I am excited about the game and all but what happened to just a server list? I fail to see how that isn’t way better.

Chewy7324,

Server lists have it’s place and I hate how many current multiplayer games don’t expose it (they most definetly have it for development purposes).

But most people playing these competetive games want a rank to compare themselves and also be able to rank up. They also want to be placed in a match according to their skill group eithout wauting for someone to leave. A server list isn’t compatible with those features.

At least that’s what I gathered from people online and my friends who were opposed to messing around in a private lobby. Luckily CS:2 will most definetly have private server support with server lists and mods.

Really? The best Sony can do is 25% off on these bigger games? They’re just convincing me to wait for PC sales and not buy the PS5 games. I’m not paying nearly full price for games I’ve already beaten. In the future, I’ll just forgo them on PS5 and wait for the PC release…

I am spending more and more on older games these days. Every new full price game I have bought has disappointed me massively. I pumped hundreds of hours into Grim and the expansions for less than £20 in sales. Currently playing through shadow tactics: blades of the shogun. I bought that and the DLC Aiko’s choice for £8 earlier this week. There are a ton of these in the series, so i am set for a long time it seems.

My last full game price experience was Hogwart’s legacy. I have 108 minutes played. I reckon I have actually played 15 minutes in that. The rest was just video after video of story telling. I am normally someone who skips cutscenes, so this is a really bad match for me. Hogwarts has an 84% positive rating. A lot of people like this sort of stuff, just not me unfortunately.

karlhungus,

You aren’t alone. Forspoken was fun but they gated the gameplay behind a tonne of super slow paced unskippable town parts.

Maybe that’s what the like about dark souls series, right in the action rarely out of it.

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Welcome brother/sister to the world of being a patient gamer!

You avoid a lot of the hype. You get the game when it’s at the most patched up. And you save a lot of money too.

dpkonofa,

I’m already in that world. isthereanydeal.com is my best friend.

Busy playing Shadow tactics: blades of the shogun ATM. I have Aiko’s choice already, but haven’t opened it yet. The series comes highly recommended in reviews. Blades of the shogun hasn’t disappointed so far. Just a very slow moving game that you pick up to fill in a bit of time.

I used to love the NFS series. I really wish they would remove that 3rd party DRM. It is nothing but spyware IMO.

Deceive inc is pretty fun with friends.

Good luck to Lenovo and all the others, but the Steam Deck has changed my life and it’s such a versatile and magical device for a modest price, and Windows-free to boot, that I’m not even considering any of these other ones.

RIP Unity. First they partnered with Ironsource. Who are the people behind InstallCore it’s a wrapper for bundling software installations. It tricks people into installing enough browser toolbars and other bloat to hurt their PCs. Windows Defender and MalwareBytes blocks it. Now Unity does this shit.

I look forward to the incoming crop of games made with Godot.

gravitas_deficiency, (edited ) w Unity will start charging developers each time their game is installed

A few cents of 0 downloads is $0 lolololololol

Also, I don’t expect a unilateral and very one-sided payment and service contract modification is going to stand up in court.

LostWon, w Unity will start charging developers each time their game is installed

WTF. Luckily it isn’t an issue for me right now, but I guess I won’t be using Unity in future like I once thought I might.

I couldn’t find it in the article, but I assume this is only going forward and not somehow retroactive? Lots of amazing indie titles I’ve played run on Unity.

Jakeroxs,

It is just going forward starting Jan 1 I think

LostWon,

If so, at least anyone whose project was completed beforehand can be grandfathered out of the new arrangement.

That really sucks for new projects, though. A few months is not going to be enough time for a lot of projects out there.

dandi8,

AFAIK this applies retroactively.

LostWon,

Unfortunately, I was just coming back to comment this myself, and link this: gamingonlinux.com/…/unity-attempt-to-clarify-new-…

conorab, w Unity will start charging developers each time their game is installed

I’m surprised it’s not per-seat or per-user. Not like the dev is getting more money if the user re-installs the game. Also not a fan of it being monthly. I get why you would charge twice if the user installs it twice since you may not be able to track concurrent installs without DRM, but that should only apply if you choose a per-install licence. Per-install also opens you up to malicious users installing/uninstalling to make you pay.

There should be a per-seat/per-user perpetual price if the dev never updates the Unity engine itself. I get charging per-seat/per-user monthly if they devs are pulling in new versions, but that should stop if you cease updating.

Alternative title: Unity about to get sued into settlement or bankruptcy due to legal fees by Nintendo, Sony, and a bunch of others over unilaterally announced installation fee.
