One thing I loved about the original three games - through save importing you could have a line of unbroken continuity (with only a few strange abrupt departures from the narrative… #TeamShani)
Getting flip flopped around like that on a timescale of weeks fucking sucks (I’ve been in that situation but not in game dev).
Just… being totally used and owned by an executive team that simultaneously wants to harness/abuse your passion, while also callously making snap judgements like this without any regard for respecting their people… it’s like “how to destroy morale 101”
Same. Civ 5 was nice to look at, for example the swirly white clouds for the fog of war. In Civ 6 that gets replaced with… an ugly brown parchment thing
For 2024 especially it’s pretty fucking bad yeah. I’m really not a handheld guy but in 2016 it didn’t seem as terrible. Only ever used mine out of its dock for a total of a couple hours
I’m a cis bi guy. I always play male characters ‘cos it’s kinda like a self insert thing I guess. If the game has romance options I’ll just go with whoever seems the most fitting for the plot haha. Except in WoW I had a few female troll alts because screw those hunchback male troll models…
Enough of that shit and the only date it sets is “the date I leave this fucking company”. I’m so tired of people thinking they can make magic happen by talking down to developers. So tired
Can’t really do that with such a hot product. Would cause too much PR damage and outrage. Companies don’t do it because this way they basically outsource the PR problem to the scalpers while allowing them to play innocent.
The level of outrage over supply issues for a video game console is disproportionate a lot of the time. Outrage that would be better directed elsewhere, but I digress.
