KeenFlame, do gaming w You can't sue us for making games 'too entertaining,' say major game developers in response to addiction lawsuits

Dopamine is a signal substance that is present in several places in the brain, and animals, doing different things in different places. It is not as simple as an exploitable chemical that is enabling this or even involved in the behavioral studies targeted and implemented by gambling companies.

Many things in life is exploitative. The plastic in almost all your utility is designed to break so you have to buy new products. The insurers are purposefully hiding clauses to steal from actual people in distress, at the moment where they lost everything. Oil companies astroturf and lobby to keep the transportation and air quality at this unsustainable level just to make even more money when they already have most of the money in the world, enough to buy whole continents, just lying around in Panama.

Music, film, and other forms of art are the few places where the consumer is more actively engaged and sensitive to being exploited, yet it is also the space where that just doesn’t fly. The gambling area is the most interesting place to view these moral questions in. Why is it okay that their entire business model is to work around regulation as much as possible to reach those most vulnerable in society to take their money?

Games with exploitative practices are going hard out of fashion. The people that engage with those systems unhealthily is the same people that are gambling addicts.

To me it’s just very easy and obviously best to use policy involving support networks and social safety nets to protect people rather than using prohibitive regulation and hope that soulless corporations will ever grow artificial moral spines. These psychopathic global machines will never be human or act human ever

KeenFlame, do games w 'The gold rush is over:' Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon devs say that big Game Pass and Epic exclusive deals have dried up for indie devs

These are enormous classics, made by small studio is not the same as unknown game. Sold much more than many triple a games, this is a very dry weak take

KeenFlame, do gaming w We've had a few killer games recently

It’s not annoying. It wasn’t explained that well I guess but it’s very easy to get into and play with the progression system.

The reason for having multiple resources for these is the same reason for having multiple resources in a tabletop game. It’s fun to balance what you do, risk reward with different modes of play.

Long term goal is finding samples on the map and extracting alive with someone that has carried them with you. If you die you drop them etc. This resource loop makes sense it is a whole secondary to the main missions and will net you upgrades in the end that are for your ship which means anyone that joins your squad.

The money you get from everything and is used for unlocking the “spells” and they are also gated by xp. This is also great and well thought out as the player will unlock toys in bursts and have time to learn them side by side with learning new mission types.

When you select a mission you get to choose an operation which is several missions in a row with increasing medal rewards for completing main objectives.

You can do side objectives and clear enemy sites for more rewards at the end.

All this is also balanced by the run having a timer which makes the enemy count increase steeply, so you have to balance if you want to complete more or less, if you want to safely extract, if you want more medals or money etc.

This creates a dynamic difficulty choices so the players can together calculate different risk reward scenarios based on what they want and how intense.

You can win big on a hard mission, but can’t extract unless you fail. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and run out of reinforces (extra lives)

Gosh it’s so much brilliant progression and gameplay choices put in here and it makes my game design brain gush. It’s so anti pay to win which is very refreshing, you get the suoercredits to unlock stuff in missions and in passes and it doesn’t give better stuff exactly, it gives different stuff, like the tf2 weapons or something like that, and it’s just different tools to finish jobs that needs to be done, which makes all players be able to contribute in their own way. It’s just very very smart.

KeenFlame, do games w Fuck Ubisoft.

Was the same with every platform. Enshittification does not care about you

KeenFlame, do games w Palworld is now available in Early Access on Steam (and Gamepass, I believe)

If those are the things you choose to complain at, I’m hopeful here

KeenFlame, do games w Cities: Skylines 2 developers have noticed 'a growing tendency of toxicity in our community'

That’s what they are doing… The marketing team cannot handle their game being returned so they call the community toxic. Career suicide imo

KeenFlame, do games w Cities: Skylines 2 developers have noticed 'a growing tendency of toxicity in our community'

No, most companies take positive action, not whine about toxic community

KeenFlame, do gaming w Hogwarts Legacy Just Broke A 14-Year Games Industry Streak – For the first time since 2008, something other than Call of Duty or a Rockstar game was the best-seller

Another way of saying you have deep empathic issues

KeenFlame, do games w 8 Years later my Steam Link is still getting regular updates

Ofc not, what you need to show is a public company that does not fuck over customers

KeenFlame, do gaming w Was 2023 the Greatest Gaming Year of All Time?

No 1998

KeenFlame, do games w 'There's almost nobody left': CEO of Baldur's Gate 3 dev Swen Vincke says the D&D team he initially worked with is gone, due to Hasbro layoffs

But what about the poor CEOs? Did they get their Christmas bonus? Think of the children!!

KeenFlame, do gaming w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient - Opinion

I really don’t understand your reasoning. They use mocap and actors and spend so much time recording these scenes, then you don’t play them and then say you prefer Bethesda npcs? Mocap scenes and npc AI is so wildly different things. Ai That doesn’t even react when you shoot them? That can’t stealth? That clip into environment while looking at you like you are a ghost? I really try hard to understand your take here

KeenFlame, do gaming w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient - Opinion

Yeah it’s definitely not because the tech is cutting edge and no other game has come close to using these features correctly

KeenFlame, do gaming w Cyberpunk's storytelling makes Starfield seem ancient - Opinion

Hint: the previous games weren’t exactly amazing at this either. Worse, in many areas. It’s quite rose tinted from nostalgia

KeenFlame, do gaming w Dev cancels Switch port of Wipeout-style racer blaming controversial Unity fees

Unity fucked everything up and will no longer be the den facto engine. But they can upgrade to sell on switch and still gain more money than they pay, it’s not required that they upgrade every version of the game. However, it will be a lot of annoying paperwork and they’d have to maintain two branches so I guess that may be why they chose not to.
