thejml, do gaming w The Real Cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 – tripleiris.com

Why? This is literally voting with your wallet, a cornerstone of Capitalism. If I look at my options and decide not to do either, I can do that as well. This is how the world works. Always has. Compare your options, make your choice.

It’s always a value proposition. If I feel like a game is a better value/ROI that whatever else I was going to spend my money on, I’ll still get the game.

Sure, I’ll have more limited number of purchases due to having a cap on discretionary spending, but if it costs more for all options, it’s different math that games being more than, say, a night out or a movie or whatever. I can easily say, I’d rather spend $45 for a few beers and dinner with friends than an $80 game, but if I get 100+ hrs of enjoyment out of a game and that dinner goes up to $80 as well, the game makes more sense. Or maybe having them over for some couch coop and we just get a sixer from the store instead.

Everyone will make this decision differently and that’s okay.

Oh the flip side, I have a Bazzite desktop rig running Proton/Steam for gaming and a PS5 and Switch. I’m not in the market for an Xbox and have bought one since the OG… so I’ll just keep not buying their stuff I guess? I feel like boycotting things I’m not buying anyway doesn’t really send a message.

thejml, do gaming w Pokémon games have become consistently ugly, and it's alright to wish they weren't

While it wasn’t necessarily pretty and had its share of glitches, I quite enjoyed Arceus. It was a nice break from the standard patterns it’s fallen into.

Course I say that as someone who also enjoyed Sword and Shield after a skipping a few prior.

Graphics definitely aren’t everything, but they could stop it With the half finished games with glitches.

I was going down the same path, but don’t forget about LABO requiring not just the same sensors, but also the same physical size screen and controllers. So even if everything else was backwards compatible, they’d have to include that text for that game series alone.

thejml, do gaming w Arco is a realy fun adventure game with neat combat mechanics

Wait, you actually finish games before starting new ones? How do I learn this skill?

There’s insufficient surge or Mtn Dew in this picture, it’s got to be a photoshop.

They don’t have asmany sales, but I’ve definitely scored some good prices on games here and there. They often run 20+% off on first party titles and non-first party gets deep discounts (I scored Rabbids for $4 a while back). I just wish they’d do the equivalent of PS Greatest Hits for like $20.

For some situations a console is nicer than a PC. Solid, consistent, single unit I can just connect to a TV and play. I’ve got a PC and I prefer it, but the average console is cheaper than my PC was and simpler for non-geek family members to boot up and play on a whim.

Enter Nintendo. Crappy 9yo SOC, sure, whatever, here are some fun games that aren’t graphically advanced.

thejml, do gaming w Getting PSVR2 working on PC isn't as easy as it should be

I would argue that buying a $10-20 usb Bluetooth adapter is much preferred to giving my info and data and privacy away to Meta. Not to mention the other things you can use it for.

Personally I’m really glad Sony went with Bluetooth over some sort of proprietary tech.

thejml, do gaming w Half Of PlayStation Players Still Haven't Upgraded To PS5

You can (and I have) play PS4 games on PS5.

First thing I did when I got the PS5 was buy a bunch of cheap used PS4 games for it.

thejml, do gaming w Maybe hot take: as a handheld, the regular switch is an awful handheld

The OLED dock has an Ethernet port. They’ll work with non-OLED switches so you could buy one if you need the port.

The two USB’s on the side of the case seem sufficient for most use cases. Might be able to add a tiny usb hub if need be, there’s a few tiny ones fore less than $9.

Ergonomics are a bit odd, but the 3DS had similar issues as well. I ended up 3d printing ergonomics grips for my 3ds and I know they have something similar for the switch. I feel like they were towing a line between OTG usability and being able to hold the joycons in multiple orientations (think just dance, 1-2 switch, Mario party, 51 games, etc), or in different accessories (not sure how well an ergo one would work in a leg strap with the ring fit).

Edit: also the first thing I did was buy a cheap 128GB micro SD and never look back. Sure it probably would her been nice if it wasn’t needed, but it’s swappable and it’s cheaper than if they built it in.

thejml, do gaming w Thoughts on the game Timberborn

I’m cycle 23 right now and I’m basically just trying to conquer the entire map. I’ve got floodgates setup so droughts and bad water doesn’t make any impact (other than the droughts stopping my waterwheels). Working on making huge reservoirs and such.

It is more sandbox like past 15, but i still find the bad water and droughts to be a little challenge. I’ll be interested to see if the devs add another mechanic to challenge our settlements after that point.

While I agree, their decision dissolved one of them. They picked the up and coming product over the one activity making money, burned through the capital and the new product never made it to market.

I’ve been at two startups in my career. Both venture capital financed. Even though they are completely different industries, this is the exact playbook they used.
