To be fair, Ubisoft isn’t in a good position right now, to be able to experiment or do whatever they want. So the cancellation is understandable, if they expect it to be controversial and flop because of that. In the end, its the fault of the people who had political issues with prior games. I wish people would stop, so that companies can experiment and be more creative.
Which does not change how logical a decision from a company is. To me, the decision to cancel the game makes sense. I wish they would not, but I understand why. And my understanding is not affected by my feelings about how much I like or dislike the company.
Only if you are currently subscribed to Game Pass for Console, a plan that was discontinued in 2024 and is no longer available for new subscribers. (The former Game Pass for Console plan had day one releases but lacked online multiplayer).
This is not a “loophole”, but normal business. Game Pass is not the only service who keep the old contract for current subscribers. This way people think twice if they cancel, because they would “loose” the cheaper price and day one releases and so on, its the same contract as before, which is a huge difference to the new.
At this point, with all the charts and videos dedicated trying to explain what Game Pass is and deals exist, I really think a DLC approach would have been better. Like with pizza, you would have your Game Pass + any number of DLCs to enable additional features. So everyone could have their own Game Pass setup and pay only what they are interested into. In example:
<span style="color:#323232;">$10 Game Pass Base
</span><span style="color:#323232;">+ $8 Day One First Party
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> (exclusives for a month, and added to Base after a year)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">+ $8 Premium Streaming
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> (shortest wait times, highest quality)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">+ $5 Additional Library
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> (EA Play & Ubisoft+ Classics)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">+ $4 Loyalty Benefits
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> (Rewards program, game specific benefits, icons, walllpapers, soundtracks, stickers etc)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Note: Online Console Play is always included.
</span>
I just made up price numbers, so don’t quote me on that as being bad or so. At least from marketing standpoint it would be easier to market, and nobody pays extra for stuff they won’t use such as some vbucks for free to play games.
Friday’s reports that Electronic Arts planned to go private were publicly confirmed Monday morning. Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners will join together to pay an estimated $55 billion for the video game mega-publisher in a deal being described as the “largest...
Depends on the private holder. Look in example to Valve (Steam), who are a private company and do well and good for themselves, the gaming industry and their fans (relative speaking for the most part).
But a super rich Saudi Arabia people and Kushner, Affinity Partners’ CEO and the son-in-law of President Trump connection, I don’t know man. BTW its not just one owner, as I understand. The difference to stockholders is, that a few people who don’t understand videogames have direct power and control over the company, while stockholders are many little.
It’s reported that the Google Play store entry of Eden emulator (a Switch emulator) is no longer available. We don’t know the reason, but my educated guess is that Nintendo might have striked. I recommend to download current official clean builds and source code for backup, just in case you want to use it later....
If you don’t get it from the original developers before the closure, then there is always a little bit of risk getting malware filled builds. So I would be highly cautious. That’s why you should build either from source, or archive before its shut down. If you search the web, there are many sources, sites and users offering the executable for either Windows or other operating systems. I personally wouldn’t download and execute random executables like that.
That’s the reason why I don’t give links, because I can’t guarantee its free from malware. Really, the best is you build from source. I know most people don’t do that, but this is the best.
search for “yuzu” on archive.org should give lot of interesting results. There are source codes and latest builds available. I can’t be sure if even the sources are not tempered with. Use at own risk.
I think the latest Yuzu version from the original developers is “1733”. I have the version “1731” (2024-03-01) only 2 days before the shutdown. I had archived everything that day when reading about NOntendo going after Yuzu.
That’s interesting! I didn’t know Yuzu was still available on Flathub (don’t remember to have checked it). There is also Ryujinx (the other big Switch emulator that was available alongside Yuzu) still available on Flathub. Its less performant and Tears of the Kingdom had early after 7 hours or so a game breaking bug hindering progress, that made me to play on Yuzu. Then I stayed on Yuzu. But I have it installed too, just in case. :-)
Yuzu works great, but I did not test with newest games. You also need Firmware and prod keys (I’m not sure if the keys are actually needed in Yuzu). Some games could require a minimum Firmware version. I’m not sure if its allowed to post links here, so I’m leaving it to you for home exercise.
I was just looking in the web to learn more about Devon Pritchard (the woman who becomes America’s next president as Nintendo of America) and found following line in another blog post article: economictimes.indiatimes.com/…/124139537.cms
She holds a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Gonzaga University School of Law (1998–2001)
You have to “work” hard to get the privilege to give them money and buy something, that is made rare. People will buy, because they think they “earned” the right to, and that they get something others don’t have. Not the biggest fan of something like that.
The song is mine. I wrote it with June, I sing it, I created the melody, I recorded my vocals in my studio, and they do not own it.
