orbitz, do gaming w Hello, PC gaming here: Are the consoles OK?

Going back awhile now too for that no install right? Like didn’t PS3 have some installs? My memory is fuzzy on when it exactly started, but yeah it was nice to just pop in the media (cart, disc) and play. That was a great perk of console games, especially rentals, though there was a small time I could rent PC games when I moved to a city in the late 90s. These days I mostly play on PC anyways so always install but it was nice for the first few decades of my gaming to not require it.

Heh has there ever been a palladium rpg system in a video game? Really I’m curious, I loved their IPs (ahhh Robotech) and some neat ideas that weren’t other IPs but the system left a lot to be desired. To be fair I never played much of them but recall reading rifts, superhero one and Robotech game books back in the 90s a lot.

orbitz, do games w Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard'

I could have sworn when I pledged in 2014-2016 (can’t recall at the moment) I pledged cause Squadron 42 was hyped to be released in a much shorter time. I’m not complaining, I spent some more cash on it, but I thought I was going to get a fancier single player space game before now. I loved Wing Commander as a kid, even had to get a tech to figure out the highmem.sys and possibly other optimization in the windows .bat files to even play so wanted to play the newest of Chris Rpberts.

Of course maybe I misunderstood at the time and it wasn’t supposed to be coming that soon, which is why I’m not bothered even if it passed, I think they are trying but got into feature creep. I haven’t logged on in over a year now but I keep an eye on things to try when it seems interesting and get use out of my HOTAS.

orbitz, (edited ) do games w What game do you recommend someone who likes the mechanics but not the setting of Baldur's Gate 3?

There are Pathfinder games by Owlcat, that is a round about earlier version of DnD (based on DnD 3.5? But its system is slightly different). I’d say they’re as good of a successor to Baldur’s Gate before BG3 that you’ll get. The settings are similarish but not exactly the same as Baldur’s Gate. I sort of lump in most DnD settings together though, Kingmaker is transforming a land and becoming a ruler, Path (Wrath*) of the Righteous I haven’t played as much to recall the overall setting but definitely has a more other planes feel to it than Kingmaker does.

*Edited for title correction, thank you commenter that noted it.

Yeah I’ve had it in my library for awhile, played a handful of hours and ended up being off today so thought why not? Can’t get to online mode, I always figured I’d do online mode when it was released. A shame but it happens. Granted I tried right after I could download it so probably not the best time but I was also curious if something like this would come up. I’m sure it’ll get sorted out anyways.

orbitz, do gaming w You just had to be there

Does it? You would say that’s one of the ever I had of a steak sandwich, if it was one of the best. It seems like it needs best/worst/mediocre sort of descriptive word in there to make sense. Mean you can guess from the scene and tone but I’d never write it out or even say it that way. Of course I never did well in English and am glad to learn new things.

orbitz, do gaming w Nintendo DMCAs Palworld Mod That Makes Everything Pokémon

As someone with minimal pokemon knowledge, only played two due to being older and not having Nintendo consoles really, I thought this game was a spin off till I realized no big pokemon or Nintendo logo anywhere. They must have threaded the needle to avoid that copyright infringment.

orbitz, do games w Factorio pretty much rewrote its world generation to account for new planets—like this volcanic one

I’ve done Factorio from vanilla, vanilla plus qol mods, to angels and bobs mods. Something is so satisfying once you get a train network set up, bots doing their thing (think it’s improved but used to be a performance killer with too many) and watching everything just work. I think I was at 400 hours before I even bothered launching a rocket which is where they say you beat the game. Anyone looking for YouTubers check out KatherineOfSky, think she still does them for factorio and is quite nice to watch and learn from. I actually haven’t played in a few years now but have 600ish hours (maybe left it on a few nights running by accident but mostly true hours), great game to figure out logistics, timings and such. Also personally usually played without the biters since I just wanted to build (glad they took out the requirement to kill biters for science) but watching other people build up defenses seems interesting but too stressful for my play.

orbitz, do games w GTA 6 trailer coming Tuesday, Rockstar announces

I tried some online stuff (no friends and just casual play) with V and it wasn’t interesting at all to me. Mean the story wasn’t stellar in V but I had enough fun through single player. Hopefully they put at least the same effort in VI’s single player. Though with all the companies wanting more money I bet there’ll be more focus for online from the start this time.

orbitz, do games w Cities Skylines 2 reportedly runs with 7-12fps on an Intel Core i9 13900KS with AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX at 4K/High Settings

Yup even if you get top of the line everything PC games usually aren’t meant to be maxed out settings at launch. A high resolution really takes a toll on the hardware too. Of course not every game is like this but for the most part they don’t want the games to look outdated after two years. It’s always fun revisiting games after a PC upgrade because of this. Though since even the devs or publisher said that they didn’t hit performance targets this is noticably worse performance, least from all the articles I’ve seen. I enjoyed the first city skylines except the traffic so am looking forward to buying when it gets optimized.

orbitz, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’ | VGC

I am curious how they’d translate it myself, I recall the first game vividly as new and thinking it was awesome. Though I assume the next game wouldn’t be marketed for me either. An updated drug scene would be interesting, haven’t had a good one since one of the Batman games. I probably missed some drug sequences but Max Payne’s was pretty effed up at the time.

orbitz, do games w Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 - PC Tech Review - DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction Deep Dive

I never noticed many bugs and had 93 hours in the game under two starts, never finished it though, to be fair I don’t finish most games so not much of a difference there. Was playing today and was reminded how gorgeous it is. I love cyberpunk as a genre and have a half decent video card (3070) and the neon, reflections, smoke all look like some of the best of not the best I’ve seen in my 39ish years of gaming. The downside is at 1080p (yeah I know) is the hair looks distorted/crimped close up (mostly bangs and end of the hair) but still looks better overall than any hair I recall and the rest is all eye candy.

Oh guess I should add, it really does feel like a cyberpunk world should, least to me. The setting is perfect for me but I’m sure there’s flaws I haven’t noticed.

orbitz, do games w CD Projekt recommends starting a new game when Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 drops: 'starting fresh will enhance your overall gameplay experience'

I agree but I think it took about this long from Cyberpunk released till there was a better outlook on No Man’s Sky and I bought both at release, I enjoyed both, but I’d say at release Cyberpunk was a better game at launch (I didn’t have any bugs I got lucky). NMS did much more work on content in the following years to where it’s barely the same experience. Has been awhile since I restarted Cyberpunk will do for 2.0 though. Maybe I haven’t caught much newer content and they added it but it seemed updates were tweaks / fixes than content.

orbitz, (edited ) do games w Baldur's Gate 3's success is not about setting a new "standard"

I completely agree with your comment. It’s a bit of a slowdown from play when you search everything but at the same time if playing tabletop you’d have people trying random things that don’t light up for interaction of a video game. In the end it’s only a slight slowdown anyways and does add to immersion so it’s not terrible but more a time waster is all.

I haven’t looked at mods yet, I like to do a first playthrough vanilla usually but I completely forgot they were a thing here, so thanks for the reminder.
