi, which looks really uncomfortable to play. But the reviewers said to skip the dialog and ignore the loli, because it has really strong game mechanics. (And it does!)

Searching for indie games using steamdb with under 5000 reviews (lately I’ve been searching for games under 500 reviews), and checking them out.

I also make indie games as a hobby (nothing fancy!), so I like to look for inspiration from other indie game developers.

Lastly, Rock Paper Shotgun or Giant Bomb covers any big budget games I should know about.

ByteOnBikes,

I bought the DLC a month ago and chip away at the game whenever the kids are asleep. I’ve spent 80 hours already and nearing the finish line. It’s crazy.

ByteOnBikes,

I remember absolutely being a fanboy in the 90s. It was so much better than it’s rivals like EGM and GamePro.

But around 2005, either I aged out of it or the magazine got worse. Then I remember GameStop giving it for free at some point. I just remember it being a shell of a shell of a magazine, as the rest of the gaming industry moved to gaming blogs.

ByteOnBikes,

You’re totally right.

I was in middle school when I had fond memories of gaming mags, and that’s probably when I was the most infatuated by the publications.

And by high school (2000s) it was getting weird and slowly dropping off.

At some point was the whole Kotaku gamergate BS and completely checked out of gaming news because it wasn’t just weird, but then it got real racist/sexist.

ByteOnBikes,

Maybe not a pushover, but I died an embarrassingly large number of times.

In Elden Ring, some of the evergaols and bosses wandering the worldmap were harder than actual bosses. Ringleader’s Evergaol took me like 10 tries.

The dancer in DS3 made my wife and kids check up on me.

ByteOnBikes,

Shame since I really wanted a Sims competitor. Sims 4 is a mess of a game.
