MalReynolds, do games w Star Citizen is on course to reach $1 billion in player funding in 2026, and we still might not get to play its singleplayer campaign next year

Think so ? I put these games down for a while and come back later, explore the new content, muck around for a while, and put them down again… Love 'em both, but not all the time.

Yup, very much make your own activities games, but both continue to grow. NMS especially just keeps bashing out free updates (Best Ongoing Game again at this years The Game Awards) and has monthly or so expeditions for the new things if you need more direction. Corvettes went over well.

Agreed, IIRC they have a free weekend every now and then. A couple of years back I gave it a spin, realized what I wasn’t missing, and went back to Elite Dangerous and No Man’s Sky. You know, working space games…

MalReynolds, do games w Are any games using neural networks for better hard AI that doesn't cheat?
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

Hardest of all is making AI that realistically plays like a human does.

However it is being worked on and coming along, you can play one here

MalReynolds, do games w What games popularized certain mechanics?
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

Been around since at least early Final Fantasy / Chrono Trigger SNES era (for some values of action). Maybe Atari ‘Adventure’.

Nah, in this case there was only 4. I’ve seen the others before.

And yet when libgen was broken a couple of days ago it sent me to the broken libgen for the (admittedly obscure) thing I was after. Perhaps caching I dunno. Still, glad it’s there…

No longer taking new papers for a couple of years? now. Crying shame and a pox on scientific advancement.

MalReynolds, do piracy w Can Pirate's Bay be considered "safe" if it is used only for non-executable multimedia content?
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

It has to be executed to have any danger, so you’d need a zero day exploit for your media player, even then it should be contained at user level rather than system. I’ve not really heard of it happening, but it’s theoretically possible I guess, would take a really bad coding mistake. Keep your players updated and you should be fine.

MalReynolds, do piracy w please help debug my qbittorrent socks5 setup with nordvpn
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

Consider containers. Gluetun makes it easy to establish a wireguard connection to Nord, then use qbittorrent docker on the network that glutun provides, same for all your *arrs. Safer, faster, self-contained. Connect your web-browser to gluetun’s proxy. Just sayin’

I was thinking more of training the base models, LLAMA(2), and more topically GPT4 etc. You’re doing LoRA or augmenting with a local corpus of documents, no?

MalReynolds, do piracy w Visions of a larger plunder
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

Akshually, while training models requires (at the moment) massive parallelization and consequently stacks of A100s, inference can be distributed pretty well (see petals for example). A pirate ‘ChatGPT’ network of people sharing consumer graphics cards could probably indeed work if the data was sourced. It bears thinking about. It really does.
