Broken_Monitor,

It’s not even that hard. I seriously was bracing for some ridiculous bullshit based on the response but I haven’t struggled at all through it. Sometimes I do hit a hard boss and explore to come back later, but nothing insurmountable. I still have yet to finish but Sekiro still makes this games seem like a walk in the park. Hell, all the Dark souls games are far harder too.

Broken_Monitor,

I guess that’s the thing really, is all you gotta do is recognize you can go somewhere else. Come back and practice the hard part occasionally. Go find more scadu fragments, new weapons, spells, tools, experiment a little. Hell if you really need go respec and make a focused build. Or summon people to help you. There’s so many options, I hit some hard stuff but it never felt like a brick wall.

Broken_Monitor,

Fuckin laaaaaaaaaaaame. I want a roll back option on this. If your gonna rebalance it for everyone crying just give them the “Im afraid to die mode”

Broken_Monitor,

I likely will run my RL1 guy through it at some point. Man I really hit a nerve with the participation trophies for everyone crowd here, didn’t I?

Broken_Monitor,

I don’t, they are right, I can create my own challenge. It’s not really what I’m annoyed about either, its the whole design by a committee of vocal internet people which results in the same bland shit over and over. Part of what made these games cool is the things that are unique, and often times the most memorable moments are also the most difficult. Seeing From pivot because a bunch of people whined about it is just disappointing really. There was a time where the tag line for Dark Souls was “Prepare to Die”, but come down the line to Elden Ring and you can really feel how they’ve softened that edge up. The DLC feels like they sharpened the blade for its final outing, and people want it dulled immediately. To me that’s boring. Embrace the challenge and what you will remember and be satisfied by is overcoming it.

Broken_Monitor,

Yeah that’s a potentially endless discussion right there. I actually think Sekiro was the hardest, even if it’s technically not a souls game. Part of what makes Elden Ring so easy is the number of tools and abilities to use, the summoning ashes, OP spells, and nearly always being able to summon two helper players for tough fights. Melania is so much like fighting Isshin, I think he’s way harder than her, and especially because you have to nail the timing with him. There’s no respeccing, using cheesy spells, or summoning help with that guy. Don’t get me wrong, Elden Ring is a great game, but most of the difficulty is easily overcome by just trying out the other stuff you can use.

Broken_Monitor,

Yeah I’ll believe that when they release the transcript of what he said to the minor

Broken_Monitor,

I’m guessing a fair number of them don’t even know how to get to him, or that he exists. Definitely far from the hardest boss in the game

Broken_Monitor,

Try out Empire of the Undergrowth, it just left early access this week.

Broken_Monitor,

Oh thank miscellaneous diety. For fucks sake everything Microsoft touches turns to shit, especially when it comes to game platforms.

Broken_Monitor,

For games as a whole, I will go way back to Medal of Honor: Frontline. All the Medal of Honor games are about war (mostly WW2) but this one really stuck with me for its depiction of storming the beach on D-Day. You really did have to sprint from cover to cover where there was barely any while soldiers around you get mowed down by MGs from the bunkers ahead. It was intense and one wrong move would have you annihilated. There’s definitely a long list of military shooters depicting battlefields where you work your way through from cover to cover, but this one was one of the earliest I can think of that did it well, depicted a real battle, and really drove home the absolute insanity of the situation those soldiers went through.

On the complete opposite end there’s always the dynasty warriors games where you melee fight through battlefields full of soldiers, but those are ridiculous for being completely unrealistic in the process. However, they do all retell the classic stories of real battles that took place between the ancient Chinese battles, and for the ones I played pretty much every level involved navigating a huge battlefield to turn the tide between two armies clashing as you went.

Broken_Monitor,

Go Gabe! Losing weight is hard! Makes me feel like I need to go running

Broken_Monitor,

I dont even know what BGS is so they must suck.

Broken_Monitor,

Oh hahaha I know them. Yeah they suck, havent released anything good since like… Fallout 3? Maybe Doom 2016? I do mix uo the dev and the publisher in this case but wow the latest fallout games and starfield were utterly tragic

Broken_Monitor,

Finding time for them has become more difficult. The kids dont typically play great games. Its fun to play some things with them but by the 3rd lego game I was done, its so repetitive. I keep playing stuff like that to entertain them, not really to entertain me. Playing more adult games requires setting up a separate space or waiting for kiddos to be in bed, and man I’m too old to stay up so late. I still enjoy them and haven’t grown out of them completely, but in a sense I sort of have just because of competing responsibilities that win the fight for my time.

EA just added classics like Dungeon Keeper, SimCity 3000, and Populous on Steam (www.theverge.com) angielski

There hasn’t been a lot of good news out of EA lately, but here’s some: the company just launched a bunch of classic games on Steam. The new (old) releases include nine games in total, spanning franchises like Dungeon Keeper, Populous, and SimCity....