That’s not enough to “own” a peace of copyrighted material or work. This depends on the license and contract. Note, I am not arguing against his opinion that this work is his own, I just argue that the given reasoning can be not enough (depending on the situation). He claims to be the owner and to get paid, but WE as the reader who don’t have all details don’t know if that is really his right (to get the money). From the outside it looks like another victim of capitalism. But really, without all the details, I would not automatically empathize based on claims. I wish him good luck, if there are no bad intentions behind it.
I personally don’t think that “Copyright” itself is bad idea. In example without Copyright, we could not have Open Source rights like the GPL. However I acknowledge that there are negative effects of the Copyright system and companies and lot of people misuse it to make money or to hurt.
The problem with such a world is, that innovations would be hurt, because there is less incentive to be the next incredible invention. Either to make money or to get fame. It’s never a simple solution, there are always caveats and side-effects.
So does humans with copyright and capitalism, even more so, with more competition and incentive to make money or get fame. Let’s say without Copyright 10 people do art for fun, take ages and quality does not matter. Its all fun yes, maybe 1 of them is talented. Add Copyright and incentive to earn money, suddenly you have 100 competing for money, try to make the best it can and earn it.
Copyright is not all about making money either. Without it, someone could “steal” your open programming code and then do modifications and sell it for anyone who desperately needs it. In example to hospitals. And because there is no rights and licenses to “own”, the GPL can’t be in effect and protect the Open Source of it.
But only if are a fan of Borderlands 2, right? For any other casual player without attachment to the series, the third entry doesn’t seem to bad. I have yet to play. This is just what I get from reading opinions. Is this correct?
For someone who think gameplay is king, I would probably enjoy this game more than 2? Not saying that characters, story, writing, music, graphics and so on are not important; far from.
Hmm, I see. Like any extreme, it can outweigh and be the major pain point (or high point, whatever). Action games with too much cinematic and tutorial can also destroy the fun of an otherwise good game. And if the cinematic and constant chatting and characters are annoying, yeah, that’s a pass for me as well.
I’ve purchased the game for something like 2,99 or so in Steam and thought will play it someday. I’ll probably install and test it just because I have it, but after reading comments like yours, I do not think to finish it. Not all games you start needs to be finished.
BTW are those mods integrated into Steam? If so, I’ll have it in mind.
That’s the price of a little micro transaction in some other games. It will be worth, but I also feel kind of bad for the devs (or publisher). After so much time and work to produce (hopefully) a high quality game and then this cheap. Not complaining, but wondering if a higher price wouldn’t be too bad. I think 29,99 or 24,99 (the price of Factorio Edit: oh wait, I forgot Factorio costs 32 Euros here in Germany) would be totally acceptable in a time like this where AAA games come out at 79,99.
My point is less about me giving more money (I’m not that crazy about giving more money). My point was more about being curious about the reasons and decision of going this low. It’s more of a curiosity how much they could ask, before its too high. They don’t need spend money on advertisement, that’s for sure. Maybe this whole waiting saga is part of their “self advertising strategy” (just made up this terminology).
Not adding a nonbinary does not make him a transphobe. Not every game, movie or story need a trans sexual character. It’s fair to ask for an addition in a “roleplaying” game (which it is here to be fair), but its not fair to call someone transphobe if he or she does not do it.
Why not a separate update cross reference update between both games? I can imagine something Haunted Chocolatier related content (not the entire game) to be added into Stardew Valley that acts as a sort of “advertisement”, to get people familiar with the new IP. Or not. Just an idea.
Also what do you mean as “runs better”? As in “better performance” or “better compatibility”? I’ll give you one answer for each question, but off course its not the only one. Other cases may have another explanation why the Proton version runs better. This is a complicated topic which cannot have a generalized answer for all games.
For performance: Developers focus on the Windows version and may not be very talented at Linux development or environments. So optimizing the Windows build by the devs will obviously make that version better. Plus optimizations and some trickery from Valve (and off course others) in Proton might also help, that is not affecting the Linux native build.
For compatibility: Proton does a better job at providing an environment that is the same each time the game is installed. Linux native changes too much and too often and differs a lot per distribution. At least that is what I think, not sure if that is even correct.
I just hope they don’t get burned out and there is no crunch. The only other company that did so much in short time I can think of is Insomniac Games. It’s actually how it was used to be with how frequent we got games from single studios. But since they are so big and expensive nowadays, it seems a bit unreal for how fast some companies are able to pump out so many high quality games in relatively short time.
One should not make the mistake to just judge a single photograph, for a role in a film. Its also important how they move and talk, and what the perception of the person based on existing films is. I’m not in the position to judge about any of these castings or your suggestion, just wanted bring in this point into the discussion.
