dinckelman, do games w Epic Games to update Unreal Engine pricing for devs not making games

Difference is that Unity was generally favorable, until the recent blunders, while Epic has generally been disliked for quite a long time now, because of Tim acting like a complete cunt to a lot of people on the industry, including the consumers for his own products

dinckelman, do games w Diablo® IV is coming to Steam

Just don’t give this any time of day. Even if this was a good game, Blizzard, let alone Microsoft, are shit companies you shouldn’t support. It doesn’t help that it’s also just a bad aRPG

dinckelman, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’ | VGC

That’s basically all I do at this point, and it’s been really nice. A lot of genuinely fantastic experiences. Always labor of love, a game they’d love to play themselves

dinckelman, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’ | VGC

Once you turn what you love doing into a business, there’s no going back. There are still people deeply passionate about making games, but that’s just not the reality of these massive studios. They’re in for the money, and the leadership aren’t even… gamers themselves, somehow

dinckelman, do games w EA Sports has delisted its FIFA back catalogue from digital storefronts

Well, at least that’s good to hear. Glad the workers are treated well, but I’m with you otherwise. I won’t be spending any money on their titles

dinckelman, do games w Unravelling the magic and alchemy of Metacritic

Definitely not the only one. But it’s not just games either, it’s cinematography too. Or even food, really. When you watch 500 movies a month, everything looks exactly the same. Not to mention that half of these critics companies are completely untrustworthy, and often post either uneducated reviews, or just plain garbage. Think of something like IGN’s Redfall video. The game is obviously horrible, but the person playing it didn’t know how to hold a controller. Or the one with Cuphead, where they failed the tutorial.

tldr: I only really trust opinions of my friends. These review sites have no value

dinckelman, do games w EA Sports has delisted its FIFA back catalogue from digital storefronts

At the end of the day, both FIFA and EA are horrible companies. No one should be giving them any money whatsoever.

The reality of things is that we all know that EA will launch their own brand, publish the re-badged FIFA titles under it, and then continue farming mtx money from people, who have no self-control

dinckelman, (edited ) do games w VR still makes 40-70% of players want to throw up, and that's a huge problem for the companies behind it

If a game uses smooth locomotion, instead of teleportation based movement, I cannot play it without air blowing into my face, or sometimes been at all. Otherwise I have no issues at all

dinckelman, do games w The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 18-09-2023

Finishing up Yakuza 6. Outside of that, I’ve been playing a mix of ESO and Guildwars 2, and enjoying some Rimworld, and Binding of Isaac. The last one basically never leaves my steam installation

dinckelman, (edited ) do games w Creators of Slay the Spire will migrate their next game to a new engine if Unity doesn't completely revert their changes

We just live in a dystopia. The leadership will milk you dry, for pennies, for short term profits. When you’re this greedy, you can’t see more than a day into the future. It’s just another reminder than corporations aren’t your friends

dinckelman, do games w Creators of Slay the Spire will migrate their next game to a new engine if Unity doesn't completely revert their changes

Even if they do revert it, the trust has been lost. They’ve made mistakes before, but none as stupid as this one

dinckelman, do games w Another Code: Recollection | Nintendo Direct 9.14.2023

I’ve only played the DS game, and it was pretty solid, although a bit short. Definition going to take a look at it online

dinckelman, do games w Do you find the description Live Service Game off-putting?

The point is that when you printed something on a disk, and had 0 capability of pushing patches down the road, you were forced to finish your product. Now it’s not the case, evidently

dinckelman, do games w Do you find the description Live Service Game off-putting?

Unless it’s an MMO, or something like an online aRPG, the tag “live-service” immediately means that you’re fully expecting to release an unfinished game, collect your preorder money, get backlash for the game being unfinished garbage, and then release a few patches as a “Sorry we got caught” excuse.

The days when you’d buy something, and you would know that is the final version of your software, have been over for a long time

dinckelman, do nintendo w Nintendo Is "Evolving" Into An Entertainment Company, According To Doug Bowser

We all get what that means, and don’t think otherwise for a minute. It’ll be unfinished 70€ titles, requiring 3 30€ dlcs to feel mostly complete, requiring a paid 15€ subscription on top of that. We’ve seen this a dozen times too many by now. Nintendo are just always late to everything
