As someone who wanted to love Elite Dangerous but couldn’t get behind the grind and monotony of it, would this game be worth getting now?

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Yea, I would have to agree wholeheartedly that the ship flying is awesome in Elite. The ambiance is great, such as the creaking of the ship when in hyper drive. I guess the games are two different kind of space Sims. If what you’re telling me is accurate about NMS then Elite is probably better for me in the long run, I just wish I had a friend who would actually play it with me and make space a little less lonely - I guess I would have the same problem in either title come to think of it.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Yea Elite Dangeous is kind of the same, you have to make your own objectives or you’re just running missions to make money to buy ships to be more efficient at those runs and eventually even bigger ships to make more money.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

I would say I do to an extent, but elite dangerous solo is pretty egregious i just feel really confined even though you can get out of your ship now. If there were a few more things to do it would check all of the boxes such as things you could do in NMS like build bases, etc. And plus the ship customization is strictly internals and you don’t have the ability to change the overall look of your ship besides skins.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Yea that’s kinda what I was getting at in my comments on here, maybe not necessarily this comment you replied to, but elite definitely had the ship aspect of the game down, it feels so good to fly around, bur you’re totally right in how you called it a space trucking feel. That’s where I get tired of it even if you can get out of your ship with the expansion now. With all of the comments here I think I’ll wind up buying it here soon and giving it a whirl.

I played the ever living hell out of Gen 1 and 2 and I can confindently say Gen 2 was a fucking masterpiece. I’ll never forget swimming from Johto to Kanto and the feeling that gave me. Also, Gen 3 was reaaaaaaaaaaaaally good.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck, it looks like I’m finally going to have to buy the Samurai Jack game.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Onimusha!

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Yea, it’s a real banger. For the uninitiated, it’s set in Feudal Japan that plays like Resident Evil but with Demons instead of zombies. And they have one of the 3 titles on steam for a relatively fair price if you don’t have access to a ps2 and a physical copy.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

I find it’s a good way to demo games. Get it free, if I like it enough after a few hours I’ll go buy it on GoG or Steam and continue to play it on there.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

They have people on the hook for sure. I honestly think a lot of it comes from the fact that progression carries over for the people who have sunk a lot of time into it recently as well as bringing back older maps from the CoD’s I used to play and getting older players back in. I, for one am not buying any of it. I’m just kind of worn out by the whole franchise in general.

Good gaming experiences with no HUD? angielski

I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Alien: Isolation is another good example of this. Actually terrifying to be hunted by the AI as well.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

So how do I force steam to not update skyrim so it doesn’t break my mods?

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Damn unfortunate for me because this time around I didn’t feel like using TES5Edit, Loot, and whatever other programs you needed to mod it properly and just did some light modding through the in game mod manager. Guess I’m just gona unplug my ethernet cable and launch it in offline mode for a few weeks.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

They are extra programs to add extra stability to the game when heavily modded. It goes hand in hand with vortex, just a real big pain in the ass because when I mod using vortex I get a little too over zealous with the mods. It also allows you to merge mods together to further increase the amount of mods because you’re capped at a certain number and also helps clean up loose code in the base game that is redundant. It gets to be a bit much, and I was controlling myself from that inevitably.

Didn’t think a dream that I hadn’t dreamt yet would be crushed before I could even dream about it…

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Years back I was part of a focus group for VR and one of the questions they asked me was how accepting I would be of ads in game and well they got the most heated response from me with that one.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Best thing to do for me is to just look at the clock and set a time to get off, depending on the length I want to sit down it’s usually 1-3 hours. Usually when that time comes around I notice what I’m doing in game and realize without that time limiting I would probably stay on for way longer.

@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Team coke in MW:2 on 360. I played a game on shipment with them and mopped up, they invited me and I had a blast. It was pretty multifaceted, I won’t ever forget King juice, black dude that worked at Comcast- funny as all hell when we got him to do his Comcast lines lol.

A friend got me into New World when he started playing, never played an MMO more for more than a week but this one seems like it might hold me for awhile. Waiting on D4 season 2. A little bit of cyberpunk 2077 since the dlc dropped and Project Zomboid when I’m in the mood. ALSO KATAMARI DAMACI.

The next major update is going to be glorious. If you haven’t been following it I suggest you should. They post updates on their progress every few weeks.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Yea the buildings and basements open up soooo much potential as well. Really excited for what they’ve cooked up. Also the new crafting system. I’m so ready lol. Besides all the mods breaking its gona be a great time when it does launch.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Start playing more indie games with passion behind them and less AAA money grabbing half polished turds they keep pumping out. It’s the only way out of this mess.

This is no longer a box. Time to rebrand.

Portal 2 VR mod gets an early release (www.gamingonlinux.com) angielski

Still one of the best puzzle games ever made, Valve’s Portal 2 now has a community-made VR mod available in the early stages that’s already quite impressive. The mod works, although it’s certainly a little rough around the edges with various bits not quite hooked up yet. Even so, it’s impressive what modders are able to...

Every day I want to get another headset again a little bit more.

Yokozuna,

Did you really just say the Witcher 3 combat was boring? Am I hearing this right? What was boring about it to you I am genuinely curious.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly you’re not wrong, the launch of the game was actually horrible. The game was good in theory but was halfway executed and shoved into our faces as something great when it obviously wasn’t when they shipped it.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Personally I’m waiting on starfield because it is Bethesda releasing the game.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

What the holy monopoly is this. Basically the three worst major game developing companies have now joined forces. Activision, Blizzard, and now Ubisoft. Holy shit. Yea guess who isn’t playing any more titles put out by them, big yikes.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

They were always there lurking in the background making shitty titles, they just weren’t in the light like the are now.

Yokozuna,
@Yokozuna@lemmy.world avatar

Never really liked titles from Activision or ubisoft to begin with and thats just my opinion, just enjoyed the odd blizzard game and that’s been a rocky road as of late. I’m just not a fan of monopolies really, and if I can avoid shoveling money into the beast then I will. But as time goes on it will be harder and harder to navigate this because I’m sure there I’ll be some games put out by companies owned by Microsoft because their reach is so big I’m starting to get more into indie games as well party because of this in part.