I think this question also applies to PC. Why? Because we are limited too. I try to reach 120 fps and consider it performance mode when dialing back quality settings, and enabling upscaling to reach that. If not, 90 fps is also pretty good. For certain games, 60 fps feels like what you describe of 30, but that does not apply to all games. There are single player rpgs played with a gamepad, that I would even consider playing at 30 fps if there is no other option. The problem is, games are not designed to be played with that low fps, as the input latency increases.
I’ll compare this to the Switch, playing Zelda (emulated with Yuzu). Breath of the Wild on original Switch is designed to be played at 30 fps. Playing it on my PC like that felt like a slideshow, but one can get used to it. If I didn’t had the 60 fps patch, it would still be fine at 30. The next game in the series, Tiers of the Kingdom, was not stable at 60, so I was “forced” to play at 30. And after some time playing it felt pretty good and not upsetting like in the first few minutes.
What I mean by that is, performance mode if possible, I would sacrifice quality. But not too much, because at some point the image looks really bad.
That’s not entirely true. Because even if you buy a strong PC, you have to make choices, depending on the game. It’s just the fps and settings we are talking about are higher floor. In example on PC people can enable RayTracing, which tanks the fps a lot. Do you go for 120 fps or 60 or maybe lower fps with higher fidelity and RayTracing in example.
So the question to answer is still the same, its just on PC we have a bit more individual choices to make.
Edit (added): Most people don’t have the strongest PC anyway. Look at the Steam hardware survery, most have common graphics cards like the 4060 in example. Or look at handheld PCs and laptops, with fixed hardware. And as said, even in high end with lots of money people need to make cuts in fidelity or performance; just on a higher level in that case. So your question applies to PC as well.
This is how you challenge actual pirates and grow your real enemy, while you punish innocent civilians. Pirates will pirate, regardless of what Nintendo says, wants or does. The real losers are loyal customers who pay lot of money.
This game will always held a special place in my heart (together with Dune 2 and its remake on the PSX). I played the original Playstation game back then in the 90s. Congratz on everyone worked on this project to make this happen. I am not the biggest fan of web browser games, but man, this one already won my heart.
Just tried it under Firefox and it worked perfectly fine (only couple of minutes tried). I didn’t even had to add exceptions to my uMatrix blocker. Very nice!
I like listening to oldschool videogame music. Recently I listened to some music of games I never played and one song in particular blew my mind. Its wonderful and since it lives rent free in my head, coming back to it over and over again. I’m loving it....
In the Digital Foundry talks they talked about it. And it makes sense. The Pro was rumored to come out in 2020 or later with tech around that time. But as 2020 was a big year for Switch 1, Nintendo might have changed their direction. Switch 2 has tech that could be from that time and it would make sense, as it is similar to what a Switch Pro would actually be.
Agree with you as well. Anything that enhances or adds new functionality wouldn’t be part of a pro upgrade of the same. I feel like Nintendo tried desperately on the Switch 2 to bring new features, that could have been developed and thought off after they scrapped the Pro idea. So they came up with some software features like video streaming and an upgraded controller with mouse support.
I have yet to play, only did the tutorial for quick testing. So I don’t speak from personal experience, but from what I read so far.
Its more or less like the Splitgate 1. But they have a new game engine to better support and work on it (that’s why its a new entry in series, instead an update). Some people say they don’t like the hero abilities they added into. I don’t know to what extend this is and how game dependent these are. But one huge plus point to me is a map creator for the community. One of the biggest issues I had in game 1 was that not enough content and maps were available.
On the negative side is, that there is a Battle Pass. At least for me this is negative, but the game is Free to Play. I assume everyone who liked the first game will like this one too, but can’t be sure right now. They also seem to have too many players for their servers.

You mean an L-take? I’m not sure why. SteamOS is a gaming oriented os, with specific user interface and update cycles and features towards that. I think its the right call by Valve to put this note that this is not a general purpose desktop os meant to replace it. I know about the desktop mode (have Steam Deck myself).
The point is, the goal and usage is not meant and to be considered a full replacement for a desktop. People can decide themselves to do it anyway, its just not the goal. So totally not an L take here. Unless I misunderstood your point.
The update is that you can officially download and install SteamOS on other devices.
Does this mean I can install SteamOS on any device? We expect most SteamOS users to get SteamOS preinstalled on a Steam Deck or device that incorporates SteamOS. The only devices officially supported on SteamOS right now are Steam Deck and Legion Go S.
We are working on broadening support, and with the recent updates to Steam and SteamOS, compatibility with other AMD powered PC handhelds has been improved. If you are interested in trying out SteamOS on your device and providing feedback, you can use the SteamOS Recovery Image and follow the instructions here.
It just says only Steam Deck and Legion Go S are officially supported. But you can install it on other devices too (people did already).