Broken_Monitor,

Populous The Beginning! I never played the other populous games but I have some very fond memories of this one. As a kid I just loved using spells to reshape the worlds and mess with the enemy AI. Dropping a volcano in the middle of their village and watching them go nuts was always so much fun.

Broken_Monitor,

This goes for most of these first person puzzle games. Once you solve the puzzle its not very fun to do it again.

Portal 1 and 2, the Witness, Talos Principle 1 and 2, Manifold Garden - all worth a play through. Next on my list to try is Viewfinder.

Does anyone remember the name of that Dwarf-themed FPS game that got announced at (I believe) Summer Game Fest last year? angielski

It’s not Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core. I remember another dwarf fps game getting announced and between Rogue Core and this game, a lot of people were calling it the dwarf revolution. I remember nothing about the game itself, just that the logo was a plain black background with the title in a thin white font and a...

Broken_Monitor,

I dunno but DRG successfully launched a campaign to add a “dwarf” tag to the steam tagging system. You could try browsing that category to find out.

I know they also just released a spin off game, but its more like DRG meets Vampire Survivors instead of a shooter.

Broken_Monitor,

My real hope is that they sell off the IPs to a capable group. They sure gobbled up some great IPs and then did fuck all with them

Broken_Monitor, (edited )

Towerfall

Boomerang Fu

Hammerwatch

Splitgate

Quake Live / Champions

Broken_Monitor,

Makes me wanna play red faction guerrilla again. Might have to pick this up and give it a shot.

Broken_Monitor,

This company keeps tripping over itself. My expectations are pretty low for this game

What are some alternative to soulless videogame franchises? angielski

What I mean is… sometimes people are very loyal to a videogame franchise or a company because they loved a game they released years ago (Silent Hill/Konami with Silent Hill 2, Blizzard/Bethesda with their respective golden eras, some could argue this happens too with Pokémon and Final Fantasy, etc). Ethical/consumer reasons...

Broken_Monitor,

Rock and Stone!

Broken_Monitor,

Tunic was shockingly good. Looks like its for little kids but there is a lot of surprises and neat puzzles tucked away in there. Absolutely worth checking that out

Broken_Monitor,

For some reason I thought that summoning helpers would reduce the rewards for beating bosses, so I soloed almost the entire game. It wasn’t until the black dragon in the DLC that I caved and summoned help. Later in Dark Souls 2 I found out this is not the case and it just increases the boss health.

I also soloed all of Demon’s Souls for a similar reason. I thought I could avoid invaders that way (its sort of true, but in that one using the item which allows summons also allows invasions). I had found out about world tendencies too and would avoid using those items thinking it would maintain an easier world tendency. Only after beating the game did I look this shit up and find out how it really works.

Broken_Monitor,

I guess I don’t care because I never traded in this game, but this seems like a major step backwards after 7 years. For many people I used to play with trading was a major part of their gameplay loop, I used to give my loot boxes to my friends routinely because I was too lazy to do it. I will hazard a guess that this is purposefully pissing off remaining fans and a sequel will be announced soon.

Broken_Monitor,

Absolutely, I remember seeing the original preview trailer with the tag line “Release Date: When it’s ready.” And I was like wow mad respect this is gonna rock. What a fucking bait and switch that was.

I can say I am replaying it now on the exact same PC setup I used 3 years ago and it is a completely different experience. No crashes, no glitches (so far), no random naked T posing on my motorcycle (which is kind of sad, that shit was hilarious). The skills system is totally reworked and I put it to hard difficulty and the enemies now put up more of a fight (AI is still kind of dumb tho). Cops actually chase you, you can finally shoot out of your car (there’s also new skills in the skill tree for improving vehicle abilities). Sooo it’s worth revisiting even if you don’t buy the DLC, IMO.

Broken_Monitor,

First play through ignore the grading system. I know I’m going to get a crap grade - I need practice, upgrades, moves unlocked etc. I will only worry about that system on a second play through where I know exactly what I’m doing and now I’m ready to try perfecting it. At that point I must still be enjoying the game and the challenge of doing better. Most games I never do this, but some of them are really fun. I think if you worry about the grade right away its like skipping classes and homework and going straight to the test. Yeah, you’re probably going to have a rough time.

Broken_Monitor,

Unsurprising. They already split remake up to milk more money out of long time fans, and now they’re doubling down on the mobile market. I remember long wishing for a remake and now I want my wish back. DAMN YOU MONKEY’S PAW!!!

Broken_Monitor,

Uuuugggggghhhhhhh

I was looking forward to this game. The middling reviews and now this have killed it

Broken_Monitor,

They’re gonna struggle to even give this one away. It’s not worth the time

Broken_Monitor,

I cant show mine, but I gotta say I just unlocked the tetrapod legs last night my inner child is loving it. Those things were awesome in the old playstation days and they seem pretty fucking awesome still now. I wanna load it up with firing stance weapons and go ballistic

Broken_Monitor,

Its not a surprise either, these guys have put out a couple preview trailers and have been promoting the game for like a year now. Looks cool, been on my wish list for awhile
