Might be banned as a “balisong”. Lost mine, but I had it in my utility belt to work at camp. Worked well when I had another handful. Takes some practice to get the swing of it down pat.
If legal for you to purchase and own (important, these are different distinctions), an automatic knife would be the safest for one handed operation. Anything from the Kershaw Launch line will be bulletproof and have decent steel.
Non-auto non-assisted button locks (the type of knife you asked for) are kind of niche. Kizer makes some decent ones, and Civivi makes the exact razor blade utility knife you’re looking for, but in higher quality and within your budget.
Otherwise I gotta say, if you’re not a current knife enthusiast, look for sales on Benchmade Griptilians (or mini-griptilians). The Axis lock is not exactly a button press but if you want higher quality, it’s a good option.
I almost always find myself using a full arms’ span of cord, which for me is around 5.5 feet, so I generally carry two of that length, one wrapped up, and one in a loop with a diamond knot, which I find convenient in place of a carabiner.
I’ve used it once to try to recover something stuck in a tree 😅 The length is quite long for some uses but perfect for hojojutsu. I also used to carry a shorter length in the form of a keychain for more mundane uses.
Maxpedition Urban Assault maybe? Maxpedition’s prepared citizen bags are interesting too, basically a jansport with bombproof fabrics.
Osprey, Deuter and similar have good bags too but aren’t custom built for carry. Looks normal because they are, and can be surprisingly durable while also being light.
Velcro is out but how about molle loops? Leaning more tacticool for the features and materials or are you looking to be more colorful and inconspicuous?
1R2 gang. Non-pro for me. The battery isn’t great but the convenience is exactly what I want in a Keychain flashlight. Dim is all I need for a whole room when dark adapted, bright is all I need elsewhere. It’s so nice to have a focused beam compared to the flood on my phone. And no touchscreen whackness or concern about dirty hands, just twist and light.
Have you checked 5.11’s Rush 2.0 line? Is that too much Velcro? I’m not sure what size you’re looking for either. The RUSH12 is great for an every day backpack and small enough to easily fit under an airline seat if you don’t have a ton of attachments.
Nice mini champ, im a big fan of the gerber dime when i dont carry my centerdrive (and yes im the one who asked if it was a leatherman crunch on C/machinist)
