I think the people who just pick up an instrument and fool around with it might be more tempted to use AI than an actual composer who knows and cares about music theory and sound production.
It’s all about what they want to do. You don’t ask a algorithm to solve your sodoku, because what’s the point of doing it then.
It’s a standing joke that composers actually make their living doing tedious tasks like commercial jingles and background music for radio shows. The AI can easily do that, removing both the tedious work, but also the payment.
Algorithm based music isn’t a new thing. One could argue that it was exactly what Bach was doing. His ideas were mostly simple three note motifs, and the rest of the hourly long concerts were just him churning out all the possible arrangements using strict theory. AI could do that faster than a human, but I also don’t think any human is really interested in doing it like that anymore. It was a huge accomplishment by Bach, but only because he was the first to lay the groundwork. It’s not interesting today.
Composition today is all about conveying an idea or emotion through sound, which would be rather difficult for an AI. It can probably fake it well enough, but it’ll be based on already existing methods, aka slop. There’s already enough human made slop in music to saturate the market for such. AI doesn’t really have an edge in doing it, except it might be cheaper for those that need it.
I genuinely enjoyed the game. Fans of the series claim that it destroyed the franchise. Perhaps they’re right, but the franchise was pretty fucked up to begin with.
I said that Nazis are not political. I don’t care if and I didn’t state whether you are one or not, but you can’t argue that anti-nazi statements should be disallowed for being political, because Nazis are not within a political spectrum.
In set theory, Nazis are simply not in the set that the rule is describing.
The Nazi ideologi is a dictatorship. Dictatorships aren’t political. The word political in it’s most basic form means “making decisions in a group”. A dictatorship doesn’t do that. They do participate in democratic politics only because that is the existing system and they want to dismantle that.
“Fight the Nazis” could be a political statement, because it happens within a political system and urges the system to take action politically, but it is not a statement that picks a political side. Both extreme left and extreme right politics should be against Nazis, because Nazis want to destroy all politics, including both sides and everything in between.
So, sure, its a political statement, but it’s not a statement that can upset anyone politically.
The only people who can object against hating Nazis are Nazis themselves.
The first section of my disc box was for demos. The rest for games. The games sometimes got overwritten, but the demos never got sacrificed, because those were hard to get.
These days I just go to pouet.net and watch the YouTube clips. I know, it’s a ridiculous procedure to stream megabytes of video to watch a 100kb demo run, but I just can’t be bothered to make my pc run anything by itself anymore.
I only played the original. I didn’t really like it at first, thinking that the augmentation and mod stuff was needlessly complicated for this kind of game. Also the graphics weren’t all that great in comparison to other games using the same engine. There were a lot of attention to details in comparison to other games so I gave it a chance. The turning point came after completing the first part of the story and getting hooked. The story really carried the game and touches on some interesting topics.
A game with a similar feel would be Omikron: The Nomad Soul. It was released the year before Deus Ex, has worse controls and graphics, but the story and setting is somewhat similar.
That shirtless guy in Morrowwind was an asshole. Sending some kid into a basement to fight giant rats well knowing that it’d be their first battle and likely not surviving, while he stayed at home shirtless and well fit to remove those pestering rats, just pretending to be an alcoholic or something.
The RTS genre got drowned by cellphone apps doing the same thing.
The games don’t have high technical requirements, so it’s a perfect match for phone/tablet apps.
However they’re also quite easy to program, and easy to make graphics for, so the market is swamped with clones of clones of stock code and stock graphics, so no developer can approach it seriously anymore.
The best games in the genre are good because they have carefully balanced gameplay, but that takes time to discover for the players, so even if someone made the perfect game, it’d never be discovered amongst the shovel-ware.
The whole thing was poorly managed and there’s nothing they can say now to tell a different tale. I hope the people who put any effort into it gets paid somehow.
