You might enjoy one of the rereleases of FFX if you haven’t played it yet. They’ve updated the spheregrid, and even have an alternative one (International version, I think it’s called?..).
I maintain that FF8 is mostly only loved when people have nostalgia for it, or they love the card game, or they love breaking the battle system (generally by using the card game).
I was playing through the series, and 8 was my biggest disappointment.
I believe the issue is that Yuzu was patched to support TotK before TotK was released, which could suggest having used some proprietary code, or at least stuff that the devs shouldn’t have had access to.
They could also make the argument that very few people would’ve downloaded the game if the emulator didn’t exist or at least wasn’t being patched to support a game before it releases.
They definitely didn’t lose 1,000,000 sales. At the same time, I feel like it kind of crosses a line to be pirating a game before it’s even supposed to be sold in stores.
They’re saying that a lot of the contemporary cutting edge 3D graphics of the PS1 era looked ugly. But they did it to be cutting edge.
However, if they’d stuck to more traditional art styles (e.g, as could be seen in games like Chrono Trigger), then the games could’ve still looked good today.
They’re not saying all SNES games look better than all PS1 games. They’re saying that we had the capability to make games that still look good today, and we had that capability for years before the PS1 came out. They chose not to use that capability to be cutting edge. And the other commenters are lamenting that.
Of course, I can’t blame them for pushing 3D graphics back then. Especially because they would’ve needed to practice with them before they could get better. Late PS1 games had some decent looking 3D, IIRC.
Male. If I can make a character, I’ll make a male character almost every time, especially on a first run. Or if the character is otherwise a placeholder for "me* in the game.
That said, I love when games give us female protagonists that aren’t sexualized (think FF6), and I’d love to see more of that.
So, do I prefer to play as a male character? It depends.
I’d like to see some good takes on “female perspective” in games. But if it’s basically an aesthetic difference, I’m making a character that matches my gender because it’s supposed to be “me” in the game.
It feels like the title of this post should’ve been the body. I read the title and had no idea what this post was about until I opened up the post and saw the picture, lol
