supersquirrel, do games w Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version

You are joking, but I am 100% serious, I don’t see the contradiction in this.

supersquirrel, do gaming w Elon Musk Rage Quits Livestream After Being Cyberbullied by Gamers

I imagine the words coming together to make this headline like a cool superhero tv show intro, a bunch of ominous characters creep out of the darkness and BAM in a flash of light now a kickass tableau of heroes.

supersquirrel, (edited ) do gaming w I'm doing my part (unfortunately)

I really only buy video games from indie devs.

If I never play a game by an indie dev that I bought, oh noooo what a catastrophe I gave an indie artist money without confirming they deserved it!

This meme should only make you feel slimey if you are dropping lots of money on AAA games where the artists who made the game don’t get even remotely a fair share of profits.

Otherwise, giving independent artists to make more art benefits everyone even if you don’t “use” / “need” the art.

supersquirrel, do games w Six ways Microsoft’s portable Xbox could be a Steam Deck killer

lol fat chance Microsoft is capable of launching a new hardware line and having the competency and staying power to be sucessful in 2025, maybe 5 years ago, but not today.

Godot has a great name, I gotta give it that. I was going to make a Beckett joke but then I realized that was just what it was named after lol.

supersquirrel, do gaming w Report: Unity continues mass layoffs with 'abrupt' communications and 5am emails

Nah, it definitely is, in fact I have noticed a disconcerting number of indie games I REALLY like especially 3d games with physics engines are on the unreal engine.

I have always been a massive fan of at least the creative output of projects on the unreal engine, I don’t know much about the politics and details around how it is to actually create games on the unreal engine or anything though. I just don’t trust Epic honestly or whoever owns them now or rather I don’t trust the incentive structure… but yeah I wish the unreal engine success I am just asking how people see the state of similar engines in this moment.

supersquirrel, do gaming w Report: Unity continues mass layoffs with 'abrupt' communications and 5am emails

Is there something to be worried about here with the Unreal Engine being the only big business in town in terms of indie game development for 3d game engines?

I mean obviously yes, but how worried should we be of this becoming a bottleneck?

supersquirrel, (edited ) do gaming w Valve ban advertising-based business models on Steam, no forced adverts like in mobile games

I can confidently tell you your impulse isn’t brash here, Mutant Football League is exactly what you think it is, has splitscreen and is fucking awesome.

I honestly don’t even give a shit about 'murican football, it doesn’t even matter (though make no mistake, this game has good arcade football gameplay, it isn’t “just a joke game”), Mutant Football League is a journey on a road paved with footballs but it is about the experience along the way not what type of sportsball the road was paved with that you walked your pilgrimage on.

You mean like Mutant Football League 1 and 2??

If you want a local multiplayer arcade basketball game check out Dunk Lords

store.steampowered.com/app/612640/Dunk_Lords/

If you want a shockingly good local multiplayer arcade volleyball game check out Super Volley Blast (seriously how is this game so good, it is just volleyball??)

store.steampowered.com/app/…/Super_Volley_Blast

it looks like the same indie devs have an arcade tennis local multiplayer game too called Super Tennis Blast but I haven’t personally tried it yet like I have the rest of these games

store.steampowered.com/app/…/Super_Tennis_Blast/?…

If you are willing to stretch your definition of “sport” here a bit check out the local multiplayer handball brawler Hyper Brawl

store.steampowered.com/…/HyperBrawl_Tournament/

Lastly, check out the airhockey meets top down action team based hero game Omega Strikers. This game isn’t pay-to-win and it really deserves a lot of love! Don’t pass it over just because it looks like it could be another live-service casino disguised as a game.

edit silly me I forget to recommend the absolutely phenomenal Lethal League Blaze

store.steampowered.com/app/…/Lethal_League_Blaze

fuck you EA

edit 2 - does Rock Of Ages count as a sports game? It certainly has lots of balls, a clear goal for those balls to go in and a set of sensible and logical rules to how those balls get there which leads to mythical stories about heroes, sounds like a sportball game to me so what if the sportball is made of living sheep

Just go play Operation Harsh Doorstop, it is free (community funded free not microtransaction casino “free”), runs a million times better, has vehicles and support for large maps and is moddable!

(including support for players downloading a server’s mods on connection so players only have to click on a server to try out a new gamemode or mod)

I constantly praise this game and it is because of the crazy potential of it, it’s accessibility and the fact that the foundation is already awesome.

Or check out Easy Red 2 for realistic WW2 battles and easy and useful controls for giving orders to AI teammates.

store.steampowered.com/app/1324780/Easy_Red_2

(it it is usually around $9)

We are the same.

supersquirrel, do gaming w We are the same

The sequel, Imperfect Dark is much narrower in thematic focus as you are just trying to blow up all the devices in your house that incessantly have leds on even when they are off.

supersquirrel, do gaming w BioWare veterans confirm they were laid off by EA, including senior Dragon Age and Mass Effect devs

There are also going to be lots of talent who permanently leave the industry because there are no longer any stable decent paying jobs at larger studios.

Try Operation Harsh Doorstop!!!

I already sold it pretty hard in other threads so I will give it a break but in short it is a free moddable tactical shooter with vehicles and realistic ballistics.

Here is my previous comment about Operation Harsh Doorstop and my other fav recommendation Easy Red 2.
