Kecessa,

Oh fuck off with the good guy thing, it’s a private company trying to make money, there’s no good people when profit is the goal, there’s no good billionaires and Gaben is one.

Kecessa,

No, they’re still overcharging us if they make enough profit that the boss could become a billionaire while the employees make more than the industry average.

I don’t know what goes though people’s mind to get them to defend for profit private companies, they’re not there to be your friend, they’re there to get you to take the money you earned and spend it while gaslighting you into believing that you get your money’s worth.

Kecessa,

Why do you think they’re able to make that much money? Not by using their position as the store where the majority of people buys games from?

There’s no good guys when profits are the goal. They might provide good service, the only reason they’re doing so is because they see potential profit.

There’s a major difference between making more than average and being a billionaire. You know what’s the difference between making 500k a year and making a billion a year? About a billion.

Kecessa,

Six yachts.

They don’t need to actively run out their competition because they already have enough of the market that they’re the default option. Just like Microsoft doesn’t need to try and actively stop MacOS or Linux from existing.

Kecessa,

Or they could have charged a fair share instead of 30%.

Kecessa,

Billionaire exist at the expense of people like you and me buddy.

Kecessa,

I’m all in for punishing all billionaires and you’re very naive if you think their goal isn’t too maximize profit. If it wasn’t there’s no reason why they would accumulate enough surplus for Gaben to own six yacht, they would instead reduce their 30% cut and pass the savings to everyone and we would have cheaper games.

Kecessa,

Yes, the profit is excessive

You could have ended your message right there instead of getting on your knees and opening your mouth.

Kecessa,

You assume that I’m not pissed at all these corporations and all billionaires and multimillionaires??

This discussion is about Valve, I’ll talk about the others when we have a discussion about them.

Kecessa,

I’ve got 500gb of games on my switch, about 10 of them were bought…

Kecessa,

Enforced or not, the fact that it’s part of the contract is the issue as there’s always the chance that they’ll enforce it.

Kecessa, (edited )

As I mentioned in another thread, if their running costs were close to the revenues they make then their owner wouldn’t be a multiple yachts owning billionaire.

Their cut is a %, which means that as games become more expensive they make more money. But their running costs actually go down as they improve their tech and code.

An internal memo was made public and they make more revenue per employee than Microsoft.

We’re overpaying for games but people just got used to it.

Kecessa,

It’s just the time necessary to figure out how to create a ladder climbing animation

Kecessa,

Was free on Epic at some point so check if you already have it if you are someone who claims the free games there

Kecessa,

Link to the trailer

youtu.be/lU_NKNZljoQ

Kecessa,

What’s funny is that when the producer is mentioned in trailers I always think “Ok so the director is an unknown person and they’re the one who has the most influence so it must not be great…”

Kecessa, (edited )

It goes both ways then, people who are happy should shut up until they see some gameplay.

Kecessa,

And they also said “We’re still learning what’s best for PC players […]”

They’ll be back.

Kecessa,
Kecessa,

Just pointing out that the “Just make an account, AH doesn’t deserve that” people are on Lemmy as well

Kecessa,

They’ve the same kind of reactions though, get abused and say you’re sorry.

Kecessa,

Changing your review to positive is exactly that

Kecessa,

Solo dev that hires a bunch of contractors?

That’s like if I was saying I mow my lawn myself by paying a teenager to do it for me

Kecessa,

Yeah but in this case we don’t seem to be talking about building the tools for the dev (lawnmower/gas), it seems like contractors were hired to develop things that are the final product (mowed lawn).

Kecessa,

This is true if you ignore that their history starts in the 90s with some pretty average games, not in 2017…

Kecessa,

Have yet to be able to join my friend’s game if they set it to “Friends only” 👍

Kecessa,

Yep, I’ve known specialists that are extremely good at their job but when you hear them talk about other stuff you sometimes wonder how they manage to tie their shoes in the morning.

Kecessa,

They trust people’s intelligence

Kecessa,

Logitech G502 or nothing!

Kecessa,

Even without the weights inside?

I’ve got the wired version (Hero and X versions) and the X version is very light (to me anyway)

Kecessa,

The only way it will grow? Man, the indie scene was pretty much non existent 20 years ago and now it rivals major studios in number of concurrent players

Kecessa,

A monopoly is a monopoly is a monopoly.

The vast majority of games you pay for on Steam can be taken from you in a couple of clicks from a Valve employee. The second there’s a chance in management everything can go out the window very quickly because their position is ripe for abuse.

Kecessa,

A company can be considered a monopoly without having 100% of the market. Microsoft is considered a monopoly, so is Google.

As for the rest, I don’t know how their competitors being bad changes the fact that you don’t really own the games you purchase on Steam.

Kecessa,

If you have the power to sway the market in the direction that you want, you’re the only one with that power and you’re the default option for your product then yeah, you very much are a monopoly and that’s the position Steam has in its market.

It’s currently in court for adopting anti competitive policies regarding pricing.

Valve is a multi billion dollars company, it doesn’t need you to defend it bud.

Kecessa,

www.ftc.gov/…/monopolization-defined

Microsoft was found to have a monopoly over operating systems software for IBM-compatible personal computers.

You: “But other OS exist! So it’s not a monopoly! People could just install another browser if they weren’t happy!”

Kecessa,

There’s a couple of actors in my province that had a hard time finding work after playing a certain role because people were mad at them personally and producers didn’t want to touch them with a 10’ pole!

Kecessa, (edited )

Dragon Quest 5 came out before Pokemon and had monster joining you to fight by your side, ain’t much they can do about the concept so as you said it’s about the art/monster design.

Kecessa,

It’s an issue with your setup my dude because it launches quicker than Steam for me

Kecessa, (edited )

Mario + Rabbids

And let’s not pretend that Pokemon isn’t a glorification of actually fighting to solve things and go up the ladder…

Kecessa,

Millennials? Kids under 10 still go batshit for it!

Kecessa,

Old people residences will become fun as the LAN generations enter them!

Kecessa,

That’s an issue with the cost of storage back then meaning that people needed external hosts, but these days if Reddit and Lemmy can self host then an equivalent forum could do it too.

Kecessa,

They were sued in the EU for violating anti trust laws, lost and decided not to cooperate.

They’re currently getting sued for forcing devs to not sell their games at a lower price on other platforms.

Their marketshare is more than enough to consider them a monopoly, you don’t need 100% of the market to be one, you just need to be so implanted that you become the default solution. Google doesn’t have 100% of the market, it still is considered a monopoly for search engines

Kecessa,

Steam as a game store has a monopoly, just like Google as a search engine has a monopoly, other options exist but their reach is small enough that Valve and Alphabet can decide what happens with the market.

“They have a very limited presence in Asia”… Yeah, just like Google, we’re not talking about Asia.

EGS is perfectly fine and I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks it’s Steam that’s bloated and has a load of useless stuff that’s only there to monetize whales (cards, tradeable items…)

Kecessa,

Well then no monopolies exist if we look on a global scale for everything, thank you for fixing all of the world’s market!

You only have a single option for an internet provider where you live? Well they don’t have a monopoly because in the next town over they have another option!

You’re

A

Fucking

Genius

Happy holidays to you buddy!

Kecessa,
