What exactly do they mean by "flagship"? The Escapist had Zero Punctuation and... that's about it. Aside from some Yahtzee Croshaw podcasts, I can't think of anything else worth watching on there.
There are several games in that series, most if not all of which are on GOG for cheap. I recommend Caesar III (don't bother with IV), Zeus, Pharoah and Cleopatra. They all follow the same basic formula and are a lot of fun.
This kind of thing has been going on for at least 30 years. One of the earliest examples is Night Trap starring Dana Plato. You may not know who that is, but anyone who grew up watching Diff'rent Strokes certainly does. If you want a more mainstream example, look at Ripper from 1996 which features Christopher Walken, Paul Giamatti, Karen Allen, Burgess Meredith, David Patrick Kelly, Ossie Davis, and John Rhys-Davies.
I got bit by this one. Went over to a friend's house to spend the day playing HHGTTG. Several hours later we discovered we couldn't win the game because I had neglected to feed the dog 15 minutes in while he was up getting a drink or something.
