Game companies get greedier, gamers want bigger and better experiences for less money, investors want higher returns, computers aren’t getting faster at the same rate and the game industry can afford to treat it’s employees like shit because there’s always going to be a constant stream of new people who want to work in it.
I don’t think this is really a fuck you to archivists any more than a simple update to the game is at any other point. I do agree that it’s similar to what Blizzard did with overwatch only Valve didn’t overpromise and underdeliver
I bet there are tons of games on steam that have stolen assets and shitty mechanics that inexperienced developers put up expecting only a few people to play
