I had a hard time getting into Outer Worlds. I’ll try it again, eventually; I may like it more the next time.

Could blocked magazines no longer appear in Random Post and Random Thread sidebars? (kbin.social) angielski

A lot of the larger abandoned magazines are just spam pools now. I don't see their posts in my feed, but I don't like that the two sidesbars of random posts and threads are now just spam advertising sidebars. I triedblocking the magazines, but doesn't that prevent the posts from showing in those sidebars....

Most of the content being federated to my instance from kbin appears to be mostly adverts for websites selling pharmaceuticals - usually advertising controlled substances.

After a couple from the same magazine(? kbin’s term?) I just block the community. But it’s pretty non-stop. I guess it’s not yet considered to be worth defederating, but yowsa.

I just saw another one in random(@kbin.social), so I jumped in and scrolled back; there were only a couple in the past two days, but three days ago there was a series of several posts in a row (6? 8? Something like that).

I an not subscribed to any kbin magazines, so I don’t see them in my curated feed; they mostly show up in the uncurated “World.”

FWIW; you expressed curiosity, so I followed up with an example.

Not just you. I don’t remember which Fallout game I got, but it probably wasn’t the first, and I got to like the second objective where I’m supposed to help some settlement restart their power generator by finding some part, and I realized I was too bored to continue. It was like I could see the entire game stretched ahead of me as more of the same.

Not all games are for all players, so I never thought “Fallout sux”; it just wasn’t my bag. I think the Fallouts are micro-farming long-winded objectives for really small benefits; I guess a lot of people like that, but it’s not for me.

God of War Creator Is Unhappy With New Games and Kratos' Story (comicbook.com) angielski

Despite being nominated for numerous awards and even winning Game of the Year in 2018, the creator of God of War, David Jaffe, is not a huge fan of the new direction the series has gone in. Jaffe himself hasn't worked on these new God of War games, but thinks that they're not staying true to the spirit of the character and the...

It’s the reason why I’ve been holding off on getting a PS5, and recently decided I just won’t. The only thing that has come out recently that tempts me is BG3, but I’m past buying a console for a single game; I’ll just play it on PC.

Good tho know, thanks. I wonder how that will work in couch-coop.

Which affects torrentors how?

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

I don’t torrent, as a rule, so I can’t say I’d notice any speed reduction. I had, however, noticed that no matter how long I kept seeding, I’d gotten few - or maybe no - connections. I didn’t know if this were because nobody else was leeching the thing at the time, or something else like this.

I’m very reluctant to give up Mullvad. So far, in all ways I care about they’ve demonstrated justification for brand loyalty. Plus, I’ve been with them for years and already have everything set up and configured across multiple deviiiiceeeessss.

As I said, torrenting isn’t a critical activity for me, so I’ll hang tight. I am curious to know if Mullvad has given a justification for stopping support for port forwarding. They used to, right? So it was work for them to stop.

I haven’t seen this version of “asking for a friend” before.

Help back up the Great 78 Collections before the Record Companies force The Internet Archive to take them down! (yiffit.net)

See linked posting. I’ve commented there with a link to a CLI tool in Python that allows downloading of IA collections. I’ve submitted a patch to enable specifying start and end points so that it’s easier to resume downloading a huge collection, or to allow multiple people to split up the work....

As concrete examples, try to get a copy of Disney’s 1946 movie, “Song of the South.” It’s been removed from circulation because of its whitewashed presentation of “happy slaves.” Similarly, 6 of Dr. Seuss’ books, including “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” were withdrawn because of racial imagery (the mentioned book had a “Chinaman” drawn with a WWII stereotype style - rice hat, sloping eyes, buck teeth).

There’s media you simply can’t get anymore.

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

In this case, the media was withdrawn for (arguably) good reasons: the representations were deemed hurtful or harmful.

Good reasons or bad, they still stand as stark examples of how media can disappear at the whims of a single organization.

Say what? Now I’m curious how they handled the slavery topic, and found actors for it.

Thanks for the heads-up!
