They seemed to describe something other than regular, even old FPSs. If anything, these are the last tags in tneir library.

Video games are a medium of artistic expression. My favorites have something insightful to say with their story, force you to reconsider basic mechanics in new ways, make me laugh, and have proper conclusions. I don’t want to be distracted with goals outside the canon of the world I’m trying to lose myself in.

That’s why I went about old RPGs.

I don’t feel their message is well-coordinated. My first thought was that they played Elisium and Baldurs Gate 3, and then wrote that they want more games like that.

They have their taste in games, and lay it accurately with tons of ‘I know that X does Y, but not for me tho’. I expected some flame there, but no, just their personal opinion on what they like to see and lack.

Stepping into their shoes, I’d try old rpgs, quests, adventures accumulating in the backlog and already having their share of GOTY awards so you can hop from a masterpiece to a masterpiece.

They don’t go deep into why f2p and MTX are popular. It’s really just a sudden frustration that they aren’t as represented. Cheers to you journoperson, please take a sit between groups as rarely cared for as you do, or even worse

Yes. And this description gives me Alone in the Dark (2007) vibes: they explicitly stylized chapters and subchapters as episodes on dvd. Would they make something original to build a game around this idea? Would it be linear-only, for games like TLOU with limited choices? Or it’s just about patenting everything that’s not nailed down?

I think it would only stand out if you would be able to rewind and passively watch the in-engine recording of your whole previous gameplay (like in cybersports, or clip editors in some games), with an option to jump in at some sections. But it’s a little too much to implement smoothly, having no reason.

At least it’s a new game. PS got RE4 remaster. It’s not bad but funny.

ML models ‘learn’ by generating non-human-readable arrays of weights, that’s a little pixie-dusty. But it’s use there is narrow, in a supporting role. My comment was about the core ‘making radiant quests feel tailored to you’ thing. It woulf still be a set of tables with fillable blanks, it’s structure and content decided by humans with a little random or maybe AI-gen content dropped here and there to add variety. Otherwise it won’t communicate the resulting quest to the system.

Does that need an AI or just a well adjusted automated generation?

@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, guess, Doom and Quake are the earliest non-arcade games that are still accessible to current generations of players making it somehow relevant. I feel like only Sega could do something, like releasing one of their classics updated with some new content, but it won’t be the same as original cartridge releases and obviously incompatible with them.

Of singleplayer games, it may be Quake. This one was created before the recent remaster and compatible with different engines.

In honor of Quake’s 20th anniversary, MachineGames, an internal development studio of ZeniMax Media, who are the current owners of the Quake IP, released online a new expansion pack for free, called Episode 5: Dimension of the Past.

Alien Shooter and Zombie Shooter series are direct inspirations to this Valve’s experiment. Idk if they are good on your platform or if they are meant to play together with others, but I liked some of these older entries playing solo. Maybe you’d like them too.

I loved Alien Swarm, although it’s like just one episode from a big game. It’s disheartening it’s still like that. This game has a potential, especially for coop gaming. Just no content to flesh it out.

Sweet. The first one was way more enjoyable than I initially thought. Wonder if they’d do a Sigils of Elohim-like app again.

@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

It can’t be remaked for many reasons. The best they can do is fund OpenMW or give up their assets. Actually making anything from it is not only rebuilding it, but solving many ways Morrowind is fucking broken.

And I love it for how disfunctional it is.

I hear you but that’s also the kind of games that overpopulates the market and brings money. Some shitty exploitative timekillers for smartphones are bigger than top ten AAA games combined. Idk any of these companies, but if abusive apps’ devs come to discussing that, it means a lot.
